It brought a tear to my eye hearing Josh say “keeping a promise that younger me made that older me followed thru” . Then you live with no regrets . Such an awesome trip
This whole series venturing to northern most city in the world has been so fascinating! This planet is so beautiful! I’ve never been to a place that looks like that! Amazing! I am living vicariously through your adventures!
Thank you for going here. It is now on my list. Was in Norway earlier this year but wish I would’ve known about this before then. Surely would have gone. Love living on the edge. Way to go
Just said to my husband: "we have to go to Svalbard!" Loved this quest and this video in particular. Thanks for bringing us along and for making me dream of traveling.
"The promise that younger me made that older me actually followed through on". Preach... That was me FINALLY going to Asia/South Korea in my 40s. I know exactly how you felt @20:02.
Hey Josh and Lisa. Hello from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Just wanted to let you know that your video inspired me to book my trip to Svalbard. I bought the tickets slightly over an hour ago. Still feeling mighty surreal and needing some time to let reality set in. But what Josh said about keeping a promise that a younger self made that the older self followed through - chef's kiss! Exactly what I felt but not having the words for. So, thank you.
I only discovered you guys yesterday while looking for Camino related videos. Love your videos, you seem a super nice couple and you look like you enjoy whats in front of you. All the best guys :)
YOU FINISHED IT! 🎉🎉🎉 We laughed really hard at Josh's smudged face. 😂 If only we could all fix our spouses with a little smudge of their face! 😂 😂 😂 (also, the dogs 😍😍)
Hi guys! When I saw the thumbnail for this video, I thought it was a pretty cool effect (i.e. the red/orange hue). It turns out, that was the effect from your tent! The scenery and wildlife was so beautiful. And your walk with the dogs looked like so much fun! Congrats on completing the quest.
We might have not discovered your channel without you commenting on ours. Thank you! We look forward to watching you two. Someday we hope to travel to Europe and explore. Until then we have you. Polar bears! How awesome is that. 😀
What a great experience. You're right, you could have just booked a few flights directly to the northern most city, but the whole adventure made it so much more worth it. If you have the time and the means, take the long way!
Stumbled upon your videos as I'm traveling to Iceland + Scandinavia next week (I live in Paris!) and wanted to watch something about Oslo... and then got too intrigued hearing about you quest and kept watching! Love the way you add voiceovers in the videos, your overall editing style - storytelling, similar to how I love to do it. Looking forward to seeing your new adventures to come!!
WOW!🤩 this was an awesome experience. It goes look like an awesome place to visit. So calm & serene. Thank you for sharing it with us. I’m glad to see you guys made it back.
I am happy to write that you must go back now. First of all, you did not visit Huset. You also need to visit the only nightclub in Svalbard, serving 2000 people, 2500 snowmobiles and 3000 polar bears during weekends. My suggestion: Late February or March (when some daylight is returning for a snowmobile excursion and a dog-sledging excursion (Tempelfjorden and the calving front of the Van Post ice stream is a winner on shooters with a big chance of seeing polar bears looking for resting seals on sea-ice). Also, the nights are pitch black for Aurora Borealis. And nightclub life. And one of the best wine cellars in all of Europe. Anyhow, kudos for your great journey here at the top of Europe both on- and offshore. And bonus kudos for choosing a tent for resting at Svalbard. I hope you managed to get back to the wedding in time-
Keeping food in tent will attract the bears. Good thing for the fence and hopefully the bears will not work out how to open the gate. What a stunning country.
yeah we found that super interesting too - they don't have enough refrigerator space inside the building, so they make everyone keep their food in their tents. it was absolutely beautiful!
I forgot to tell you that the last time somebody was killed by a polar bear it was in the camp site you slept. They put up the fence after the incident so I think what you did walking and biking to the city unarmed was dangerous.
So there are "...no plants..." on Svalbard.... What do you think the green stuff is covering the ground is all around you....like grass and flowers...??? I've worked on Svalbard so I've seen a few things up there....
You missed a lot. When I went to Svalbard last year we visited Pyramiden and Barentsburg that are Russian towns, one active and one being a ghost town since being abandoned in 1998. To go to these places was like time travel back to the Soviet Union and a much more special experience than Longyearbyen. Another interesting fact is that Svalbard is visa free so if your Schengen visa expires you can go to Svalbard instead of going home. Because of this the largest and third largest non-Norwegian communities in Longyearbyen are from Thailand and the Philippines. They have found their paradise in Longyearbyen with high salaries and a generally high living standard. Thais mostly work as cleaners and chamber maids as Filipinos work as waiters. There are around 115 Thais and 100 Filipinos in Longyearbyen and many of them have stayed for many years without going home. It is interesting how people from tropical countries thrive in such a cold place.
You guys are brave!!! Wasn't a guy killed at that campground by a polar bear about a year or two ago? Worth the risk, though. It's absolutely breathtaking!!!!

I am Norwegian but have not been to Svalbard yet. I have to do something about that! So beautiful, so beautiful! Outstanding video!
Thank you so much for watching!
Poler nights are hard work. the lightest it gets is like 8pm US summertime duskiness at around 11am and then it turns dark again.
What a fantastic experience! Life-changing!
Yes!!! Hard to describe what a place Longyearbyen is and hard to encapsulate what it felt like to be there :)
Just said to my husband: "we have to go to Svalbard!" Loved this quest and this video in particular. Thanks for bringing us along and for making me dream of traveling.

These are the great recommendations we need! Thank you!! We can’t wait to come back :)
I loved seeing the reindeer and whales!
So incredible!!!! ☺️
I love the 2am logic of getting out of the tent to check if there was a polar bear haha
Crazy, but I cried when you left Longyearbyen…. 😊
Us too! 🥲
I forgot to tell you that the last time somebody was killed by a polar bear it was in the camp site you slept. They put up the fence after the incident so I think what you did walking and biking to the city unarmed was dangerous.

Dog walking music was 10/10.

Svalbard is a tax-free zone. The prices are high, but skip the tax then much get cheaper than in mainland Norway.
You guys are brave!!! Wasn't a guy killed at that campground by a polar bear about a year or two ago? Worth the risk, though. It's absolutely breathtaking!!!!
By the way, when were you there exactly?
We were there at the end of the summer :)
Exhilarating...and not for me. However, I love traveling vicariously with you.
The threat of being eaten would have killed my enjoyment of the scenery.
80 dollars a night for that !!😥
Quite steep, but we thought it was a steal of a deal with all the camp gear and tent, especially compared to the $300/night hotels in town! :)
Please check the safety map of Longyearbyen and don’t do like them!
2023: Southern most city in the world? Chile and/or Argentina?
Ooo this would be so fun!
