Maybe I give it a try in the new year. Fashion is an interesting way to communicate as an introvert and gives me a lot of joy 🤩 And track cost by use/wear could be very satisfying or just interesting 🤔
I’ve been doing this for 15 months and will continue for a total of 2 years. I’d planned to stop after 1 year, but…. Pandemic 😷; I’ve found it a very useful exercise and have learnt so much.
It's astonishing to realize that even if you wear a piece of clothing once every week it's still going to be only 52 wears per year 🤯 makes one think what saying "I wear this a lot" really means...
Svetlana Dreher you are right, maybe we should have less clothes to really take advantange of using something over and over ( more than 52 weeks) and help the planet and our savings……., good point of view!!!
oh damn, you're so right! why hadn't i thought of that? there are deff some clothes i wear at least once a week. interesting! now i have to do this tracking.
52 wears is A LOT of wears! Many basic tee shirts won’t survive that many wears, especially if you wash every time you wear. I have one tee with over 60 wears and there are several holes. And it’s a nice organic cotton tee that I’ve never put in the dryer. So I agree with you in theory!! But in practice, that’s a lot of wear to put on an item of clothing.
Sure! It's a lot for a t-shirt, mine never last that long 😅 I was thinking mostly about videos I saw where people have their cost per wear down to like nothing and I'm wondering how is that even possible... For a t-shirt or a pair of jeans yes, but a shirt? This realization about 52 weeks in a year just made me think a lot about the numbers, that's all...
I am a college professor and I keep an outfit map, which involves writing up outfits for the coming week, fit for purpose, like big lectures or formal meetings versus tutorials and research days. It takes all the stress out and means no decision making in the morning, it’s ready to go. These are all tried and tested capsule outfits anyway, but it means I know what’s on high rotation, and a whole bunch of other data, for barely 5 mins input. Highly recommend. It just gives so much clarity. It also shows any gaps and that helps on the LowBuy track. ☺️
I've had clothes in my closet that I totally disliked but felt almost obligated to wear. Very liberating to declutter them. And I also am dressing up to go just about anywhere because I can and also want to wear my clothes.
I gave myself a challenge last year to wear every single shirt I own with the rule of not being allowed to wear something twice during this challenge. This experiment was a helpful way to figure out what to declutter (the shirts I was putting off wearing) and helped me appreciate every piece of clothing I had
You inspired me to track my own closet and it has been EYE-OPENING! I do it a bit differently but is something that I also want to do for at least a year. I am creating a capsule at the start of each month, and I am taking a daily picture and then uploading it to Pinterest. At the end of each month, I go over the photos and count what I wore. The most surprising thing is seeing pieces that by themselves I like but they just don't work on me for whatever reason. In a very self-loving way, I come to terms with the pieces that are for my ideal safe and then let go. Slowly but steadily I am realizing my style, taste, and making sure to have a closet of only things I love. CANNOT RECOMMEND IT ENOUGH! Thanks, Christina for the inspiration!
Honestly Christina, you really do create such quality content. The volume of your voice, music, the sound bites are all perfect. You strike such a great casual / quirky and quality balance. I actually enjoy listening to you. This is so rare! I feel like there is so much average content out there, but your work is so tight, professional and valuable. Keep going!!!!
I’ve been tracking for about 4 years with Stylebook and it’s been really helpful, especially looking at items not worn in the last year/six months/whatever. Ideally I’d love to get my pieces down to under a dollar a wear - super easy with the $6 thrifted pants but a bit harder with my more expensive blouses! Kind of makes me think about whether items like that would be worth it in the future’
Way late to the party, but I also have gotten a ton of value from Stylebook! It helps take the emotion out of determining what to keep in your wardrobe based on what you're actually wearing.
I tried this and it was so eye opening! I had pieces that I thought I wore all the time and would not declutter but when I tracked my outfits, I actually never wore them!
I really like the idea of tracking what you wear and at what frequence, but I'm not so sure it should be a definite criteria for throwing/putting away the clothes you own : it depends so much on the type of clothing amongst other thnigs... For example, I've got a pure wool sweater (the only oneI got!) that is so great when the weather is really cold. As I don't want to wash it too often, I wear it for a day, then I let it "dry out" for at least a week before wearing it again. And I try to wait for a very cold day to wear it again (but also, as it looks amazing, I wait for a day during which I'm able to "showcase" it, at least I don't wear it when I'm alone at home). I probably wore it like 8 times since the beginning of the cold season (I bought it in the summer), and I'm probably not going to wear it after march or april. so I will have worn it maybe 12 times at most throughout the year. But I am NOT getting rid of it !!!!! as I really love it, and it's just that I try to understand the materials and its characteristics and also kind of make it fit my lifestyle. As a general matter, I would love to see practical videos about clothing that talk about the weather, the logistics of washing up, how one articulates all that ? but all of this is just me rambling, I guess that depends on so many criterias, anyway, I found your video and idea very interesting and helpful, and might do some tracking in the future. thanks! EDIT : I just finished this video and I watched the "I Found My Personal Style Without Shopping", and I found that you kind of adress all of the things I was mentioning before., so thank you!
I would love to do this. I think just setting up the initial spreadsheet will cause me to purge half my clothes because I don't want to bother recording it on the sheet. I'm still clinging to my in-office/nice clothes even though my daily wardrobe is sweats and oversized tees. I also still have so many heeled shoes that are not practical at all. I just can't let go some of my clothes because of the one time a year i might wear it for a special occasion even though i have other clothes i could wear and still feel nice.
You could try to build a Capsule wardrobe and only add those items to the spreadsheet and you can add the rest of your clothes only of you wear them. That way you could se the items you wore the most, the ones you wore a few times and the ones that didn't even made the list! I hope that helps :)
I've been tracking for about 8 years. I find activities and weather affect what is worn year to year so you needed to track longer. The last 2 years haven't been typical. I think would wear skirts more in summer, but haven't found the right one. I'm inclined to buy duplicates of basics that I know I will wear and sometimes need to risk buying something I won't wear as much for interest and variety. Sometimes the quality of the item affects its wear or what I do, so if my Breton top is from a supermarket I will happily do the gardening in it, but not if it was expensive.
I would love to see a video all about t-shirts--they're one of the tougher things for me to shop for, because there's so many requirements I have in the perfect one!
I tracked everything I bought in 2021 and also tracked how much I wore it. I'm now going to reflect per month, a year later if these pieces were actually worth buying. I have learned so much from this!
Maybe it’s best to imagine cost for an item as time. Like you pay $50 for something to wear it how many times or however long throughout the year. This way, whether an item costs a little or a lot, you can learn what to buy based on quality p, not necessarily price or retail.
Yes! I tracked wears from 2015-2019 and learned SO much. All I track now is my favorite outfits, which helps me understand how pieces work together and what I really *enjoy* wearing. Wardrobe data is fun :)
Loved it! I used to do that with an app... I've tracked my wardrobe for years and obviously learned a lot like you.... it is crazy how the pieces that we use more are not necessarily pieces that make us feel our best. But they certainly say something about us and our lives. Now I am thinking about tracking my wardrobe again... lol
I’ve been tracking my wardrobe for four years 😊 love the data!! 😂 it totally helped me curb my impulse buys, because I see the exact things I actually decide to wear.
You are always inspiring... I think you are so right that you have to find your preferred style instead of trying every trend out there, but it is hard to be so focused with all the marketing we are bombarded with all the time.
It really is! I think buying trends are fine, but I think with the approach to keep them in our wardrobes and use even after the trend is “out”. I guess making trends timeless for you ❤️
As someone who has been working from home since the beginning of the pandemic, this wouldn't work for me. Tracking my clothes would likely cause guilt about not wearing my nicer work clothes, but I think it's important to hang onto them on the off chance my work starts requiring a hybrid model.
I agree. I'm working from home most of the time but we are starting to slowly come back to office and I finally get to wear my nicer work clothes again and it's great!
Next year we're starting renos in our apartment which we just bought. So I really need to get on top of my shopping habits. I find that I shop a lot or browse because my brain needs stimulation. Whenever I'll have the urge to shop while nursing baby or staying up rocking her, I'll make a point to work on creating the spreadsheet, and then I want to track for 6 months at least! This video got me thinking about numbers. I wonder how many times I wear items that I think I wear a lot 🤔
Christina! You just gave me a new year's resolution! So far I've done a tagging edit (all clothes tagged for a year. After the year, all clothes still w/a tag had to go), a year of no new buy, then a year of no buy, which didn't go so well... This will be a fascinating exercise. Thank you for sharing!
How about doing a video with your sister, contrasting and discussing your styles? That would be really interesting! I tracked my wardrobe for a couple of months and took a photo every day. I discovered that I wear different outfits practically every day, which was cheering. I have just decluttered six pairs of shoes though - you know, the absolutely beautiful ones that NEARLY fit... it hurt to say goodbye, but I'm now really happy to think that someone will will wear them and enjoy them. I also donated seven handbags because I never use them. I wish I'd done it ages ago! You've been a great help.
I'm not much of a numbers type of person, but kudos to you for doing this for an entire year! I do think it'd be a fun exercise to just categorize my most worn items so that I can get a better idea of what it is I like and why. Thanks for sharing, and I'd love to see more style content like this! 😊
Spreadsheet downloaded and ready to go! My main challenge is that I'm still working from home (Ireland only lifted all restrictions a few months ago and many haven't return to the office) so there are tons of clothe that aren't getting worn because regular life hasn't resumed. BUT, I think this is going to teach me a lot about myself and my wardrobe. Thank you
Definitely inspired to track my wears- thank you for sharing your experiment/ experience. I thought I needed to declutter but this totally makes me believe tracking is necessary first.
I'm surprised by the number of times you wore things. I have way more clothes than you and I feel like I have worn my clothes way more times in the year than you did 🤔 This video reaeeeallly made me want to do this. Am I fooling myself into thinking I use things more than I do?! 😱
I’ve been tracking for the last 4 months and it has already been super eye opening! Thanks for the idea and template. I’m so excited to see what it’ll look like after 1 year :)
Oooo yes a video about what you look for in t-shirts would be helpful! Just hearing that type of thinking helps me, because I'm trying to really learn how to evaluate pieces well when I try them on before buying.
I used your spreadsheet for the first 6 months of 2021 then stopped, but I agree with all the things you mentioned - it really helps justify decluttering the items you never wear! I think I might update my inventory and try to track again this year :)
I’ve been taking pictures of what I wear since August! That’s my form of your spreadsheet. However, I do want to track it on the spreadsheet so that I can rank it by numbers instead of having to look through my pictures every time ☺️
You said 23 times in a year was not seeming like a lot but TBH there are 52 weeks in a year and I basically do laundry once a week. So if I wore something 23 times it would mean I wore it almost half of the weeks in a year.
Obsessed with “cost/wear” in my closet. Anyone have recs for a good closet tracking or inventorying app? Love the simplicity of a spreadsheet, but find it helpful to also include pics for styling and inventory purposes.
I have never tracked my wardrobe but have started taking inventories. Now you have tracked are you going to start planning outfits? By planning you make conscious efforts to wear all that you have and love.
Wow, this experiment is very interesting. When you see numbers compared with a total of days in a year you realized how truly you used your clothes. I used to put the hungers back and if I use a piece I put the hunger normally, so I new if I used or not certain clothes. But this method is more exact. Although for me a little difficult to follow. Bye
I just wanted to say that i discovered your channel this summer and loved it ever since. You are my favorite youtuber, and you helped me so much to not buy as much things as i used to, i completely transformed and decluttered my wardrobe and i love it now, Like never before! Watching your videos make me feel Like a I am talking with dear friend that I’ve known for years. You are so genuine. I am always looking forward to your videos, they always made my day! 😇☺️ so thank you for your work!🥰
I know exactly what you mean about most worn but not the best piece of clothe.. I was thinking about it a lot, and often when I wear the easiest piece i wear them over and over and just forget about clothes I like more, which looks more beautiful on me, so I generally agree with you a lot;)
I have been tracking my wardrobe for two years now and it has been eye opening + the way I shop has changed A LOT. Now I buy maybe one a bit more expensive and higher quality item per month, instead of multiple cheaper items. Also, I never buy things spontaneously, because I have a wishlist of clothing & accessories that I want, to make sure I really want them and that they go with my style. I am currently on a challenge not to buy any new clothes (unless I absolutely need to) until my trip to Paris in July. BUT there is also a downside, because tracking my wardrobe has somehow given me major anxiety to get the cost per wear to a lower number, whenever I buy something new. 😅
Great video Christina - I really love your style content. Has this round up motivated you to declutter further, so that you only own your 'favourite' items? I have got to that point now, and I love the fact that everything I have is a favourite? The vests/t-shirts discussion is an interesting one. I used to have lots but I now have 4 navy, 2 red, 2 merino, and 2 camis and that is perfect for me. I have considered tracking my wardrobe but I often wear the same things all week and worry I would forget to track! Please keep the style videos coming - you do them brilliantly. Thank you! Kim-Marie
Thanks for this video Christina. Recently I've been mentally taking note of what I reach for. Not doing a spreadsheet, but just an idea and I've also come to the conclusion that I reach for things that are practical but that I don't necessarily like anymore. Once upon a time I loved them but they are worn or I've just grown out of the style ie. scrunch bum leggings >.< Part of me wants to get rid of some of my party/cocktail dresses because I don't have events for them anymore, but the other part of me is like "but what if?"
@@Christinamychas even though I’ve only done it for a couple of months, it made me see that because I have so many pieces in my wardrobe, nothing (especially clothing) really gets worn as often as I think it does. Shoes and bags get repeat wears, but clothes… not really! I’m doing a capsule now as an experiment!
Yeaaaa more style stuff! I missed it a bit, though I enjoy them all! Edit : as a long-time user of Poshmark, I felt compelled to try selling with the app after you talked about how easy it was... and I've been blown away by how much I've sold so effortlessly in the past couple of months! Thanks for the jumpstart!
I enjoy the style content and yes, I would track my wardrobe, however, I live in Melbourne and we are officially the city to spend the most time in lockdown, so my wardrobe has been hoodies and activewear for two years.
I really like you content. It's great! I need to track my wardrobe. Totally unrelated but I love your dog's tattoo , it's so sweet! I'm gonna get one of my dog (I already got two for my cats) l💞
How do you avoid wearing an item only because you see that you haven’t tracked it much? So rather then genuinely choosing the item you re picking it specifically for your spreadsheet. - if that makes sense
I didn’t really consult my tracker before getting dressed if that makes sense! I wore what I felt like daily and would only really review at the end of each month while prepping for the next. I would notice that I wasn’t wearing certain things, so Id try to wear it the next month but didn’t really force myself to. I really tried to stick to what I get like wearing rather than bc of pressure from the numbers. It helped with the decluttering more I think!
I track my wardrobe and I find myself wearing the items that I know I haven’t worn, since I know I haven’t written it down yet. It often works to my advantage though, because wearing it makes me see the reasons I don’t like to grab it and it makes it easier to declutter!
@@Christinamychas thankyou so much I'm hoping on doing a no spend year (on clothing, shoes, jewlery and accessories) in 2022 as I've spent the last 2 years 'perfecting' my minimalist wardrobe and hoping to use your tracker template to put it to the test
I try to wear these 3 times and make them a different colour on the sheet. I have a columns for comments about how the outfit looked and felt, where what I wore it for, and weather. If it isn't working for 3 different circumstances it's probably time to get rid of it.
Oof - I realize this video is a month old now but I wasn’t able to find your favorite Babaton tee in your links - it took me to the everlane tank or the group tee - is it the group tee? Thanks!! Looking for a good t-shirt!
I hate the sheer ones too. Decades ago I could buy sturdy cotton t-shirts that were completely opaque and lasted for years despite numerous washings. I can't find them now.
I love all of your videos and appreciate your organizational skills. I have been in the mood to declutter my wardrobe in the past year and the information you share is very helpful and inspiring!
that's interesting, I have 2 white t-shirts from Everlane and they're NOT see through at all, even had a black bra on and you couldn't see it at all, I did hesitate before but there was no need to. maybe it's rather because of the material, I don't use "normal" bras but more like Sport bras
What I do is every birthday I turn all my hangers with the C facing my direction. On my next birthday, whatever hanger is still facing me, I re evaluate the piece. Two times I find the hanger facing me, I trow it away.
T-shirts can be such a pain in the caboose. Does it fade, will it lose it’s shape, will the stain come out…lol 😂 But we love them. I wear my black Universal Standard T a whole lot even though I live in Hades 🏜🥵🌵💛
i totally struggle with my fantasy self ... i love boho styles but i usually want to wear a black target tank and a cream or camel colored cardigan ... how many cardigans can i have haha
This is soo wild. I think I am going through this process every day in my head, because I only want to own what I really use every day :) I get choice-fatigue around clothes and it's just not worth it :)
Great idea! I did count my wardrobe and stopped when I hit 500😫I really need to get a hold on my closet, makeup and skincare . Help!!! Thanks for encouraging me
Girl, same. I heard 300 items and was like 🥴😬😰😩 My goal for 2021 is to declutter my house, with my closet being the most daunting task. I’ve been avoiding it because it’s about 100x’s more exhausting than any other project. Here is to us decluttering our stuff! 🙌🤜😃
@@kimberlymeheran7013 time, materialism, not staying on top of decluttering….a whole host of reasons. But we can change it! Christina has been an awesome resource, too. ☺️

I did track mine for about two months using your spreadsheet. It was quite enjoyable to watch the cost per wear drop every time I wore an item.

Love the idea of tracking my “wears”. I’m going to try this starting Jan 01, 2022. Thanks for the spreadsheet!
Yes! More style content bc I think I’ve finally found someone who aligns w my style the most! Thank you!!!
This is so cool that you did this Christina! This is something I can see myself doing in the future. Thanks for the link to the Google sheet too! ❤️
I would love a video on what you look for in T-shirts, especially the core basic ones like white and black!
YES! Definitely digging the style content and since I'm also in the same country + province it's super relatable! Keep 'em coming, xx
Yay! I’m vibing with it more lately so happy to! Stay warmies!
Winter wear video .....heck yeah from Northern British Columbia ❤ and your skin looks so beautiful and glowing! Cheers
Oh my thank you! Winter essentials coming next week!
You inspired me to do this for 90 days! I'm on day 74 and it's SO interesting~ Thanks Christina!! :)
I am thinking about starting next year. This is great!
Bye
The idea of tracking is really appealing. I love a good list. And I would love to see a T-shirt video!
😇☺️ so thank you for your work!🥰
*5 things to quit right now:*
*1. Overthinking*
*2. Trying to make everyone happy*
*3. Living in the past*
*4. Worrying*
*5. Doubting yourself*
Yes plz to winter essentials and tshirts!
Comin’ up!
Thank you! Kim-Marie
It would be interesting to see which items you wore the least or if there were any pieces you didn’t wear at all. :)
Ahhhh I decluttered them tho! 😭😭
Yes, I enjoy your style content. Especially if you include hair and makeup as part of style.
Yay! Will include more 🥰
👍🏼 thumbs up for the effort of tracking alone! I’ve recently been tracking my wears as well, and it’s wild how illuminating that raw data can be.
It really helped me get past my own BS! Haha
As someone who loves getting into data, I'll start doing this. Thanks for the idea!
I enjoy the style content and yes, I would track my wardrobe, however, I live in Melbourne and we are officially the city to spend the most time in lockdown, so my wardrobe has been hoodies and activewear for two years.
your mom’s jeans ☺️so sweet
This was SO interesting, thank you! 🖤 Lisa
I love your style content so much!!!
I have my T-shirts colour coordinated (obvs) in fact I have everything colour and style coordinated 👍🏼
I really love your videos! Happy Holidays!!
I love this idea ! Will try this out next year 😊
I really like you content. It's great! I need to track my wardrobe. Totally unrelated but I love your dog's tattoo , it's so sweet! I'm gonna get one of my dog (I already got two for my cats) l💞
It’s my favourite ❤️
I have the non jogger on the fly! And the Aligns! Both my faves too. :)
Oops! I’ll fix that! The black one is the babaton group foundation tee!
I’m here for a tshirt video! Short sleeve, long, turtleneck, tanks!
I love this experiment!
need a white tee video for sure. i hate the sheer ones
I hate the sheer ones too. Decades ago I could buy sturdy cotton t-shirts that were completely opaque and lasted for years despite numerous washings. I can't find them now.
Uniqlo makes really thick white tees. Its a japanese brand and the quality is great. Sizing is a little small but worth checking out!
@@danaberries Thank you!
I love all of your videos and appreciate your organizational skills. I have been in the mood to declutter my wardrobe in the past year and the information you share is very helpful and inspiring!
So glad!
that's interesting, I have 2 white t-shirts from Everlane and they're NOT see through at all, even had a black bra on and you couldn't see it at all, I did hesitate before but there was no need to.
maybe it's rather because of the material, I don't use "normal" bras but more like Sport bras
What I do is every birthday I turn all my hangers with the C facing my direction. On my next birthday, whatever hanger is still facing me, I re evaluate the piece. Two times I find the hanger facing me, I trow it away.
Really enjoyed this video, new to your channel!
Thank you so much for being here! ❤️
I’ve been tracking my wardrobe since Jan 2021 and have also gotten quite some insights!
Interesting how what you thought you were wearing most often wasnt always the case. Great video. Ps: the Acne moto (chefs kiss 😘)
I would love a T-shirt video 😍 Personally looking for the perfect cropped t shirt in bl and wh
This was super interesting ✨
i love ur personality and all ur videos :)
Loved this. Thank you 🖤
I also track my clothing. I think +20 wears is a lot, my most worn pieces are also +20
T-shirts can be such a pain in the caboose. Does it fade, will it lose it’s shape, will the stain come out…lol 😂 But we love them. I wear my black Universal Standard T a whole lot even though I live in Hades 🏜🥵🌵💛
Hades! Lolll!
@@Christinamychas 😂😂😂
I love these! I would totally track my wardrobe
Yes to tshirt video!!
Yay! Can do 🥰
Yes, tee shirt video
Would love to see you add more styling content again
i totally struggle with my fantasy self ... i love boho styles but i usually want to wear a black target tank and a cream or camel colored cardigan ... how many cardigans can i have haha
I think that this is great what you did ❤️
I have the Align leggings but I remove the pills with a pill remover! Good as new
did you use to work at camh? I worked there from 1996 to 2017 mostly on units 1-4 1-5
This is soo wild. I think I am going through this process every day in my head, because I only want to own what I really use every day :) I get choice-fatigue around clothes and it's just not worth it :)
**Uniqlo puffer now on my Wishlist for upcoming winter** I hope it lasted you well!
It is shocking. Including footwear and coats, i have 416. 😩. I’m working at eliminating.
@@Future-zx9ts how did we ever get to this point 😳
@@kimberlymeheran7013 time, materialism, not staying on top of decluttering….a whole host of reasons. But we can change it! Christina has been an awesome resource, too. ☺️
Your eyebrows look good
Honestly, can't believe a year has passed since you made the tracking video.
I got rid of everything but my black and grey shirts
Love it!
I love the Everlane pants. It’s a shame that they are sold out.
I’m on that hill, too! Leggings are pants, Nerr.
