This is absolutely amazing :-O How did I miss it? It appears to be at the The Deauville Hotel Lobby... at night. I saw Jacob's 2:30AM show there so this must've been after since he was accepting TWO(!) Grammy Awards on stage in LA like 12-hours later? I supposed only Jacob Collier and Larnell Lewis would have the stamina for a 15-minute ad hoc (mini-electronic-instrument) jam at that hour after the day they both just had. :-O Anyone else pick up that he's quoting his own tune "Saviour" from his release In My Room in the jam? :-) Anyone else notice his technical sideman Ben Bloomberg walk across the background? :-) Any else notice Snarky Puppy percussionist Nate Werth come through the background in the last few minutes of the video, shake his head in astonishment, and then re-appear to video the ending? :-) This is a virtual CLINIC in live de-quantization while maintaining a consistent pulse underneath. OMG thank you so much for capturing this -- a TH-cam video that will become legendary.
Dare I say that my biggest respect goes to the people in this video who are actually LISTENING to the music in that moment, without the urge to take any videos, photos, or otherwise check their phones for texting.
Parts of this remind me of the interaction between Frank Zappa and Vinnie Colaiuta on While You Were Out from Shut Up And Play Yer Guitar. Jacob is a true genius.
the first one is: R.H : GBD - GCE - FAC -F(Bb)D - G(Bb)Eb - Ab(C)Eb L.H : A C G C F Bb The second one at is: R.H : Gb(Bb)Db - Gb(B)Eb - E(Ab)C - A(Db)F - AD(F#) - GBD L.H : Ab Db Gb B E A And finally, the last one at: R.H : Ab(C)Eb - G(Bb)DF - Gb(Bb)Db - Gb(B)Eb - E(Ab)CD - A(C#)E L.H : Bb Eb Ab Db Gb B Jacob is essentially playing progressions that go up fourths using mostly sus chords, with a couple exceptions. I only used parentheses to make it look more orderly, otherwise they mean nothing special. You're welcome :)
Still trying to understand the chord sequences he does at 2:03 and 2:08... I noticed some cicles of fourths there, in the bass (second sequence), but my ears are tricking me... how do you guys hear those?
I just feel like I don't belong here. Like I am watching stuff not meant for me. Like when I was a child, and the grown ups were discussing stuff, and telling me to leave the room. I know it is stupid, but I seriously feel strangely misplaced. This is so beyond me, and I can't even enjoy it. They look at each other in mutual agreement or amusement at particular times, and I am just: What??!? What did I miss?
I feel this way most of the time with a lot of stuff like this. It is technically rich, but from an audible perspective not always as interesting and pleasant.
They're being affected by the feeling and being in sync like when people hang out and just shoot the shit, joking around. It's like being tickled instead of being some mind-blowing technical realization
GreenTheater I sent my phone away right at the beginning of the video, I can assure you a caught it all with my real eyes instead of the camera lens :)
You are assuming that I would care about not having seen this video man. Anyway, I insist, with one or two clips would be enough, in the aftermath they could share it. But there is something deeper behind this behavior and its related to individualism, consumption, social approval many many other dark topics.
I heard him at Ronnie Scott's in February - brilliant of course. But I suspect he'll make his career and fame in the States. Jacob responds to the upbeat optimism of America which you don't get in the UK. Plus, he's under the wing of Quincy Jones and that will lure him away from England. It depresses me when we lose our very best people. Just saying. :-)
at 4:00. even the sounds the door makes are in the pocket lol
hahahaha
this comment got me good i can't lie
WAV pls
Or make a vst with all the tones of the sound, lol
On par with Vulfpeck Rhodes' leg falling on SKy Mall. Some amazing musical random timing.
I might have to post my angle on this I'm directly in front lol this night was one of the coolest nights I've ever had
Please do!
@@stephem8 yeah lol he's the one that went viral

SeanFenlon yeah man, Larnell and I were hanging out and jamming, and then he left to grab Jacob at like 5am! It was an insane night haha
This is like the 60th time I’ve come back to this vid. All of Jacob’s jams are masterclass filled with lots of things to learn

John Redberg Agreed!
John Redberg but if they didn't record the world wouldn't be able to witness it!

When Nate strolls in like "hooooooooooooold up a sec"
Adam Marshall haha, it was his birthday too!
10:25 I first actually saw this on another channel where the guys camera died, and you can see his camera die in this video lmao
2:02 those chords omfg anyone know what chords are those? i love that little progression!
Sounds like the same sort of progression as the bit in Saviour
the first one is:
R.H : GBD - GCE - FAC -F(Bb)D - G(Bb)Eb - Ab(C)Eb
L.H : A C G C F Bb
The second one at is:
R.H : Gb(Bb)Db - Gb(B)Eb - E(Ab)C - A(Db)F - AD(F#) - GBD
L.H : Ab Db Gb B E A
And finally, the last one at:
R.H : Ab(C)Eb - G(Bb)DF - Gb(Bb)Db - Gb(B)Eb - E(Ab)CD - A(C#)E
L.H : Bb Eb Ab Db Gb B
Jacob is essentially playing progressions that go up fourths using mostly sus chords, with a couple exceptions.

@@julianmanjarres1998 Sure that the second note in left hand is not D?
@@rafaelbachmann3619 I think that is what Jacob meant to play, but in the recording I hear C. But I agree it should be D

Does he start with Db in a cicle of fourths with all major chords, at 2:08?
At 2:03, I'm hearing something like Asus4, Bsus4, Gsus4, Asus4, A#sus4.

notice how NO ONE is actually, LIVE watching this awesome jam. Their eyes are all on screens. Sad

if you watch the version from the go pro (or whatever kinda camera it is) everyone behind Jacob is actually jamming with no phones out

Is Jacob happier, more fulfilled in America? I wonder if Britain will lose him to the United States eventually....
