    Having owned our van since August of this year we have found lots of useful things but our latest must have is the Karcher window vac for all that pesky condensation we get at this time of year (December). If you wipe condensation off your windows with a cloth or a sponge you are only relocating the moisture not getting rid of it, when you use the window vac you can empty the contents outside of the van.

    • @LiveforTravel
      @LiveforTravel  ปีที่แล้ว

      We have seen them yes. We don’t tend to have much condensation at all but agree that would be better than a sponge.

    I have also experienced the problem of having a ehu lead that is too short, so would definitely recommend a longer lead. The ridge monkey is brilliant, I baked a pie in mine last weekend. The inflatable solar lantern looks excellent, but I might have to save some pennies first.

    • @LiveforTravel
      @LiveforTravel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am always happy to say when I get something wrong and with the EHU lead I naively thought 10 metres would be easily enough. Then, first camping trip, it wasn’t! The lanterns are not cheap but they are bright and last a good amount of time and like anything we all transport in our campers, caravans and Motorhomes space is a factor. Many thanks for your comments and support 🙏

    Try two 10 metre cables plus a waterproof box for the join. This gives you flexibility when you need it but you don’t have to get out a heavy, cumbersome 20m cable every time you hook up.
    Internal extension cable? Get one with USB sockets included. Handy for recharging phones etc, and loads of gadgets use USB plugs.

    • @LiveforTravel
      @LiveforTravel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your suggestions. That is a good idea. I will look at the junction boxes. 🙏👍

    • @DoctorFish10
      @DoctorFish10 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why do you need the waterproof box, the 16A plug/socket is OK on its own, you don't add a waterproox box to the hookup socket - do you?

    • @broadsword6650
      @broadsword6650 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good question. Some might consider it overkill but there are good reasons to use one.
      Normally, the plugs/sockets are kept elevated, either into a mains bollard or into the side of the van, and in that position are designed to shed rain. They aren’t usually left lying around in wet grass or even puddles, which could be the case for a join between cables. I wouldn’t trust them to be waterproof in those circumstances, and I wouldn’t want to electrify the ground, either!
      It also makes the connection more obvious, to mitigate against trip hazard, and more secure if someone does trip over the cable.

  • @paulcowan3222
    @paulcowan3222 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If you are going to increase your power cables to 20mtr don't buy a 20mtr length buy 2x10 saves you having loads of spare cable outside and 2x10 are easier to store than 1x20 mtr. I have 3 cables 1x10, 1x15 and 1x20 and I have written on the plug how many paces each one is in length to make it easier to pick right one. Don't leave cable wrapped around a reel as it can catch fire. Water tank cleaning I put half a tank of water and use the journey to site to slosh the water around to clean tank and flush on site using campsite water instead of ours. We have a toaster for gas hob basically wire mess and handle so you can toast without electricity. Try the pop up buckets to take clothes or dishes to amenity block. The microfiber clothes used for polishing vehicles are handy as a dry down of your body after a shower before using your towel, clothes are easier to dry than big towels. In toilet we use a battery powered led light stuck above toilet instead of van battery off site. 3aaa batteries last over 6 months. If leaving a campsite and doing a long drive use the campsite electricity to fill to flasks of boiling water use 1 to make a coffee half way and the other one to wash dishes when off grid. We use coffee sachets that have powdered coffee, milk and sugar, so stop for a break cups of coffee in 2 minutes.

    • @LiveforTravel
      @LiveforTravel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have put many great suggestions on here which ourselves and others can read. Personally, we now take just one 25m cable and are fine with this but absolutely agree whatever the length of cables used they must be unwound to ensure no fire risks. Thanks very much for watching the video and taking the time to add such an informative comment.

    Hi thanks for great&informative videos it's quite handy info even tho some is common sense really. Don't u think a generator of some sort would solve a lot of problems. I appreciate the feedback. Thanks sir🚒🚒

    • @LiveforTravel
      @LiveforTravel  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks. Yes generators are quite popular. It really depends on the usage. We typically do barely any off grid but if we were to do more than 2 nights at a time off grid we would probably invest.

  • @tooyoungtobeold8756

    Hook up cables are quite heavy when you are rolling them up. We have a 10 metre and a 15 metre, which can connect to make 25 metres. Unfortunately the CMC won't allow cables to be joined, but the CCC will. I store the shorter one above the battery, under the bonnet, along with a litre of oil and some screen was. You don't need a kettle, use a saucepan with a lid.

    • @LiveforTravel
      @LiveforTravel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they are quite heavy. We use CMC more so we are happy to keep 25m roll. We agree we don’t need a kettle but we like to use them, particularly when connected and paying for EHU. Thanks for watching.

    • @tooyoungtobeold8756

      With an awning the space is fine. However we found the lack of a bathroom became an issue and have now sold the van and purchased a Motorhome. Thanks for watching the video.

    Only just found your channel and really enjoyed as well as being useful. Just bought a 58 T5,(still not cheap),
    Could I ask how long you would leave the van charging on the drive/in garage?
    And can you overcharge if left on for too long?
    Thanks in anticipation, coincidentally just bought one of those oil fill radiators.
    Subbed as well.
    Cheers, David. 👍

    • @LiveforTravel
      @LiveforTravel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks 👍 With charging we assume you mean for the leisure battery. If the vehicle battery then a good intelligent charger can be left on until you use the van. For the leisure battery, Camper King recommended plugging the van in on Electric Hook Up for at least 24-48hrs every month. On EHU the van should control the charge as necessary but we always recommend checking with the conversion company as all vans differ. Thanks for your support.

      @@cheshirehomebrew that’s great thanks. Yes we sold the van in March 2020 for reasons discussed in later videos but the VW is definitely the best camper. We started in 2019 and were naive to all of it but as we used it more we learned and understood more about the pros and cons and we hope this gives viewers a way of finding out in easy to follow guides.
