Might it be safe to presume that what is commonly believed to be the first appearance of trombones in a symphony, the 4th movement of Beethoven's 5th, was actually originally scored for a platoon of bass trumpets? By the way, if you cook with valve oil, the aftertaste is no longer such an issue.
Very nice strong, bright and sharp sound! Quite different in comparison with trombones that are softer.
