So if all the assault modes float on destruction, this sort of means the armor goes away. However, in the case of Arcanite Magician, he just decides to put his robes back on upon destruction.

I know how that feels, completely unironically. I distinctly recall back during the zexal era I had a dream where I opened a booster pack, and there was a goddamn Link Monster in it. It even kinda looked like what eventually came out. Sadly I have yet to see a Link Monster that looks like a giant underwater combination of what looks like an oil tanker and Bugroth.

I TOTALLY agree with your feelings on Stardust Dragon at 19:55 ; That "Tattered Glory" & how despite being "traditionally ugly" with the ripped wings, long claws & narwhal horn, it represents good/togetherness. & It's awesome how that reflects Yusei trying to save everyone, despite being hated due to him being from satellite/his criminal mark. 110% agree. We love Stardust here.
To be honest. I like hyper psychics art work, both his normal and assault mode. The sleek white with gold aspects alongside its rather simple design of the first form is really easy to look at. And his assault mode, if you look closer, you can see what they were going for. The green armour fitting between the gaps of his original form. Plus the green Contrasting the white is rather pleasing to look at.
A while ago I experienced a kind of Mandela Effect, because I always thought that Assault Mode Activate had an exclamation mark in its name. Needless to say, it doesn't.
I always remembered it like that as well.

I remember reading an account from Kaz that he designed Stardust and RDA to be more humanoid because they were gonna be used by main characters in animation. He wanted them to be able to throw a punch, basically.

At best art student learn only color conbination and composition, the rest have to be figured out ourselves aka finding the inspiration.
When in doubt and you know your piece sucks massive shlong, make up an emotional story about how the inspiration came to you and as long as you followed the prompt you get an A… unless it’s in portraiture.
Whenever I watch these, I like to imagine you and Jimbles standing on a stage with a projector for all of the card art so the audience can see.

The Assault Mode of Doomkaiser makes me sad... the original is a rare example in the YGO! TCG for a really freakin' nice dragon design. Looks unique, unsettling, good color composition, at most _very mildly_ detail-overloaded... aaand then they made whatever the Assault Mode is supposed to be. Goddammit, Konami... xD

Colossal Fighter was pretty solid in the Synchro days. In a Warrior deck, you were pretty much always going to have a bunch of Warriors in the graveyard, so CF would usually drop with at least a 500-point boost, often as much as 1000 if you've already done some Synchro summoning. He also floats *himself* which was always pretty valuable back when most removal was destruction-based. His Assault Mode was mostly a lateral move, higher base attack and his effect switches to debuffing the opponent's monsters, making it harder to run him over, but his most valuable trait was probably that he sets your graveyard up a little more for when the original CF gets back on the field. Back in 2011, he served as a very useful beatstick for any Warrior Toolbox.

Hyper Psychic Blaster actually makes sense: The void spaces on the armor are filled up (with green armor, and the backpack "updates" (opens up from the bottom to make wings)

I like assault mode cards. Gimmicks can be really fun even if they’re not optimal. That’s the point of the game though, use the cards you like to use and have fun with it.

I love the detail of Arknight magician Assault mode is just Arknight magician without the cloak. Its and Colossal Fighter are the only Assault modes that feels like a natural form for the monster to take on. At least Stardust Assault mode doesn't show its tits

Actually my favorite version of any of the Red Dragon Archfiend Archetype is the Assault mode one. The design is really good. I prefer it over the original.
Since Scarlight counts as RDA on the field and can therefore become RDA/AM, imagine what that would actually look like... :3

Arcanite Magician feels like someone trying to do that robed disguise trope so he can do a rad anime reveal when he takes it off, but something went wrong and ended up with a form fitting cloak and it just looks goofy as shit.

Red Dragon Archfiend was the archetype for the ripped dragon art. The card artist most likely took inspiration from "The Great Red Dragon and the Woman in the Sun" a painting by William Blake.

These feel like the problems people had/have with Pokemon. Mega evolutions, possible exploits of alternate typings in the future. general form changes already had by certain pokemon.

So basically the switcher's Box-art critique but with yugioh cards... I LOVE THIS IDEA. You could argue the art department in yugioh is even more of fiesta of different ideas thrown together with the only saving grace usually being the quality of the art and the lack of instant frustration when it comes to talking about design mistakes compared to the actual game. I don't expect this to be done often but I'm definitely looking forward to it.
