RIP The Stack...demolished 2013.
That's definitely no Wollongong the Brave. >:(
I truly blown away after 10 yrs no-one has commented, anyway Being obsessed with KIller Whales...(early 2000's) I went to two-fold bay in Eden NSW 6 months ago.. Loved the legend of 'Old Tom" And the museum was something I'll never forget.... memories forever. Purchased & red the book by Ted Mead and it was a truly a wonderful story between animals and man.Gotta luv TOM. Also I recommend Tom Of Twofold Bay by Harry Lawson.
My big brother bought me the "Aunty Jack Sings Wollongong" album on which this song appears for Christmas 1974.
Tip. when they shut down Port Kembla Steel Works we will make a lot of money. invest now. Wollongong the brave indeed.
They mightn't have class, but they do have the the Bulli Pass.
"I've been everywhere, man, I've been everywhere, I've been to Wollongong,Wollongong,Wollongong,Wollongong,Wollongong,Wollongong,Wollongong...../......Wollongong,Wollongong,Wollongong,Wollongong,Wollongong, Dapto and Wollongooooooooooooooooooong!"
Hey Brett, this brings back a lot of memories, loved it heaps. Chris
I STILL have a crush on Bondy.
Luvit..
This show will always be my greatest inspiration. I still use so many of their quips when trying to be witty (trying). I used to go to sleep every night at 12 listening to this in headphones and alternate between the two records. Better days.
Me too.
"Ee! Ee! Gotcha a bewdy, ya dead bodgie!!!"
The song...is about...Wollongong...so...why all the images of Austinmer, Scarborough, Stanwell Tops & the rest of the northern suburbs that have been taken over by chardonnay swilling, smoked salmon scoffing, beemer driving Sydney refugees???. There wasn't a single pic of the Gong in this!!! Or Port Kembla, or Dapto!!! We are the forgotten!
You can see the seacliff bridge, the images are taken very recently.
The first half minute were nearly all pix of Port Kembla & its beautiful oceanside , viewed from Hill 60 . Great spot ✌
Have you heard of greater Wollongong?
Really, are you from the area...you don't recognise the once famous ERS stack in Port? And there was also a huge number of refugees / migrants that settled in this area after WW2. How many Chardys have you had?
I still remember going north through Coonabarabran when the news announced that a plane had run into one of the World Trades towers. Thinking this was an accident by some guy in a Cessna, I thought no more of it. When I stopped at the border to feed me face, I couldn't believe the TV pictures. Good an ya Mister Jimi
Seeing 'ow no ones said anything, I will say this. What sort of bloody 'ome does Bob bloody 'udson come from when 'e finds the time to sing about 'is cat rather than getting off 'is arse and 'avin' a 'alf decent look for the poor liddle bastard?
I'm from the Gong, and I think after all these years this is still hilarious. Apart from Norman we also have the Farrelly Brothers at the Illawarra Country and Western Suburbs Leagues Club - with their big hit I've Been Everywhere, Wollongong Wollongong Wollongong Wollongong Wollongong .....and Dapto. And the founder of Wollongong was born in a foundry. Mervyn Wipple, Man Of A Thousand Voices. Kev Kavanagh - butcher laureate See ya round like a rissole eh eh. .Ahhhh memories of a great show.
isn't wollongong a suburb of Dapto ?
thank you - bloody great!!
