As a gay indian guy in 30s no matter which sauna I go I am treated very differently in not so positive way because of my skin tone and stereotypes.. white skin or latinos are always considered attractive always the media needs more indian/men of color gay role models.. 🤷♂️🙄

If Latinos are considered attractive, the skin colour cannot be the reason. I admit, I am mostly into Caucasian guys, but there are Indian or black guys, I also find attractive. One's mind is shaped by what you grow up with.
You’re not entitled to sex with someone solely based on the color of your skin. Your arguments bogus. Perhaps there are some who don’t want to be intimate with you based on your skin color but I suspect those people are far and few in between. Has it occurred to you that maybe you just aren’t attractive to them?

Hi Rob - as an older Irish gay man in the U.K. (Manchester) 23 years, I find this discussion about German gay saunas very interesting, as I’ve not been to a gay sauna in many years, so I’m wondering what has changed, especially in the post-Covid era - I had lived in Dublin for 3 years before 2002 and I recall that there was a “sauna war” going on in Dublin, which I believe has been detailed in the Irish Queer Archives website - the final result of this was that only one Dublin gay sauna was left and I’m aware that there is at least one gay sauna in Cork City (aside from other Irish cities like Limerick and Galway) - there are two gay saunas here in Greater Manchester that I’m aware of, but as is the case with many saunas, they don’t update their websites as often as they should
Michael im originaly from manchester but have live in Bristol for 18 yrs ....basment is still open BUT the one attached to Clone zone has been closed for a while In fact basment is the only one in the greater manchester apart from heat in Stockport .......its the same here in Bristol we had 2 saunas (one didnt last long) BUT the one that had been ther for yrs on old market changed hands so many times ( was a reg visitor if i had a weekend off work after a night out) and then covid hit and it went mixed from what i know then closed down so we dont even have a gay sauna here anymore sadly!
Hey @michaeljohndennis2231, I can't really say what's changed, as I actually went to a gay sauna for the first time just a year ago, so only after COVID. The Boiler is very clean, and from what I've heard, it always has been. Many years ago, there were a lot more gay saunas in Berlin, like 4-5. I know of at least 2 others from hearsay, but they all closed one after another. I don't know why. Now, only the Boiler Sauna is left, and it's very popular.

@@insiderob two clesed bc of the owners didn't invest in renewing the interior, one closed due to a fire killing some people. they violated several fire and building policies. when the boiler opened, they set a higher standards regarding every aspect of a gay sauna (drugs, prostitution, hygiene, etc.) in berlin. every other sauna was now compered to the boiler and they all lost profoundly.
@@insiderob Apollo burned down, because someone threw a cigarette into a trash bin. People died.
This is my favourite Sauna, I love Berlin's der Boiler. It's so clean, it's like a spa, and always had the best fun there. It's big too, an area to play, a coffee shop to replenish your energy, an outside deck, world class and modern x

Great find. I'm in the UK. We have some pretty decent Saunas here and I've been to the Sauna in Amsterdam and Torremolinos. Always interesting to hear about experiences elsewhere and your "review" was really interesting! I've not visited Germany yet.

No I would not be comfortable with women there. I love the energy and comradery of male only environment. We have very few spaces like that left. Men’s saunas are for men!

About the towels. If you enter the steamroom and leave your towel on a rack outside, esp. at the back entrance, be prepared that someone took your nice dry towel and you have to take any of the others.I wish boiler had towel lockers in the basement.
Oh yeah! That's a big "problem"! BUT: most of the time when you go with a sad face to the Towel distribution center, you get a new one for free. ^^

I once brought my own towel - and one guy was about to take it as if it was the most normal thing in the world!

There is a place and time for inclusivity. It is OK to have a sauna for men be a sauna JUST for men. If someone wants, they could open up a sauna for Trans people and one for Lesbians

I like Babylon in Cologne the most too.
The outside/center pool is really nice in summer.
And it has a nicer feel to me than phoenix in cologne.
Phoenix has louder music and whenever there is a new sauna infusion every hour or so, they play a weird bavarian music which can kinda kill the mood if you are doing certain activities.
That being said, it helps a lot with tracking time if you don't have a watch with you.
Overall big prefer for the Babylon.
Can't really talk about the darker areas though since i don't really do those.

You should go to the sauna in Oldenburg. It's a different experience compared to the big cities, but it's actually very good. They have events regularly, then it's very busy.

try out the Deutsche Eiche in Munich, it's a cool place. As for Cologne, I like the Badehaus/Babylon because of the outside pool area, which has a great relaxed atmosphere when the sun is shining and all of the guys are lounging around. The Phoenix is also nice, but their outside area is rather small, mainly for cooling off after the sauna. Inside, both of them have a bar & lounge area, jacuzzi, steam room, dark areas, etc. I've been to Berlin a lot, but never in the Boiler, guess I should try it some day ;-)

Please no women in gay saunas! Re towels, saunas in the US and Canada will usually exchange your wet towel for a fresh one if you ask. The sauna in Orlando will give you one free exchange and then charge $1 for any further exchanges when they are busy (and they make an announcement before they start doing this); when they aren't super busy, they'll just exchange your towel without this limit. Obviously, guys should be reasonable as well in terms of how many towels they go through. As someone who is used to this system, I would find it annoying to have to pay for a towel exchange, especially considering that towels are bound to get wet at a sauna. To me, this is akin to a restaurant giving you one serviette or napkin, and wanting to charge you if you need more.

@@insiderob On the flip side, US and Canadian saunas typically rent you a locker or a room, so if you want to have a room, you have to pay more, which doesn't appear to be the case in Germany or elsewhere in continental Europe, so I guess German saunas have to make their money somehow. Here in the US most gay bathhouses and saunas have fallen prey to gentrification. There used to be two in my city (New Orleans) and at least one in most major metros but now the only ones I can think of that are still open are in Berkeley California (Steamworks), Cleveland Ohio (Club Body Center), and Detroit Michigan (can't remember the name).

Heyhey! Thanks for your feedback! You can bring your own slippers. In Party you have to be complete naked (in the Saunas) in other areas you can wear a towel or bathrobe swimming wear is mostly not welcome.
Financially, the Boiler is the biggest rip-off I know of! - Above all, it's a huge disgrace that you can only stay there for 6 hours with an entry ticket! I've never experienced such a rip-off in any gay sauna in Germany or Europe!

If I got to a gay Sauna, I only want to see male bodies. I am not attracted to female bodyparts and the look at a vagina is unpleasant for me. I respect everyone no matter what gender, sexual orientation, skin colour or religion a person has, as long as that person respects our social values.

I was always curious about cruising and saunas, but i never had to guts to do so because i was afraid that men would give me to much attention and try to do things to me that i didn't consent to. I'm 29 years old and i have a certain confidence in my looks. I don't think that i'm a bad catch. However, if i go to a place where men specifically go to get horny and have sex with each other and none of them notice me or want to engage with me while i'm basically naked infront of them, this would completely crush my confidence and self esteem. Especially if you consider that men tend to get less picky as soon as they are horny.
So nope, i'm just to afraid to either get to much attention or to little. Both isn't fun to experience. I will remain by my usual method and get laid through dates where its easier to tell if someone is interested or not and were you can make sure that nobody gets sexual with you that you don't want to.

I was never afraid, someone could do things without consent and it never happened. Of course there were some hands touching, but never further, if I didn't want to.
