    Going to have to try that. I struggle with my bow flying all over the place.

    This is the smartest and easiest advide I have found so far. Thank you SO much!
    And while I am here, is there any special techniques to play the G-string? I have such hard times getting a clean sound from it, especially when I use fingers. The best way to describe it is I find it a bit.. muddy? I can't seem to figure out if I need to bow harder or lighter or if there is some sort of magic trick to it. I have asked a few friends of mine who also said that the G string was tricky but when they got it it was amazing. But I can't seem to figure out how to use it properly =) Again thanks for the advice, and thanks in advance if you ever have the time to answer!

    Thank you profV for these free videos. I started watching your videos 11 years ago. Now i'm teaching them to people with balance between fun and boring technique grinding(at least for people who didn't have to unlearn 10 months worth of playing). Now i'm a technique nerd. But i and the world can't thank you enough. Thanks again!

    56 yo. Started 2 weeks ago. I have been frustrated the past couple of days, about the sound, the screeching. This seems to have some of my issues. I’m so excited

    • @professorV
      @professorV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good luck with your studies, Mike. Be patient with yourself and give it time. Using small bows at first is a good way to start, and should help control the screeching you’ve mentioned. You can expand the length as you gain control. Good luck!

    Thanks Professor V., I will direct my pupils to this video. I have used standing against the wall to help bowing in the upper 1/2 by restricting the impact of the shoulder and focussing on movement from the elbow, but have not tried this one. It looks like a really good idea. Wonky bowing seems to be worse with viola students. I think it is because they have more room, and the dampening effect of a diagonal bow seems to be a whole lot worse than on violin. Thanks again. for a great tip for such an important point.

    This is excellent. Do you have any tips for keeping the bow straight along the other plane, i.e., not dipping up and down?

  • @ilovemydog8825
    @ilovemydog8825 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    that feeling when you’re in the highest level orchestra in your school and can do vibrato yet you can’t play your bow straight

    • @professorV
      @professorV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Bean Sandwich, don’t feel bad, I get college students with this problem too. Being perfectly parallel to the bridge isn’t really the goal. What’s important is that the bow doesn’t drift towards the bridge or fingerboard unless you want it to. Watch your contact point while playing open strings to work on this. Best Wishes.

    When whole long and stiff bow by frosh sitting on oval formed cross in one, and moved in one, the cross, cross the rhytmic distances.

      Hi Mark, thanks. I play a violin made in 1995 by Jennifer Becker, who lives in St. Paul Minnesota. She comes from a family of violin makers and really knows her stuff. I’m a big fan.

    Dear professor, i would like to ask you a question concerning double stopping. When i play them, my bow tend to slide towards the fingerboard! Is there any tip to prevent this? Do i need more bow pressure or less in double stopping? Thanks!

    • @professorV
      @professorV  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Miguel, you have to push the bow out, or forward, a little on the down bow. Also, tilt the stick slightly away from you to compensate for the sloping string angle. If you watch your contact point, or the spot where the bow meets the string, you may be able to control the bow better. Hope that all makes sense. Good luck!
