Fun fact: Ryan was meant to be red before they changed to purple. The production notes for this red design reference Arthur saying if they went with the red design it would have to be slightly more light than Arthur’s red
Fun fact: Ryan shares the same whistle as Smudger the narrow gauge engine from the Mid Sodor Railway and Stepney in the US version of the fourth season episode, Thomas & Stepney. James also mistakenly used his whistle in the episode, Bowled Out.
Really amazing thoughts on the Bachman. Ryan. Ryan's actual first appearance was in Sodor's Legend of the lost treasure and then appeared in season 20 and then season 24 he was voice by Eddie Redmayne only in the movie while Steven Kynman voice him in the series until season 21 and then making cameos after that overall, really nice thoughts.
The N7s were designed around 1915 under the GNR, Gresley's A1s were the early 1920s, so yes Gordon would've technically been GNR and never part of the LNER, but my point still stands
Ryan was introduced in the Thomas and friends movie Sodor's legend of the lost treasure. He was brought to help on Thomas' branch line while Thomas helps with the construction of a new branch line. Which Ryan and Daisy will work on. With Ryan doing goods and Daisy doing passengers.
Ryan is one of my favorite CGI characters of Thomas and friends since he was introduced in the movie Legend of the Lost Treasure thanks Sam for sharing this amazing video showing how he looks and runs 👍❤️

Decent review here Sam, from the looks of it bachmann have done a good job on this model, in my view the bachmann Thomas range has always been better mainly because they look like the characters from the show.
Love the look of the new Bachmann Ryan, especially with the purple color he has! Also like how you ran Ryan along with showing the N2 locomotive which is his basis! 💜
First Thomas model to have brakeshoes, and the first HO gauge of the line to have separate handrails (Rheneas from the OO9 range is the only other engine).

When it comes to locomotives price plays a big part in deciding which type to buy. Sometimes you've just got to bit the bullet and buy the jolly thing, but not before shopping around. Ryan is and okay model but i agree with you on this one. Good video
Here is the full breakdown of Ryan’s character as presented in seasons 20 and 21 plus the 2015 movie “Sodor’s Legend of the Lost Treasure” Ryan is purchased from the Great Northern Railway roughly during the 1970s or 80s (wether he was withdrawn and saved from scrap is unknown or purchased from a branchline is unknown). He was sent to Sodor to run the goods services on the Harwick branchline, a coastal line, alongside Daisy the Diesel railcar and later Judy and Jerome the breakdown train. He arrives during the construction of the branch (SLotLT) and is sent to work on Thomas’ line temporarily as Thomas is sent to help construction on the branch in disgrace. After which, he’s sent to join the construction work and is permanently relocated as stated prior. Ryan is a cheerful and hard working engine who will help anyone who believes needs it. He can be gullible and naive and easy to manipulate, as both Daisy (season 20 episode: Ryan and Daisy) and Thomas (SLotLT) convince him to go against his better judgment for their own selfish gains. He very rarely gets angry and tries to see the best in everyone, even the lazy Daisy and jealous Thomas. He can be prone to panicking as well and is no where near being the hero type (being more close to a damsel in distress at times) however, like all would-be cowards, he has his moments to shine (especially against pirates).
Side note: Ryan was originally supposed to be an antagonistic type of character for his introductory movie (SLotLT) but this was changed when Eddie Redmayne was cast for the movie to play him. Also, by extension, Ryan works alongside Duck and Oliver who work the little western line and Skiff the rail sailboat who works as an amusement attraction for the quay.
Another great review Sam, I believe rather than Ryan being HO he is meant to be OO like the rest of the range but as he is a character introduced in the CGI era of the show the proportions and scaling of characters have been known to be fairly wibbly wobbly e.g. James is enormous compared to Thomas, Duck is quite wide and squat and so on. The packaging very much need a to go, but I imagine it's only that way still because some people are not that clever to tell a normal model from a Thomas model if they had the same/similar box, not a fan of how long those couplings are as I'm sure they were only made for Toby (since they screw in far back into the body for the cowcatcher) but they seem to put them on every new model. Hopefully the face flying off like that isn't a common thing because I can't imagine some kid getting a Ryan and instantly loosing the face.
This video is a fantastic legal litmus test in my fight with Google's busted AI related to the never ending issues with Made For Kids. I have videos so similar to this yet I get flagged as Made For Kids, lose the appeal and then threatened that I will be affected at channel level. My partner Google on this site has basically turned into my enemy. But seeing this video makes me feel strong my legal arguments will have weight.
Despite his few flaws, Ryan is one of the better Bachmann Thomas & Friends 00 Scale engines in the range. He's rather well detailed and would fit right with any other character on the layout for anyone's collection. Ryan actually debuted in Legend of the Lost Treasure, after Thomas caused a accident with the express coaches at Knapford Station, Ryan was sent to work on Ffarquhar and later helped with the new branch line, where Thomas was sent to work as punishment for his actions (albeit, causing another reckless crash) the blue tank engine was jealous into believing Ryan was Sir Topham Hatt's new favourite engine, until after he purposefully by fault made him take on bad coal, that sent the crates of dynamite on fire. The Fat Controller angrily scolded Thomas for causing trouble for the third time, until that very next evening, Thomas made amends and lets go of his jealousy of Ryan, as the latter tells the truth to The Fat Controller about how his actions wronged him. (Thomas having a grudge on the newbie gets old very quick after 2007) Anyway, it's good to have Ryan at last, and he'll appreciate working on the Harwick branch with Daisy.
This packaging box needs to recieve a design change. At least give it a closed in box like the 009 Skarloey Railway stock and N Scale engines and rolling stock.
You should check out bachmann standard ho sets like the rail chief. Also Bachmann purposely raise the price so that the dealers like train-world price looks like a great deal, that’s why know one buys directly from Bachmann.

Great work as always Sam I'm still waiting for a Big Boy review 😁 I recommend saving up for a Broadway Limited Big Boy. I've had one for a few years now and I love the thing an absolute beast Keep up the great work
The pricing on the OO Bachmann Thomas seems very high compared to their G scale Thomas locos. The G Scale ones are not cheap but they're much better value than all other G scale, whereas the OO Thomas seems much more expensive than the typical OO non-Thomas loco. With the G scale you get some seriously tough locos suitable for rough and tumble play indoors and out. There are also basically no UK outline G scale locos on the market which makes the Thomas locos especially appealing - lots of people mod them to look more like actual UK locos.
The price of the HO/OO models is insane. Like even the smaller tank engines like Percy, Thomas, Bill, and Ben are all over $100. It would be slightly more understandable if they were complex models, but they really aren’t.
Man, is there any way of you getting in contact with Bachmann regarding all those production problems. Like how on earth the quality inspection approved a Ryan with a face that comes off by just touching.I mean you paid more than 100 bucks for that. I would be furious
Well I'd say the face probably worked free during transit, and the decoration was presumably damaged during transit too. So it's probably just poor/negligent packaging design rather than a production quality problem. Thanks for watching - Sam :)

I felt like a kid again when I found out the series finally had a Character with my name. I also watched and loved the movie he premiered in.

He actually debuted in the movie Sodor’s Legend of the Lost Treasure. He was sent to work on Thomas’ branch line after Thomas got into trouble by being naughty and derailing Gordon’s express coaches.
I was really excited for Ryan but after seeing the mechanism it's pretty insulting to customers for the most expensive and newly tooled model of the Thomas range to have a Bachmann mechanism from 10/15 years ago, it's really off-putting. Then there's the motor and oh god, I can't believe my eyes. I got two locomotives with a type 7 motor, and I barely put any wagons behind them (Hornby Jinty and Pannier Tank). I like them a lot, but I don't wanna see em die but the fact that this 200$ locomotive I can't believe it. The decoration however looks quite smart I must admit, but then again the poor packaging ruins it. Idk, for the price, it's a total ripoff I'm afraid. Still, it's not the worst deal, it looks quite beautiful. Great review as usual, Sam 👍👍
Sam I want to ask since your Bachmann Ryan had a chip on the -N- on the tank are you going to return it to get a new one that doesn't have that chip on the -N- on the side of the tank or are you just going to get a refund on the model???????????
Surreal to finally see a full review on this model. I don't remember when exactly Bachmann announced this but it's definitely been more then a year, honestly feels like we've been waiting 4 years for this thing along with Bachmann Daisy.
Great video, shame about the mechanism. Those motors arent great! A friend if mine donated a large collection of 0-16.5 gauge rolling stock a little while ago, some if which used the Hornby Jinty chassis with that motor, which apparently has been replaced 3 times!
Ahh interesting - yes the Jinties do indeed use it, and they do fail... particularly the ones made recently in my experience!! Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I am surprised they used a cheap slot car motor in this $200 engine! Donald and Douglas and the Chuggington locomotives are the only other Bachmann HO models I could find that use that same motor, although some older N scale models use that motor too. I also noticed Ryan slow down on the s-bend without any load at the beginning of the video
I had just received my Bachmann Ryan model earlier this week, and I had the same issue with his face being loose lol However, the paintwork I thankfully didn't have to worry about the "N" being rubbed off. Interestingly enough, he reuses Bachmann Oliver's wheels as seen in the lack of the counterweights, which I don't know why they chose to reuse that part of Oliver...
Technically, Gordon and Ryan are cousins! Built in the same place by the same man. However, they are NOT brothers. For a locomotive to be a brother in Thomas & Friends, you must be the same class.
Ryan actually first debut in the franchise in the 2016 movie Sodor's Legend of the Lost Treasure. But he really didn't do anything and was more of a plot device. Saying he appeared in Season 20 isn't wrong as his personality really got flushed out in that season, which takes place right after Sodor's Legend of the Lost Treasure. Great work as always, keep it up Sam!
I do wish they release Thomas & Friends Characters with Model update tbh. With more details and a lot more Prop accurate. Maybe they can release O Gauge Thomas & Friends Replica Line.
Terrible shame about the N with the packaging! Otherwise Ryan does look pretty great, like he's been practically ripped right off the screen! Bachmann are really in their A-game with these newest engines, cant' wait to see how they tackle Rebecca
Yeah bit of a shame with this one, it was hyped up to be the perfect Thomas model but its failed miserably in my opinion. I'm not quite getting the intended market. I thought it was for Thomas and Friends fans/collectors which is why i thought its going to basically be a N2 in Ryan's livery and have a great mechanism because surely bachmann knew enthusiasts wouldn't allow a mechanism like that. But then on the other hand if its for kids its too expensive and lets face its they're going to couple ryan up too every piece of rolling stock they have and set it on full speed, which isn't goinb to be any good for the motor. I thought a motor that would withstand more punishment would be better. 🤔🤔
Wow, didn’t realize Ryan had finally been released! Glad to have found out about it through this channel. I want to say I appreciate that you don’t hold back from your criticisms despite this being a Thomas and Friends product - I’m sure it’d be more fun for all of us if there were no issues and everything about the model was fantastic but I much prefer to hear the honest thoughts from someone as knowledgeable in model trains as yourself.
Sometimes my neighbor’s kids like to come over and watch me run our layout with my son, and I was thinking of adding Ryan to our fleet for them to watch, but I’m not paying $200.
YYYEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS HES FINALY CAME OUT YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Bachmann Ryan isn't smaller than the n2 because he is in OO scale (the bachman thomas range being in true OO scale is a whole different topic) But the reason bachmann Ryan is smaller than the actual n2 is because Bachman uses renders from the Thomas and Friends show. In the show Ryan's model is also smaller than an actual n2. Same can be said for Olivers render. This is the reason why Bachman Ryan is also a 'scaled' down n2. We can expect that when Rebecca will come out, that she will have smaller running wheels and proportions than an actual bullied pasific.
Ryan is definitely a new peak for bachmann in terms of looks. I’m very interested to see Rebecca when she finally comes out.
Please just reuse the Gordon chassis. We can't get an even worse mechanism. Nobody wants that.
Why do you want rebbeca you monster

Ahh interesting - yes the Jinties do indeed use it, and they do fail... particularly the ones made recently in my experience!!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Slight correction Ryan appeared first in Sodor’s Legend of the Lost Treasure, but if we’re talking seasons only that is correct
I was looking forward to this one today, and what do y’a know, a review today
Amazing review, maybe you can make a story about ryan.
Thanks Justin - that could be great fun! :D
Ryan first appeared in the 2015 movie, Sodor's Legend Of The Lost Treasure
Great job Sam!
I had just received my Bachmann Ryan model earlier this week, and I had the same issue with his face being loose lol
However, the paintwork I thankfully didn't have to worry about the "N" being rubbed off.
Good, objective review Sam
I'm not too keen on Ryan, but....
Thomas, we love you.
Ryan was first in sodor’s legend of the lost tresuer
Ooh fascinating - thanks for sharing! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
@@SamsTrains hi im a Big fan
You’ll also find that the Bachmann models of Ryan and Oliver use the same driving wheels
I think Sam should try out one of the Broadway Limited Imports Paragon series engines, perhaps the PRR E6 maybe? They cost quite the pretty penny tho
Oooooo ryan looks goooood
He really does!! :D
"It's been a little while since Bachmann last released a new Thomas and Friends character"
Confusion and delay!
Ryan works with Daisy on the Harwick Branchline
Ryan actually first debut in the franchise in the 2016 movie Sodor's Legend of the Lost Treasure. But he really didn't do anything and was more of a plot device. Saying he appeared in Season 20 isn't wrong as his personality really got flushed out in that season, which takes place right after Sodor's Legend of the Lost Treasure. Great work as always, keep it up Sam!
Didn't expect this one 👍
haha yeah!! :D
Ryan's first appared in the movie Sodor's Legend Of The Lost Treasure (I watched it recently)
I think Ryan first appeared in Sodor’s Legend of the Lost Treasure (2015)
Wow, didn’t realize Ryan had finally been released! Glad to have found out about it through this channel. I want to say I appreciate that you don’t hold back from your criticisms despite this being a Thomas and Friends product - I’m sure it’d be more fun for all of us if there were no issues and everything about the model was fantastic but I much prefer to hear the honest thoughts from someone as knowledgeable in model trains as yourself.
Nice video, next time you put Ryan in a video have him borrow Thomas's coaches he did use them in a movie
That's a great idea - thanks for the suggestion!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I will get Ryan soon 😁
For a Thomas model, this looks excellent, and a model I can get in the states, but not for that price.
Is not my thing Thomas but this is a nice Thomas member.
You should make a Narrow Gauge layout for the Skarloey Railway engines and review Skarloey, Rheneas, Peter Sam, and Rusty.
That would be amazing - I'd love that! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)

Wasn’t Ryan the one we all thought from the preproduction pictures would have a diecast body?
Sometimes my neighbor’s kids like to come over and watch me run our layout with my son, and I was thinking of adding Ryan to our fleet for them to watch, but I’m not paying $200.
One of greasley's greatest
YYYEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS HES FINALY CAME OUT YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Ryan didn't appear in season 20 he appeared in the 2015 special sodors legend of the lost treasure which was out the same year as season 20
Nice video sam
Thank you! :D
This is why I preferred Hornby's range.
