I do remember this episode. My heart broke as he realized what his parents did to him. To save one child they destroyed the other. He was never going to get over what happened, now he probably would never get over the fact that his parents were the main reason. Yeah, they deserve jail time.

What about the other child? Can u imagine the horror knowing that your parents to save you, they sold your sibling to a predator? that would force them to live with the fact that they are responsible for their suffering as well, that would utterly destroy them. Not speaking from experience but common sense; if you haven't experienced something yourself, something traumatic, you can't fully understand what it means unless perhaps it is fully explained to you and even then, in extreme detail.

No. There's a big difference between people who are bad, and good people who do bad things.
These parents.were not rotten people. They convinced themselves they were doing the right thing to save their baby. Sadly that kind of mental justification is something good people do all the time in various ways.
God I remember this episode, it was brutal. For anyone curious: the kid changes his testimony after discovering the date the check was signed to tell the truth about Monty.

Just before Jack McCoy asks the judge if he can resume his cross-examination of Sammy Morelos the following day, he sounds like he gets choked up when he says "but you were going to college" after Sammy says all the money went towards Davey. I think in that moment he was starting to get it, and his heart broke for the little boy that Sammy was when he got sold to Monty Bender

This reminds me of the Chicago Med Episode where parents have a second child just for the purpose of being an organ donor for their first child, literally harvesting the second one as much as possible

SVU had a similar case, it was even crazier in that one. The parents were so desperate to keep their child from testifying that they had an uncle smuggle the boy to Canada. Only silver lining was that the father was imprisoned technically in perpetually, as he was ordered imprisoned until he produced his son for testimony. The case was also derailed by one of those Munchausen moms who jumped on the bandwagon and thought she could get money, ultimately she was exposed for poisoning her daughter to make people think she had cancer.

Yes, thank you for confirming that was Lisa Lisa from the 80's group Cult Jam. On the thumbnail showing her face I said, that looks like Lisa Lisa & that's the reson why I watched this episode. Didn't know she acted as well. She lived in the mid fifties where I resided for a bit, cool!
And the actor portraying his father played Angel in the Dexter tv show. They were both so amazing in this.

Even if it was to save a child's life I could never sell my child or any other child it's just so wrong and disgusting.
What disgusts me the most about this is that the parents are the ones who are supposed to protect their children, no matter what! They deserve to be in jail for life.

I don't remember which episode exatcly, but you are right. Serena had a bleeding heart which led to Arthur Branch letting her go. I liked Serena in some aspects but she was no Alexandra Cabot or Casey Novak. those 2 were bosses!

This is bad ……the minute I start watching these clips - I’m hooked for ages ! On another and more serious note ……how can any parent “sell” a child to a pervert even if his/her sibling is so poorly ? I’d sell myself if that’s what it would take but never , not my child. Some very disturbing parents here .

There should have been the following segment in this story.
People's exhibit ###: Bank record indicating how much money the family received.
People's exhibit ###: Medical expense record for treating your brother.
After deducting the medical expenses, that leaves "so much money", and that's an estimate. Why aren't you getting it? Your father's getting it. Your parents are getting it. But you're in college, and you're paying to live in the dorms. If you wanted to go for scholarships, okay. But still, the money, or rather what's left of it, is meant for you, not them. So why aren't you using it?
I haven't seen the episode, but I'm sensing some favoritism from the "parents". Let one child suffer to let the other one live.
It wasn't so much that as they were desperate, their younger son would die without surgeries, and they had no money for them; they were offered a million dollars for the eldest son...and they took it. Were they wrong? OMG, of course they were.

This is the one episode of Law & Order that stayed with me for a long time afterwards.
Before how the parents react when the truth is revealed for them actually setting him up for abuse. There's two clues that suggest they never really cared about him, both being during the court case, first with Monty's ex-associate saying that the mother never really looked unhappy and was actually having a good time away from Sam on the little vacation, then when she says Monty seemed trustworthy despite wanting to be alone with her son. And then you place with how they said he was molested only one time as if it was never a big deal, you got the worst parents ever featured on television.
I love Law and Order, I’m a huge fan. Please post the Law and Order from Season 8 episode : Divorce when The Lawyers got into a debate and the Male lawyer had the manipulative female set up to confessing to killing that Counselor who involved in the divorce of a couple. Then in Court the Victim’s Husband yelled at the female lawyer on how could she be sorry just to win a divorce case. That was epic.

I had this happen to me but without money involved. My mother liked my sister better, so I was left with grandpa, who had sexually assaulted her. Between the ages of 3-6, I was left to placate him while grandma, my sister and mother would go shopping.

What makes me so sad is he actually forgave his parents when he thought they took the money after what happened. He understood they needed they needed it for his little brother and he gave up ever getting justice for his little brother’s life.
