BigDirty; @350lbs unfortunately I would strongly not recommend a 250cc. If you want a more capable off road bike get the Honda 650 dual. If you want a more capable road bike get the Suzuki 650 dual. Stay away from the KLR650. Although a great bike, it weighs a ton, has very little suspension travel and ground clearance. It makes for a very good adventure bike though. With your size and weight I'd also recommend a Honda African Twin.
BigDirt; Expect to get an aftermarket rear spring. I have a friend who's 6'6 300 who rides a YZ250 and it handles his weight but that's a hardcore off road bike and who knows how long the bike can take his weight. I have another friend who's 6'9 around 325 and he rides a Kawi Vulcan 900 custom. He had his rear spring maxed out for his weight but he's getting an aftermarket one due to the mechanic recommendation.
I just bought a brand new 2017 WR250R yesterday, largely due to your recommendations. I must say that I absolutely LOVE the bike, even in stock condition. I'm coming off a TTR230 though, so it's not like I'm used to riding an MX bike or something like that. As far as mods go, I'm definitely going with the hand guards, skid plate, radiator guard, mirrors, and fender eliminator kit. However, I'm still debating whether or not to do the performance mods. I was surprisingly happy with the stock performance of the bike. Money isn't really the issue. It's more a matter of whether or not I feel like doing the exhaust, programmer, and removal of the emissions parts. I may just start out with a larger rear sprocket and take it from there...decisions decisions. Anyway, thanks for all the videos!
I sold my super sport over a year ago and got wr250r. Never had a second of regret. These bikes turn "good boys" in to hooligans. Gotta try to get it. This bike brings, me personally, back to my childhood, where there were no worries...
Hi Cruza! I'm a beginner female rider who is now addicted to riding. You're right: Riding makes you feel GOOOOOD. 😀 Love ALL of your videos. You're very informative. You're cool and have way too much fun. I love it! 😎👍
I’ll tell you want brutha you got me excited for the wr! I have raced a lot of hare scrambles and enduros the last 20 years but never rode a dual sport but I’m sold ! Rick n roll 🕺🤘🏻
I like fuel injection too, but carbs perform perfectly if they are not neglected which i'm sure you would never do. I do agree though, DRZ400 with aluminum frame, EFI, and 6th gear and i'll be first in line to buy. Yamaha would release a street legal 450 quick as hell if that happened hahaha
Great video brother!!! That's probably the best I've seen! Tuns of info, great commentary, sound was perfect, and enjoyable to watch! Gonna watch again. Gotta 1990 Dr 350 s. Due to cancer long term cancer related problems, just to hard to start without a stand. Was looking into a newer Dr with electric start. But, luv the looks of the wr 250 r. After watching your video, that's what I'm gonna look for now. Used. Gotta small budget. Very much forward to pickng one of these up. Thanx again for the video!
Hey cycleCruza awesome review,,you should have mentioned the guy in alaska that bought 6 WR250r's for a touring biz I pay 198 a year full coverage in alaska (same bike as yours ) and im 50 with a good driving record,,lol everything costs more in alaska,,ride safe my motorcycle brother ,,,liked ( thumbs up )
Thanks! I totally forgot the name, I had so much info in this video I had to cut it down from nearly an hour down to 25 minutes. lol I can go on and on about this bike. $198 is still cheap! On my cbr1000rr I pay nearly $600+ a year. Take care and stay safe! Thanks for dropping a comment!
You pay.....$198.00 American a year with full coverage? I pay, $314.00 Canadian A MONTH for full coverage. I am 46, married...four daughters and perfect driving record for 30 years. WOW!!!!
I have that bike and just bought a drz400s. Only 19lbs more and 39hp. 250 to 400 with only 19lbs more. You can't push start a fuel injected bike with a dead battery. I've ridden carb bikes coast to coast thru the mountains and valleys. I design engines for a living. I lean toward the carb out in the middle of nowhere. It's a tough choice, personal preference. I'm glad you like yours. Both good choices.
You definitely can push start fuel injected bike. I push started my r6 several times. Push started my r1 when I went for its first test ride before buying it
@@playsportfun3356 I have never tried without a battery in the bike. But it was completely dead wouldnt even make a click sound. Once I push started it , it ran just fine on its own power. Once you turn it off thou you have to push start it again
I'm telling you cruza, i live in canton Ohio and i own a 2016 drz400 (with mods) and we can do a comparison in the woods. I have some great woods around here to ride.
Great Videos CycleCruza! I'm looking to purchase a WR250r to add to my collection :) Thanks for the great review on it. I'm also looking to purchase some of the same aftermarket parts. Safe riding!
excellent video man and awesome riding too. I'd just like to point out that with $3000 in mods on a drz you can get a 60 hp sumo urban dominator. while also shaving 10-15 pounds in the process. with proper jetting the drz will start first time everytime, with the fcr pumper carb the throttle response is equal to, if not more responsive than efi(in my experience). the sm model has showa suspension. you can buy one used for $2-3.5k depending on year and model + another 3k in mods. that together is less than buying a new wr250r. while I think you're right that it's the best dual sport, I'd say the drz makes a superior supermoto, is overall cheaper, aftermarket more prolific, more simple therefore more reliable. Valve checks on these bikes is just regular maintenance for me, very quick and easy. still wish suzuki updated the bike lol.
I love my DRZ400S.. I have the stock carb with the stock jetting and mine starts first time everytime.. You don't need to spend money to get a bike that's easy to start! I don't understand your comment though about buying a used DRZ vs a new WR.. you could just buy a used WR as well.
Performance wise, a wr250r with an aftermarket rear shock (e.g. made by Ohlins or Hyperpro) will be almost equivalent to any other 250CC Japanese enduro dirtbike No matter if you will take it to some technical single track riding or some open "fast trails" kind of riding
yo cyclecruza the drz400e model is the dope one. 2003 its a older bike but it has hotter camshafts higher compression and weighs in at 262lbs has 48hp stock. way more performance than the standard 400 model a guy selling in my area for 3200 street legal 10,000 miles. if you don't mind a little maintenance thats a solid bike. it has electric start for those cold mornings.
Despite the 25 pound weight difference, and the 5 speeds. I think the DRZ is a better value. The 5th gear on the DRZ is higher than the 6th gear in the wr. You can get a used drz400 for $3000 put a fcr41mm carburator with 3x3 airbox mod, and exhaust and you have 40 horsepower. Yes the wr is better for gnarly trails, but for the open roads of Ohio I'd and did choose the drz400sm.
Another great vid. I picked up a DRZ400 a few months ago and I’m loving it. I have done a full FMF exhaust and had it jetted. How much of a difference did that rear sprocket make?
Small dual sports are so much fun to ride. To me it's cool to be able to come out of the woods and just cruise home on the street... legally. LOL Also, they make awesome commuters.
The just had my 2019 DRZ400SM custom dyno tuned with 3x3 airbox mod, with 167.5 main jet and FMF Mega bomb header and FMF Q4, and I get 37 Horsepower with a custom dyno tune. I think that's worth having a carburetor and an extra 25 pounds.
so I guess you didn't regret not getting the 690, after all. Great vid man thanks. Damn good information man. I between the 690 and this now right know. Your convincing me.
After watching a motovlogger have a crap load of problems with it I'm glad I passed on it. He had to get the motor re-built twice and he bought it brand new. Dude got stranded in the middle of the desert when his 690 broke down, he had to have a helicopter pick him up and he came back later for his bike.
Hahaha yeah I think he was Australian or something. This just finished convincing me. I have a KLR new edition. Love the damn thing but as you mentioned in one of your vids when you drop it it sucks. Thanks again buddy. Whenever you feel like riding Baja hook me up. I'm in SD it's my back yard.
The DRZ stock headlight SUCKS, I'm warning you. I rode with my brother in his car with me trailing behind him on my bike past midnight, and he complained that he could hardly see my headlight from his rear mirror. I honestly recommend either doing an LED upgrade for your stock light, or buying a better aftermarket headlight for it. Just be warned that it's a huge pain to completely replace the stock headlight because you have to remove your front forks to remove the headlight.
That's about as good of an idea as the one you had to use that pic for your profile. Putting Cain "I pull out of more fights than I pull out of women" Velasquez with a rainbow as your profile pic is a ridiculous idea. So is getting a drz just because the headlight is bigger. Either bike you will need to upgrade the headlight or add extra led lights to it or both. Doesn't matter what you get,you will have to eventually mod it or buy parts cause you broke it.
We didn't have it either but i just checked the dealership website today and found that they now have them in stock, the next best option would've been an xt250. I'll be joining in on that "slide actioooNNN!!!" :D I'm in Kenya.
Hey CycleCruza, I just saw your 2008 CBR600rr on eBay. When I saw the bike, I knew right away that the bike was yours once and after scrolling down to read the description, I was right, it's your former bike. Still looks good too. The seller is tcrowe2011 if anyone is interested.
My Crf250l with full fmf exhaust kit programmer etc was a great little bike for the buck. Not as good as the Drz or the 250r but I really wish I had kept it my Africa Twin is looking so good now I don't want to wreck it lol (still need to upgrade suspension as I am 265pds) I'm just going to get a second hand 250 with all the upgrades hopefully a 250r.
Ive been thinking about one of these little guys for doing the Trans America Trail and a few back country discovery routes. My KLR is just too fat. Itll do them but Itll be a lot of work.
like riding the blue ridge 45 mph very few stops pass Asheville, but have to be ready for some wet weather, tail of the dragon on a dual would be awesome lots of twist's.. peace// ps. are you going to do some dirt bike racing?
Thanks for this! I'm in a tough decision moment right now, trying to decide if I'm going to go with the higher performance but higher maintenance of a KTM EXC-F 350/450/500, or the lower performance but lower maintenance of the WR250R, and my purchase decision is just a few days away...
It was a very hard decision for me as well, actually, it was something I researched and pondered for many years. However, for me, I'm not fond of working on a bike a lot, would rather be riding. Also, WR250r can be used as an Adventure bike, unlike any of the street legal dirt bikes. If you want a bike that can truly do it all then get a wr250r. if you can afford it, buy a wr250r AND a KTM street legal dirt bike. That way you have the WR250r to commute and ride when the KTM is down for maintenance and you also have the WR to take adventure rides with like doing the Trans American Trail across the USA. Check out all of the Trans-AM TH-cam videos ridden with a WR250r and you'll really appreciate the bike even more.
Imagine if car manufacturers thought that way, we would still be riding around in Ford pintos and AMC Grmelins. lol The Yamaha TW200 still has a rear drum brake.

Hey man I've watched all your vid's on this bike, I'm 16 weigh 160 shocks shouldn't have any problems. Grew up on Dirt bikes age 3 - 12 and want to get back into it with this bike. You obviously recommend the bike, so I'm just wondering how hard it is to mod this thing. My dads worked on bikes his whole life so I have some assistance loads of open road and country side to ride it where I'm at. Also do you think its a good bike to start out with on the roads as I'm just getting my license.
My 14 dr650 died on me while on a trail..got jump started twice and still stalled while riding, ended up towing it back... Lights still work when I turn it on...but just wont start. Think its the battery?Going to have it checked tomorrow. Don't have a charger kit just yet. Advise would be helpful, thanks. has under 400 miles Love your stuff CC, got into riding because of you. Thanks for the vids!
Sorry to hear, could be a bad battery or regulator (Which aides in charging the battery). Cool to hear I inspired you to ride! That's why I do these videos! Take care and best of luck with the bike!
There is a sensor on the kick stand that prevents you from putting the bike into gear while the stand is down. Some people have had issues with the sensor getting damaged on the trail and killing the engine even when the stand is up. Simple fix is to cut the wires that run into the sensor and splice/solder them together. If the battery and stator check out you might want to investigate the kick stand.
Brother I could not stop laughing. " some slide action, whoop" lol. My man I bought a 2019 wr250r today because i didn't want to fuck my ktm690 enduro r up too fast on the dirt. Had a good tax return so I paid cash for this thing. I have to say it is alot of fun. I'm gonna get me some of that slide and log action you whoop about.
Not gonna lie, I sort of want a dirt bike... I really like my MT 07 but I wouldn't mind getting a second bike to get in the dirt. I want a dirtbike bigger than a 250, but don't want the high maintainence of a bike like the WR450F or a CRF450. I also want fuel injection, that is a must for me. The DRZ400 would be PERFECT if it was fuel injected and had one more gear, but I guess you can't have everything
You might want to think long and hard about whether you need it to be street legal or not, the maintenance isn't crazy on most real dirt bikes if you're not doing street miles and something like a 250EXC is MUCH faster and MUCH better sprung than a DRZ400 or WR250R and you won't be dealing with compromises on tires.
DRZ400 is a great bike but it also has an extra 24 lbs, a dude I know owns both the wr250r and drz400 and he said the power is NOT night and day different, yes it has more torque but an extra 24 lbs of weight and of course only 5 gears and a carburetor. 2016+WR450F can make a good dual sport BUT only has 5 gears and there is no proper fuel tank upgrade, the IMS 3 gal tank leaves the fuel tank vulnerable. Also, of course the wr450f requires much more frequent valve checks only 1k oil changes. Also, you have to make it street legal which may not be accepted in all states, better to buy a bike street legal from the factory. KTM 500 EXC is a favorite among many riders but expensive maintenance and you can't ADV on it nor would you want to ride it on the highway all day. The street legal dirt bikes limit your riding options and require you to be married to a wrench, oil and feeler gauge. WR250r has a low compression engine, built for reliability, no vibes, ride all day on the highway and can do everything else with very little wrenching, however, you just give up some power compared to the dirt bikes. You can't have it all!
It sucks that none of these companies haven't made a low maintainence, fuel injected, 400cc+, 6 gear, dirt bike... They would sell like crazy to the supermoto/enduro crowd. Hopefully sometime in the future we might get one like it!
Actually, those 2017 CRF250 Rally bikes looks pretty sick, if a 450 version of that comes out I'd totally pick one up! Even if they don't, the 250 would be alright
I really wish the CRF250M made it into the states, but it seems that these JP companies had their heads deep up their asses for not noticing the revival of supermotos soon enough, and have been seeing more of them riding around here in CA for the past year now.
Thanks, I believe you said that in the video, I just didn't remember. I tried to locate a WR here in ATX and couldn't find one. They must be in demand.
Skip both and pick up a WR450f. It's more than worth the work to street legalize it. I understand that defeats the purpose of DRZ vs WR250r, but even in Cali there is always always a way to legalize the bike (not hard either).
450f is a special bike. I mean it looks okay before buying but trust me, it really is a huge pain in the ass to buy a new oil filter and 1lt oild each week or 5-6 days. After few months you just sitck back and say, holly shit I really spend a lot of money for this bike. After a year or something you just want to sell it because the piston etc starts dying, everything has a price. they usually have 150-300hr life(depends on how you use it) then you have to spend money which is like %30 of the bike price to make it go again. Dirt bikes are for those people who really loves riding hardcore on the dirt, who races or already have a bike and just want to chill in the nature few hours in a week as a hobby.
Dzhem Chelik that's pretty exaggerated. Realistically it's 1000 mile oil changes. Which how often I ride my bike is about every 6 months. 4 stroke pistons and motors are not 150 hour motors, 2 stroke top ends? Maybe. A modern 4 stroke who's valves are in spec and has clean oil should last indefinitely. If you're racing a YZ450f super hard and training hard with it putting rough hours on the bike then if course youll be putting in a new piston in probably like 500 hours. 1 L and a oil filter is about 12 bucks by the way ;)
Hey cycle brother, I'm 65, a novice off roader, have dropped my vstrom to much off road, want ride with my younger nephew, do you feel this bike would!d be better for me, lighter for sure. Thank you, great video
WR 250 is a good bike if you're 150 pounds or less. If you're riding around on flat fields or termite mounds I guess u don't need much power but, if you're doing any serious hill climbing, u really do need the extra power I've taken my carburetor DR 650 up Santiago peak 5600ft with no problems at all However I would prefer fuel injection and as far as a 6th gear, that would be good too but, u only really need it on the highway if your bike has less than 30 hp. Suzuki in my opinion is the most reliable bike and that's coming from someone who's owned several Yamadogs. I still like Yamaha but until they build a bigger dual sport I will stick to Suzuki I would recommend the DRZ400 which I'm getting ready to buy as my 3rd bike
I'm 185lbs without gear and the wr250r is awesome. However, you have to get the suspension tuned for your weight, For off-road, I have yet to meet a hill the wr250r hasn't blazed up. There are numerous videos on youtube with a wr250r in an actual endurance race with steep hills and did well.
Have nothing against the bike but, I rode one and compared to the DR 650 I have, it just seemed lacking in torque but I am 6'1" and 220 so that could be a factor. If they did make a bike with at least 35-40 hp I would consider looking at it over the DRZ
Was it modded tho? Stock form the wr250r is a slug. You have to put on an aftermarket exhaust and header, yank the air box door and put a fuel controller on it and get it properly tuned to open it up and it be more fun. You can even put on an Athena big bore kit for more power. DR650 is a great bike but heavy at about 340 lbs, could get tiresome real quick on some gnarly single tracks or raw woods riding. It just depends on you preferences tho.
The reason these companys wont make a lightweight low maintenance dirtbike is because simply no one would buy race bikes anymore :/ most people who have race bikes dont race im pretty sure they'd buy a lighter drz in race form over a race bike
CycleCruza not bad. I've been looking at getting my sons and I into something and this looks like the best option. Wanting to travel and trail blaze on something that doesn't need as much upkeep. Thanks for keeping the channel alive and interesting! Keep up the good shit brotha! Appreciate the response! Hoon it up bro! My 5 year old laughs his fucking ass off watching this 250 shit. "Slide action!!" All day! Real talk, we were waiting for 5min to roll through a car wash while watching your WR250R vid and this kid was losing his shit laughing his ass off. LOL
idk, lol. I got the recommendation from nearly every dual sport forum and online retailers. It's a well known recommended tire combination in the dual sport community.
how is the drz400 heavier than the wr250? look up the specs! funny I've looked it up and every site I look it up on has a different curb weight. my 08 drz400sm feels super light. first site I went to had drz400s as same weight as the wr250r.
Go to the specs page for the wr250r and drz400, Wr250r is 295 lbs stock lbs vs DRZ400 at 317 lbs, 22 lbs difference. DRZ400 is a great bike but needs updating bad, needs FI and 6 gears. All the japanese 650 dual sports still have a carb, japan needs to update their dual sports bad, it's like they don't care.
I did. like I said various sites have the weight at different amount. they say my drz400sm is 295lbs. but even that 20lbs diff between a 250 and a 400 something's not right...
but whatever lol 20-22 lbs isn't much at all when you are comparing the engine size and torque specs. and like you did with your wr250r you can take things off the drz and drop that weight easy.
I think they should make 450 dual sports, IMHO. The DRZ400 is the only bike that stands between the light but slow 250s, and the faster but heavier 650s.
DRZ is one generation back bike while WR is modern bike. Even as per the way DRZ looks. Any comparasion is wrong based on this statement. Plus engine volumes are different. Yamaha WR250R can be only compared to Honda CRF250L and Kawasaki KLX250S. WR is definitely way better than other 2 taken together, however they are the only 3 modern 250 Japanese dual sports. DRZ is not in this line. 400 cc carburator 5 gears old turtle although still a good one.
CycleCruza....I just bought a brand new 2017 Yamaha wr250r about a month ago. My first bike ever, I mean, first bike ever that is legal for the street. Have rode enduro's and quads most my life. I want to replace the stock exhaust cause I hate the lawnmower sound it makes. However, I have read that putting on a Q4 with power bomb header without an EJK fuel controller or FMF fuel controller will actually have more of a negative effect on performance. I have been told to install a fuel controller first and then when can afford the exhaust to put that on after. The problem I am having, I can not seem to find a fuel controller for a 2017 WR....another obstacle, I live in Canada and the Customs ppl all seem to think we are all frigg'in terrorists up here so shipping from the States is usually a problem. I was wondering, since your in the loop with all this stuff if you would have any suggestions on what make, type of EFI and where to purchase one for a 2017?? Any help would be appreciated!!
yeah you need a fuel controller with exhaust and header. You can get a FMF fuel controller or get what I have, a Power Commander V and add a dual map switch if you want like I did. Check this video I did on the mods: th-cam.com/video/fgP95j6TrvQ/w-d-xo.html
Just saying that when u said its taken everyhill youve thrown at it u havent really thrown much it was designed to perform alot better offroad than what you have been doing just saying you shouldve expected it to make those hills
I've done other hills I haven't filmed. You all see only about 20% of the riding I do. However, here is a youtube video showing the WR250R hanging with a KTM 500 and KTM 300 on some steep hills: th-cam.com/video/gAfxcdkLNSk/w-d-xo.html
wish i could afford any bike i want.. zzr1400 is haunting me. at one point i gona get one, i can't imagine how comfy all that MASSIVE tourqe be... too bad they don't make a 7 speed variant.
30 horse power? You are getting into DR650 territory. I am listening. I have a DR. But I have converted to a Adventure bike. Now I need something lighter for single track with DR maintenance free.
I can say just from watching video wr250r much lighter maneuvering and better balanced than drz400 plus better gearing. No way you can do riding so slow in the middle of the bush without clutching like crazy on drz
I found a mint 2008 low miles 4000 miles I had the shock rebuilt $280.00 new chain sprockets antifreeze changed new tail light got rid of the ugly stock one love the bike now the rear shock is a pogo stick not good
Yeah it's taller, 37" seat height but you can get a lower seat. Don't worry about how tall a bike is tho, learn to ride it and you will be fine. There is a little chick who rides a tall dirt bike supermoto and she is 5'3" and she wheelies like a beast.
it goes +85 without a problem but after 75, the bikes starts shaking due to it's weight and height(also due to it's no wind blocking design) so it is not very smart move to ride it after +75.
Has Yamaha sent you any freebies yet? If not, you better get 'em soon! You are making me wanna buy a WR250R, and I have recommended WR250R to my coworker who is currently looking for a dual-sport bike.
CycleCruza I got a 2015 KTM Superduke 1290R with mods galore and my 2015 WR250R with Supermoto setup it's as much fun as I do on my KTM! I haven't even had a chance to throw on my off roading wheels on it yet! I will never give up my WR250R! Something special about the WR!! I won't give up my KTM or the WR!

im 6'6" 350lbs, what should i look at if i want a bike like this?
DRZ400S. You can easily and inexpensively replace the front and rear springs on the DRZ.
BigDirtyBasterd Dr-z 400
This is some of the purest glee and delight i've seen from an adult, and it was delightful. Also I now ~must~ try one of these.
CC loves having those R's in the names of his bikes.
The ultimate bike for CC would be the Yamaha/Suzuki/Kawasaki/Honda R1000ccRR 4RrRr superR
ray thomas Haha!
Lol first u pissed off the dog, then the man, then the cat, then the horse! And the end result? I want a WR250
LOL!
Just bought an '08 WR250X with a dirt wheel set up! It's been such a blast as a Super Moto and I cannot wait to trail ride it this summer in Oregon.
Wow it's been 2 years now? I've been watching you for a lot longer than i thought. I remember when you had 10k subs. Keep up the good work.
some SLIIIIIIIIDE action is back!!! WOOH!!!
Hey cycleCruza
awesome review,,you should have mentioned the guy in alaska that bought 6 WR250r's for a touring biz
I pay 198 a year full coverage in alaska (same bike as yours ) and im 50 with a good driving record,,lol
everything costs more in alaska,,ride safe my motorcycle brother ,,,liked ( thumbs up )
WOW!!!!
by with cash only need ''liability ins.''
How is the WR holding up now?
Good vid bro! You're always excited when riding !
Push started my r1 when I went for its first test ride before buying it
@Tampa_tom not without a battery you can't? Or your telling me the generator will kick in enough juice on a dead battery to run the electronics??
@@playsportfun3356 I have never tried without a battery in the bike. But it was completely dead wouldnt even make a click sound. Once I push started it , it ran just fine on its own power. Once you turn it off thou you have to push start it again
@@Tampa_tom that's good to know. Thank you!
Love to watch someone having fun and lots of it !!
Thanks! Best of luck with everything!
Damn, 2 years already? Time really flies by fast...
wow 2 years already , time sure does fly when your having fun !
excellent video man and awesome riding too.
I don't understand your comment though about buying a used DRZ vs a new WR.. you could just buy a used WR as well.
maybe it's just where I'm located, I can't find a used wr250r for less than $4500.
Ben Clark they don't sell nearly as well as a drz400s so they can be hard to find.
Tenny80 drz4life
Two years?! Already??! I feel like you just got it a couple months ago damn time flies
Performance wise, a wr250r with an aftermarket rear shock (e.g. made by Ohlins or Hyperpro) will be almost equivalent to any other 250CC Japanese enduro dirtbike
No matter if you will take it to some technical single track riding
or some open "fast trails" kind of riding
I had the stock one rebuilt by a local suspension guy they are considered non rebuildable but for $280.00 it’s way better than stock now
Very good video. Thanks for sharing your experience and information!
Heck yeah! I think my first bike will be a WR250R turned supermoto, painted red :)
Username is 👌
I have the same bike and I agree it’s the perfect bike for all forms of riding
Dude it feels like you just got this bike two months ago... Damn, time flies.
yo cyclecruza the drz400e model is the dope one. 2003 its a older bike but it has hotter camshafts higher compression and weighs in at 262lbs has 48hp stock. way more performance than the standard 400 model a guy selling in my area for 3200 street legal 10,000 miles. if you don't mind a little maintenance thats a solid bike. it has electric start for those cold mornings.
love ur channel Brother stay safe ride long!
you should do a video going over your bike. tires. tire pressure. mods seat height set for ur weight bassically as tec as you could be
Despite the 25 pound weight difference, and the 5 speeds.
Nice! congrats! Rear sprocket gives it more pull off the bottom, much needed for the wr250r.
I love my Wr250r, it often makes me laugh out loud while I'm riding....always a good sign!
You make riding so enjoyable, i can't wait to sell my Raptor for one of these.
Small dual sports are so much fun to ride. To me it's cool to be able to come out of the woods and just cruise home on the street... legally. LOL Also, they make awesome commuters.
damn you're making this decision hard lol. I need one
Have no idea what you just said but it sounded pretty cool
CycleCruza you should goto a local MX Trail and make a video there. Better than just riding in a field ;p
The WR250R with a FZ07 motor for torque what a dream bike.
engine is too heavy, reason why most dirt bikes and lightweight dual sports are single thumpers.
so I guess you didn't regret not getting the 690, after all.
Im getting the drz because the square headlight is bigger.
Sea; Lol.
E2Moto well I just meant it looked cooler. I would only night ride on my fz 10👌
I got motivated and got a xr 150l and man I have dropped that bike so many times but its really fun to ride.
Wish I could get one in the UK.
Great review love the channel.
They don't sell them there? I thought these bikes were sold worldwide.
No, can't get one in The Netherlands either. I guess we don't have enough woods or mountains to spark enough interest in these bikes.
Yea it's super annoying, only other option is the CRF250L.
Same here in South Africa only option CRF 250l, wish they sold it here Yamaha would have massive success here a lot of roads for dual sport riders
WR250r is great on the trans am trail, many wr250r videos doing the trans am on youtube.
Excellent review. Where did you get those folding mirrors? Are they actually part of the handgaurds?
2 years of good ole sllliiidddeee action!
You're right dude, you're spending way too much money on that Yamaha when you could have gotten 4 more back up dirt bikes instead!
like riding the blue ridge 45 mph very few stops pass Asheville, but have to be ready for some wet weather, tail of the dragon on a dual would be awesome lots of twist's.. peace// ps. are you going to do some dirt bike racing?
Steve Hacker get the WR they have better resale value if you decide you would rather have more engine.
2 years since you got the wr250 r dang i rember when you still had the cbr 250r
These years go fast, 5 years motovlogging now! A half a decade! Crazy. It doesn't seem that long, like they say when you are having fun time flies.
Exactly man keep it up ^~^
Let's go for a riiiiide!
Great review. thx!
I got my eyes on the drzsm but i really wish it was a 6 speed. I prefer carbs but a nice tall 6th would be a gift from god
Doesn't look like it's going to happen anytime soon, Japan seems to be sleeping on their dual sports. The japanese 650's are ancient as well.

EASY to work on! Great bike to start on!
My 14 dr650 died on me while on a trail..got jump started twice and still stalled while riding, ended up towing it back... Lights still work when I turn it on...but just wont start. Think its the battery?Going to have it checked tomorrow. Don't have a charger kit just yet. Advise would be helpful, thanks.
has under 400 miles
Love your stuff CC, got into riding because of you. Thanks for the vids!
Sorry to hear, could be a bad battery or regulator (Which aides in charging the battery). Cool to hear I inspired you to ride! That's why I do these videos! Take care and best of luck with the bike!
Thanks bro, yea I'm guessing it's the battery due to the fact that it's just been sitting too long since its a 14 and only had 300 when I got it.
Time to go to a mx track!
there's one on Smith rd west of Medina... it may be a nice place to ride.
Is it still open? I thought it closed?
I believe so. I'm not sure if you have to be a member though or not. Just Google Smith Road Raceway.
they may just close during winter
there's also Apple Cabin mx track about 8 miles south of Medina on rt 42 near Lodi
looking forward to some "air action" in your vids
You mentioned changing the fork springs for your weight, but didn't mention any suspension mods. Do you feel the stock suspension is that good?
I had my suspension done by Go race. It's best to have it totally upgraded and re-valved.
Thanks, I believe you said that in the video, I just didn't remember. I tried to locate a WR here in ATX and couldn't find one. They must be in demand.
Coming back to the vid, you think about stroking your bike to a 310?
Which year WR250R should I get?
They are all the same.
CycleCruza ty
Just make sure all of recalls have been done before buying one.
Skip both and pick up a WR450f. It's more than worth the work to street legalize it. I understand that defeats the purpose of DRZ vs WR250r, but even in Cali there is always always a way to legalize the bike (not hard either).
Cody Alfar Than I am lucky, for in my country it costs around 10k and it comes street leagal
1 L and a oil filter is about 12 bucks by the way ;)
Cody Alfar rip any bike you own
Snipified ?
Hey cycle brother, I'm 65, a novice off roader, have dropped my vstrom to much off road, want ride with my younger nephew, do you feel this bike would!d be better for me, lighter for sure. Thank you, great video
YES!
I still like Yamaha but until they build a bigger dual sport I will stick to Suzuki I would recommend the DRZ400 which I'm getting ready to buy as my
3rd bike
G'day Mate...When are you Cruzing Australia, CycleCruza ?
This is the funniest vlog I've ever seen😂😂
I also the Dunlop 606 rear and MT21 front. What tire pressures are you using for every day Ohio riding?
I just keep them around 15 psi.
When are you going to show us your new yamaha xsr900?
Sliiiiiiiiide action!
Your word is garbage, ktm and husky have street legal 250’s that out perform your bike in every way.
great video
The reason these companys wont make a lightweight low maintenance dirtbike is because simply no one would buy race bikes anymore :/ most people who have race bikes dont race im pretty sure they'd buy a lighter drz in race form over a race bike
How does it do on the freeway? Really looking for something to DD and have fun with.
I ride on the highway all the time, you can't over power cars but it will do 75 mph all day.
LOL
Love to hear you talk bout the bike like ronnie coleman. "yeahhh baby, lightweight" you just missed the " aint nothing but a peanut"
Why the Pirelli Front tire again instead of the Dunlop? Was the Pirelli less squirly?
What are you talking about? Yamaha lists the wet weight of the WR250R at 295lb wet and Suzuki lists the DRZ400S at 317lbs.
If love your duel sport! You’ll spend the doe to get it perfect
Check this video I did on the mods:
th-cam.com/video/fgP95j6TrvQ/w-d-xo.html
Just saying that when u said its taken everyhill youve thrown at it u havent really thrown much it was designed to perform alot better offroad than what you have been doing just saying you shouldve expected it to make those hills
I've done other hills I haven't filmed. You all see only about 20% of the riding I do. However, here is a youtube video showing the WR250R hanging with a KTM 500 and KTM 300 on some steep hills: th-cam.com/video/gAfxcdkLNSk/w-d-xo.html
Just chilling on my 2007 Cb 919, I got that thing cheap
wish i could afford any bike i want..
zzr1400 is haunting me.
at one point i gona get one, i can't imagine how comfy all that MASSIVE tourqe be...
too bad they don't make a 7 speed variant.
I have one question in my country all wr250 have 30 hp and if i look online it says every where that tge bike has 30 hp withoud mods how is that ?
Most likely crank hp, not wheel.
30 horse power? You are getting into DR650 territory. I am listening. I have a DR. But I have converted to a Adventure bike. Now I need something lighter for single track with DR maintenance free.
then the wr250r is your bike...
I can say just from watching video wr250r much lighter maneuvering and better balanced than drz400 plus better gearing. No way you can do riding so slow in the middle of the bush without clutching like crazy on drz
I need cheap plastics for this bike that are available to Australians, preferably black or white
Just look up the years that had black or white plasics and order the oem plastics for that year bike, they all fit the same. That's what I did!
Cyclecruza do you know if DRZ400 E can be a dual sport or is it offroad only thanks
I mean do I need a DRZ400 S or SM for Dual sport purposes thanks
Get the dual sport version, much more versatile. You can always add SM wheels if you want.
is the E a dual sport? Or only the S?
I found a mint 2008 low miles 4000 miles I had the shock rebuilt $280.00 new chain sprockets antifreeze changed new tail light got rid of the ugly stock one love the bike now the rear shock is a pogo stick not good
I just got a 2020’wr250r with 400 miles. It’s a sick little bike
@@Tampa_tom yeah it’s my favorite bike love it I wish they would make a WR 350 now lol
I’m 5’6. Is this bike too high for me?
I ride an R6 and can ride it fine. Is this bike way taller?
Yeah it's taller, 37" seat height but you can get a lower seat. Don't worry about how tall a bike is tho, learn to ride it and you will be fine. There is a little chick who rides a tall dirt bike supermoto and she is 5'3" and she wheelies like a beast.
Thanks for the response Cyclecruza
Bvaahahahaaa to funny bro, hey keep up da good work and give us some sliiiding action👍
Have you driven a DRZ400? Why didn't you wheelie in this video?
hi cyclecruza i f i buy a wr250r and saty in stock whats the top speed on road??
70-75mph
it goes +85 without a problem but after 75, the bikes starts shaking due to it's weight and height(also due to it's no wind blocking design) so it is not very smart move to ride it after +75.
Iv notice that every time people who change gas tanks the bike always look so ugly why is that?
6:24 SWERVE ACTION...GOOD LOOKIN OUT!
Fuel injection is way better than carburetor. Maybe it can be installed for $1500!
Is it true Yamaha is discontinuing the WR250R?
yeah BUT maybe Yamaha has something new and sick in the works...
WR450R OMG!!!??
Has Yamaha sent you any freebies yet? If not, you better get 'em soon! You are making me wanna buy a WR250R, and I have recommended WR250R to my coworker who is currently looking for a dual-sport bike.
They should! lol It's a keeper for sure.
