  • This short film, narrated by Mark Tully, shows a glimpse of what life is like for one family living in the slum of Kamla Nehru Nagar (Bihar, central India).
Slum-dwellers are vulnerable. With no permanent roof over their heads, little prospect of a secure job and poor access to basic sanitation, bad health and social exclusion is rife. Children can become easy victims of crime, prostitution and child labour.
This video shows how preventable diseases take a huge toll on slum-dwelling families.

I've been to Thailand and The Philippines and seen similar conditions. I've sponsored a child through Children International for the last 11 years. Children International also does work in India. Solutions for poverty and economic disparity are a long way off, but don't let that stop anyone from helping one.

India is not the 4th largest economy, it's the 10th or 7th....and I don't think it will overtake US

When we send them money they don't preserve it though... They just have another millions of babies. Why have 5 babies if you can't look after yourself? I know they ain't been educated that much but come on, where is the common sense?
I think they should start making it so they can only have one kid, that way the population would go down. Burn the trash and rubbish and educate the kids about sex. How do we even know our money reaches these people? I know its harsh but its true.

They have so many children because they can't afford contraception. You're all so cruel to these people who literally have nothing.

well our concept of poverty is different. Our societies are not that crafty as the Scandinavians ,there fore we never hard furniture(as there was no need for it due to the warm climate),we never built great ships because we had agriculture,we are a different breed of people.
