    Great footage fella 👍 What a transformation, I remember going on the base for the very popular air shows held there in the mid and late 70’s. Back then it was just a sea of concrete.

    @TheSecretVault - You might want to do another fly over the old silos at Greenham Common as I think someone is filming there again.

    I used to pass by the protesters camp quite often in the early 80’s, it took the lady out of female when I noticed that they’d throw their used tampons at the fence.

    nice drone flying Matt but I don't agree that the protesters won, after all due to the USA and Russia signing a treaty in 1987 the missile's were always going to be removed, one thing intrigues me is why the camp stayed around till 2000, the missile's left in 1991 and the US left the base in 1992. 🤔🤔🤔

      "After the missiles were removed, the women stayed to ensure the land was handed back to the people."
      It wasn't given back to public until 1997 and "many protesters stayed on until the perimeter fences of the old base were taken down" which wasn't until 2000.

      I agree with you, Matt. If the same sort of protests were happening back then in the USSR at that time I doubt it would have worried the Soviets too much.

    Love the first track. What is it? I live in Peterborough (yay!) town hall has a regional control bunker and some tunnels I would love to get back into. Can't find anything on the net about it. Discovered some of it when I was an electrical engineer/comms apprentice 30 years ago.. not seen it since. I serviced the CCTV centre which has now been knocked down on top of a MultiStory parking block. The 'little room' on top had them rotating doors like in one of your vijayo's. I was tasked with installing a smoke detector that was a cam and mic. had to do the same at the police station where the Soham murders were investigated. the top Bobby didn't want to let me in. was shitting it!

    Lovely video. But an utter waste of a perfectly serviceable airfield that could have been used for commercial or private aviation!

      Now it's a park that no one can do anything with.

    True story, A guy who worked on top secret radar defence weaponry was involved in beaming radiation at the protesting women from the base for days on end, Many of the women got very sick and many later died with cancer. This is a fact. If you want to get hold of the classified document let me know and I will contact the person who I wont mention on here

    Any underground subterranean tunnels there ? Surely must be a large network ??

    • @weeblesdontwobble
      @weeblesdontwobble 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There was a vast network of bunkers, but they were destroyed. You can see some of the blast craters filled with water where they blasted the tunnels. In some respects it's good that it's been given back to nature, but from a history point of view it's a shame that such an historic site has been lost to historians.

    The closure of the base had nothing to do with the protesters, due to the signing of the INF Treaty and the end of the Cold War the Ground Launched Cruise Missiles became banned under the treaty and the base became surplus to requirements. Quite how that has anything to do with the protesters is a riddle to me. The USAF still occupy the Ground Launched Cruise Missile (GLCM) site at RAF Molesworth for now and due to the USA pulling out of the INF Treaty, this site could easily become active again with government approval.

      The bunkers you can see from about 5:12 onwards were used in Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens. Great drone footage btw.
