My name is Kitty Kanhoffen, I am a teacher as well as an outdoor enthusiast. My passion for the outdoors first started when I was introduced to fishing through my husband Daniel in 2012 and it expanded quickly when I began co-hosting on Fishing with Rod. The curiosity did not kill this Kitty, but has only furthered my passion beyond fishing, which now includes foraging and hiking in British Columbia, Canada.
On this channel, you will find a collection of videos which document my adventures, discoveries, successes and mistakes. My videos include fishing, mushroom hunting and hiking. Thanks for stopping by and please subscribe! 🎣🍄🏔

@@KittyKanhoffen don't worry about any of that, it's just great to get such detailed information on foraging in the area. I'm well versed on the eastern and southern US but the PNW is where I'm really looking to spend my life. Having fantastic instructors like crew you have assembled together really helps to learn the fine points of fishing and foraging in BC. I do need to get a few books on mycology.
Any titles you think are the most beneficial would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for an amazing set of videos. Chris.

I'd say boil some egg noodles. Saute your mushrooms in butter, with fresh minced garlic and maybe some sliced green onions. Season with salt and pepper. Add the cooked egg noodles to the cooking mushrooms maybe with a tablespoon of the water from the noodles. I would put shredded parm and mozzarella until I got the consistency that I liked. Serve it in a bowel and gnarish with fresh parsley.

Spring it's morels, fall it's chantrelle/prochini/lions mane/etc., and winter it's yellow feet!. I haven't found a good summer mushroom. So in summer months I grow oysters indoors.

Last year was gang busters for both Chant's and Matsu's. I still have 4 lrg zip bags of Matsu's in the freezer from last year. (And yes, they can be frozen raw using the Japanese way) Found a few this year, but again, not a great year.
We did get a Cauliflower this year, which my wife is always on the look out for. Makes for an awesome mushroom soup!
Tons of Lobsters this year. Just not a huge fan of them. OK to make a cream soup base with. Apparently they are good in a tomato based soup too.

I have attached a video that you may find helpful Jonathan.
I too feel your pain. It took me a while to be able to identify them both from a distance, but once you have seen them enough you'll be able to do it. For me the Jacks are a slightly different orange, more orange/pink. Whereas the Chaterelles are gold. As for the boletes, they are a shroom I'm still trying to nail down myself. We don't target the Admirables, but find them on downed hemlock while looking for Chanterelles. Porcini I can't help you with since we haven't figured them out either. We were going to take the time to look for them while hiking around in the valley (they love high elevation), but we never came across one. :/ Keep searching, it took us a couple years of exploring new ground and even revisiting it multiple times in the fall to understand flush times.
      Cheers and thanks for watching!

My sniffer must be broken. I don't detect any seafood aroma in lobster mushrooms at all. They don't smell any different to me than the host mushroom, which isn't appealing, so I've never tried one. Does the seafood flavour come out when you cook them? Would the seafood flavour be stronger closer to the surface where the coating of red mold is? Like, should I just trim off the outer parts to cook and discard the interior of the mushroom?
Also, aren't you worried about ripping a hole in your waders walking through all the twigs and branches?
