This show will always be my greatest inspiration. I still use so many of their quips when trying to be witty (trying). I used to go to sleep every night at 12 listening to this in headphones and alternate between the two records. Better days.
I'm from the Gong, and I think after all these years this is still hilarious. Apart from Norman we also have the Farrelly Brothers at the Illawarra Country and Western Suburbs Leagues Club - with their big hit I've Been Everywhere, Wollongong Wollongong Wollongong Wollongong Wollongong .....and Dapto. And the founder of Wollongong was born in a foundry. Mervyn Wipple, Man Of A Thousand Voices. Kev Kavanagh - butcher laureate See ya round like a rissole eh eh. .Ahhhh memories of a great show.
"I've been everywhere, man, I've been everywhere, I've been to Wollongong,Wollongong,Wollongong,Wollongong,Wollongong,Wollongong,Wollongong...../......Wollongong,Wollongong,Wollongong,Wollongong,Wollongong, Dapto and Wollongooooooooooooooooooong!"
The song...is about...Wollongong...so...why all the images of Austinmer, Scarborough, Stanwell Tops & the rest of the northern suburbs that have been taken over by chardonnay swilling, smoked salmon scoffing, beemer driving Sydney refugees???. There wasn't a single pic of the Gong in this!!! Or Port Kembla, or Dapto!!! We are the forgotten!
Really, are you from the area...you don't recognise the once famous ERS stack in Port? And there was also a huge number of refugees / migrants that settled in this area after WW2. How many Chardys have you had?
My big brother bought me the "Aunty Jack Sings Wollongong" album on which this song appears for Christmas 1974.

You can see the seacliff bridge, the images are taken very recently.
The first half minute were nearly all pix of Port Kembla & its beautiful oceanside , viewed from Hill 60 . Great spot ✌
Have you heard of greater Wollongong?
Really, are you from the area...you don't recognise the once famous ERS stack in Port?
