I've been wearing these gaiters for years, and other than the flexible/lightweight material, the design needs a lot of work. It's a shame that considering how expensive these are, they need modified. As you mentioned, the back rides up, and even using cordage on the grommets doesn't prevent the back form riding up. The grommets are all on the front of the gaiter, so they are only minimally effective at preventing the back from riding up. These things need a complete redesign including heavy duty metal zippers, a flap near the achilles area that would cover the back of the ankle better, and a built-in strap that runs under the foot to keep them in place.
I totally agree. I have a few different pairs and the Turtle Skins are the worst design. I wish I could have my OR crocodile gaiters made out of the snake proof material. Turtle Skin needs to step up their design.
I haven’t noticed them getting hot. I’m sure they add some heat compared to not wearing a gaiter at all but they’ve definitely got to be better than the thick heavy duty gaiters. They also block the wind so in the winter they are nice to wear to keep your legs a little warmer.
Great tip on the shock cord. I also need mine shortened. I’ll have to reach out to her. Appreciate you sharing this 👍🏻

Could they be worn under waders?
How much cadora nylon material did you need for the chaps?
Do they get pretty hot or are they better than the heavy snake gaiters and boots?
