  • We took a trip northward. This short, two day trip was full of activity and beauty! The northern woods of Maine is a thought provoking place! It is the outer banks of civilization in the state of Maine. It is a place of woodsman, lumberjack types, hunters, and nature lovers! These woods are full of logging roads, trails and camps! And for two days I was privileged to be there! Enjoy!

I miss the Maine woods. My family hunted out of Kakadjo for 25 years beginning in 1948, we moved to Ripogenus in 1973 when my generation was of age. Thanks, some great sunset stills. There was only a single grocery store in Greenville, nothing at all until you reached Pray's at Ripogenus, where you were still 38 miles from a telephone and Millinocket. Bear; moose, dear, varying hare, otter, spruce and ruffed grouse, Canada jays, and boomers.............the small red squirrels that let everyone know you are there. If the water was flowing, it was safe to drink.

Was in Greenville 6 years ago. My wife and I stayed and did some Mt biking. Was there 3 days. And we also visited the outfitters as well. Nice town and nice place to visit during the summer. Should also add, several locals told us of a wealthy person who moved to the town. He came in quietly, bought a big property just outside town. And he started to buy up more property by his home, why? He told the locals he did not want an obstructed view from his home to the Lake. Yes, they were mad.

We've tried to keep it a secret. Since the pandemic, everyone with money in their banks has bought a second or third home here at 40% the markup, leaving the real estate market bad for Mainers and losing our culture fast with the current governor we have. Please don't move here, we just watched our population double.

If you want to see moose in Maine there is a section between Monson and Greenville called Shirley Heights, in May the moose are seen in the water there frequently. Good for photography as they frolic in the water after the long winter and feast in the bogs. It's a lovely area .

Moved up here, 3 yrs ago, we're north of where you are, Island Falls.
Came up to escape the rat race in Boston, I'm retired.
Bought a lovely house on 1 acre next to hundreds of miles of thick northwoods.
A $300K house in Boston costs $50K here and you don't get the land in Boston, just a tiny lot.
This is the place to retire, Gods country, I'm among the Amish folk, great people.
Its a mild winter this year, last year was harsher.
Only 12 inches of snow on the ground right now.
Summer is lovely, warm dry days, never humid, cool nights for sleeping.

Gerard Jones I loved your comment ❤️. My husband and I are seriously considering a move in 4 years to Bangor(close to Acadia). We are from the Midwest and although it’s a nice place, the summers are miserable and humid. And I love fall and winter and Maine has both in spades. It’s my dream to live in Maine but my husband, after two years of vacations there, has finally agreed. I never thought he’d go along with a move there. We love our home here in Nebraska. It’s comfortable, but Maine has my heart. Your home sounds beautiful and all that land?? It sounds lovely beyond words.
