I am just catching up on these video's thanks to a link from Matthias Wandel and I am now completely hooked. Many thanks for taking the time to post them in English as like most Englanders I am pig ignorant of our neighbours languages. Cheers.
I enjoyed this series of video a lot. So much information understandably shared. Amazing. It's just exceptional that you dared to replace in such an old building the beams in parts and all stayed together. Clap-clap!
Did you ever find out why nails were occasionally used in seemingly random joints in that time period? My understanding is that nails were pretty labor-intensive to manufacture back then, so I'm guessing they'd be pretty expensive. Do you think maybe the nails were used in what the builders considered to be critical joints?
The work this man is doing inspires me so much that I want to work with wood in my next incarnation or better yet if someone would have the patient to teach the old dog a new trick!
My parents own a house that has a timber frame. Supposedly it’s from the late 17th century. But the outer walls have been replaced by brick. And a lot of the diagonal support beams have been taken away. Also the roof has had an awful ‘restoration’ job. It’s a massacre. I’m a little bit afraid tho that my parents don’t care enough about the authenticity of the farmhouse. They are mainly thinking about how to reduce the gas bill... Rather than to invest in restoring old type of joints in the frame (especially the roof).
I always enjoy these very well made videos.

Thank you for taking the extra time to make English language copies of these videos.
Your videos are great. European timber framing in general is a true niche on TH-cam!
Great innovative craftsmanship! Young Raphael is very good! An aspiring architect!
