I think the phrase "BTS paved the way" is mostly related to the US music industry. I wonder how many people in the US general public know about Seo Taiji? Psy certainly put K-pop on the map, but did he pave the way for other Korean artists who followed after him? How many K-pop groups were successful in the US between Psy and BTS? It was after BTS entered the US market that other groups started to become known and gain success in the US.
This is a conversation between Suga of BTS and Hoshi of Seventeen (who debuted two years after BTS) on Suga's talkshow, "Suchwita".
Suga: So, you were on tour a little while ago? Right?
    Hoshi: Yes.
Suga: You were in Japan, and the States? Right?
Hoshi: Yes. Thanks to you we have a lot more promotions in the States now.
Suga: How's that thanks to us? It's because SEVENTEEN is so good.
Hoshi: But you really created the environment. Honestly, we were only able to go on American TV shows because of you.
Suga: No, it was because everyone did well in their own ways. I don't really think we did anything.
Hoshi: No, you need to know that you did. You created that environment for us. Everyone knows that the K-pop industry was able to advance into the States because of BTS.
Suga: But I think people got there based on their own talents. It was SEVENTEEN's own skills and talents that got you there. I don't really think we had any part in that. I guess we opened it up a little, but what happened after that wasn't based on anything we did. We just opened the door a little.
Hoshi: You... You did a lot more... than just open the door...
Suga: No, we didn't really. But thanks for saying that.
Hoshi: I bet everyone thinks that though.
Suga: Thanks for that. I'm really touched. Thanks for saying that.
Hoshi: But really everyone does really think that.

There are a few "paved the way" vids with different angles:
bby gang mag may be your best bet as he explains it well. "How BTS paved the way" (he also proves that global point)
boracity magazine is a little more angry but she sums it up with different points: "bts paved the way, why is it so hard to accept it?"
Asian Entertainment and Culture has multiple vids to that theme and you search for it on the channel - the last was a rather careful explained vid why BP didn't really
boracity also one why most Army don't like Kpop...where she puts in some numbers that are beathtaking in difference
It's rather complex and a personal favorite is not the same as people creating bigger history - BTS did.
For example they are the global recording artist (IFPI) globally in 2020 and 2021 and placed second last year.
They are also the only artist on Legacy Lab's Legacy Makers 100 Brand ranking.
BTS made a lot of hinstory. 💜

They are not only incredible artists, but they are amazing ppl as well. I found BTS first and after some time I decided to try other groups and it is not the same imo. None of them clicked for me. Correct me if I'm wrong but did you say it wasn't about numbers that BTS have but then went on to say Stray Kids were breaking all kinds of records at the moment. Like you said your entitled to your own opinion on who you like and prefer to listen to the most, but music taste isn't about being who is better than who. You are comparing Stray kids to everyone else because they are the only ones you have really learned about. You shouldn't be forced into reacting to certain groups but if you want to broaden your horizon on K-pop then it maybe beneficial just to check out other k-pop groups music and their stories behind them. You may find some surprises on the way whilst still liking to listen to Stray kids.

I guess my argument for BTS being the kings of Kpop is that because without them kpop would still be a niche interest and other groups would not be given the platform they have now to promote themselves to the english music industry and be as worlwide as they are. BTS's contributions to kpop idols and labels has indisputably never been done before or since, specially when you consider how they were never afforded the connections groups from the big 3 (SM, YG, JYP) had/have, THEY MADE THEMSELVES FROM NOTHING.
You can like one group more than the other (and that may very well be bc of how little you know abt one but it doesn't really matter, we like what we like), but if we're going to determine the "kings" by how significant a group is to kpop, it's not even funny how far from BTS other kpop groups are, I'm sorry.
th-cam.com/video/nqRZVvTE35E/w-d-xo.html This is an amazing video that explains what I mean in more depth. If you have time, even if just to watch on your own time.

    • @secretyidentity2833
      @secretyidentity2833 ปีที่แล้ว +33

@@AMetalheadsPerspective I mean, like I said, it kinda depends what we're qualifying for the tittle "kings", are they ALL talented, hard working and deserve their praises? Yes. If that's your metric then sure, they are all kings. But if we're going by " how significant a group is to kpop" like I said before, it's not even close. Doesn't mean anything necessarily bad abt other groups. And BTS are a LOT older than Stray Kids, who knows what the future holds, but in my personal oppinion, it's practically impossible to surpass what BTS has done. So to me, they are, against all odds, the kings of KPOP.
I think we should do well by giving credit where credit is due, just like BTS honors those who came before them (like Seo Taiji and Shinwa and countless american hiphop artists who inspired them) I think it's only fair to give them the credit for all they've done for kpop with the tittle of "Kings".

I agree if opinions are stated as opinions then it's stupid to respond, if you say "they're the kings for me" or "they are my kings" then there's really nobody that should respond. But if you'd have a big title "THEY ARE THE KINGS OF KPOP" as an statement/fact. I'd you're now influenced by your audience because they're mostly Kpop fans, and having those clickbaits would amuse them. (nothing wrong with clickbaits)
From our perspective: BTS were bullied by Kpop fans and the industry for many many many years, and to this day. We'll always be protective when it comes to the boundary between BTS and Kpop.
To give an example: in 2018 BTS were the very first Korean artist to be nominated for a Billboard Award. You'd think all Kpop fans would be happy for a Korean win. But fans of other Kpop groups gathered to vote for Justin Bieber instead, trying to make BTS lose. So you'd get an idea of how segregated the Kpop fandoms really are. It's sad, and we really don't want this but there's still a lot of hostility from other fans towards BTS for doing well.
We, BTS ARMY, will always be a nice, welcoming but tough audience. We've been around here for 10 years, and we've supported BTS that were underdogs and aliens to the industry. So we've been through a lot with them and we feel very deeply for all they've been through to be where they are today.
And you're new so you wouldn't know, but it'd be cool if you'd try to understand from our point of view as well. We'll also respect it if you're not looking for a tough audience, no heart feelings!
But even if you won't do BTS reactions, please do dive into their music! It's too good to not listen to. Their discography is so extensive and all so heartwarming, it honestly improved my way of life.

The singers you mentioned from Seo Tai-ji to Big Bang are also great singers, but they have not made K-pop enter the world as full-fledged as it is now. In my personal opinion, I don't care at all what group you like the most but I don't think you've listened to enough boy groups to label a group as "kings of kpop". Stray kids is your favorite right now which is understandable, they're my favorite 4th gen group but they're the only boy group you've given a fair shot to so I don't think its fair for you to label them the kings of kpop especially sense in kpop at least, when someone is labeled a queen or king, they're usually groups that was trendsetters and paved the way for other groups, example: 2ne1, bts, blackpink, twice, exo, big bang, girls generation. Stray Kids are considered the kings of 4th generation, but kpop wouldnt be near as big as it is without bts so thats why people get mad. I think the hate is ridiculous, they cant ever just talk about it. Anyways sorry if I sounded rude, I really wasn't tryna be, I'm just giving you my opinion about the situation, I meant no harm by it, Great reaction by the way.

@@AMetalheadsPerspective I think I understand where you are coming from! You said it to express your love for Straykids which is completely fine. But in my personal opinion, even if we use the phrase subjectively to express our love for a group, we are supposed to label someone/some groups as king or queen only after we have given a fair chance to other groups. That's when we can talk about justifying our position on the basis of our personal taste in music. I would still have reservations about the title you used, i.e. "King of K-pop" precisely because it implies an objective opinion whether you meant it or not. And especially in an industry with the kind of "toxic" competition that K-pop has, and given all that BTS and ARMY had to go through for 10 long years to be where they are today just because they didn't happen to come from a big label like say Stray Kids or Blackpink, I can understand how it can rub some ARMYs the wrong way! I am sorry if I sounded rude. I really didn't mean to. I also apologize on behalf of ARMYs who might have unintentionally hurt you! I shall look forward to more BTS content here!💜💜

@@AMetalheadsPerspective Saying "STRAY KIDS KINGS OF KPOP" is such a huge matter, especially since you form it as a statement, not an opinion.
The KPOP Industry does not take anything lightly since Kpop is such a very very competitive industry.
And besides, you don't know how much BTS contributed to the Kpop Industry.
      You've heard of G-IDLE right?
New Jeans, Le Serrafim, Seventeen, Enyphen, etc.
They are from HYBE labels, and the HYBE labels wouldn't have existed without BTS,
Cause BTS is literally the sole reason why ( "HYBE" the biggest label in Kpop Industry currently) exist.
In most cases it's the Big label or company that makes Kpop groups big, but in BTS, it's the other way around.
They are literally like the founder but also the shareholder of Hybe.
Also you like Straykids music right? And also other bands who also write and produce their music like G-IDLE, Seventeen and GOT7
      Guess what?
Before BTS, writing and producing your music is not even a thing in Kpop.
      But you know something funny?
Most Kpop fans are so proud that their current Stans and favs write and produce their music and of course the Kpop idols gets praised for that.
But when that happened to BTS, they only got ridiculed and get laughed at cause they are so poor that they can't even hire producers and writers of their own.
And now that BTS has become so big and successful, now they claim BTS are too prevelidge and they don't deserve their fame cause other Kpop group now also write and produce their music even though some of those groups only contributed a little bit in the production and writing process.
But anyways, back then BTS got laughed at cause they're called one of the ugliest Kpop group. But now Kpop stans say BTS only have lots of fans because of their looks.
Their double standards is really something else.
If BTS won an award, Kpop fans would hate on BTS cause they think BTS aren't letting this other Kpop groups a chance. But if BTS wouldn't win an award, they'd also laugh at BTS.
Anyways, BTS has done a lot to Kpop Industry, even creating lots of Kpop trends and even taking Kpop globally but people would just disregard BTS.
But what's more infuriating is, the Kpop Industry itself never contributed anything to BTS success, instead that f*cking industry is BTS main obstacle from the very beginning.
But now that f*cking industry gets to free ride due to BTS success.
Because people would just label BTS as KPOP
And Black Pink and other Kpop groups gets to pretend they are close to BTS by creating lots and lots of articles and exaggerating their accomplishments while also downplaying BTS accomplishments so it would look like they are nearly the same label.
Heavy promotions like ads for other Kpop acts are everywhere, in TikTok, TH-cam, etc. But I've been a fan of BTS since a long time, but I've never seen an ad from them before, but if it were other groups, their promotional vids or newly released vids would just pop in my newsfeed but in BTS case, I still need to search for it myself.
Not to mention how BTS views in TH-cam gets constantly deleted but other Kpop groups views are perfectly fine. 🙃
They just gets sabotaged everywhere and it's no longer surprising.
No matter whether it's BTS from the past or now, they've always been the outcast and constantly been mistreated.
And if this mistreatment happens to your fav group, how will you react?

You're very new in the scene, so ofcourse we understand. But we have deep passion for BTS and their carreer, and many artists in the Kpop industry do too. They're Korea's national treasures, so I hope you're open to finding out more about BTS. 😊
You also can't take away Micheal Jackson's title of king of pop. It's not based on numbers, it's just an overal consesus and it's also not a title to discredit anyone else. Even the boys of Stray Kids have many times credited and thanked BTS for paving the way and saying they're their rolemodels.
Beyond numbers, BTS have had a positive influence over the Korean industry and its artists. It used to be a lot more toxic and artists had less rights and control over their carreer. It's even partly thanks to BTS that Stray Kids have so much creative freedom. And the boys of Stray Kids will agree too.

I am saying this with all due respect to everyone involved
if it weren´t for BTS you wouldnt even be here knowing A group by the name of Stray Kids even exists They would be an internationally(in the west) unnown kpop band. Even just the fact that you can go to Target and buy their album is thanks to ARMYs who spent years campaigning for US stores to carry BTS albums, so their purchases would be eligible for Billboard charts (around 2016-2017 timeline), Now there is a whole subsection of Kpop to be found there.
The fact that Stray kids get to go to US evening talkshows is thanks to BTS and their insane level of social network engagement that prompted TV networks to invite other kpop groups as well...that is what ´´paving the way´´ means.
I love that some other commenter mentioned King of pop MJ. Is he everyone´s cup of tea and absolute favourite singer of all time? of course not. Yet his status as the king of pop is universally acknowledged. BTS are at that level...unquestionably. In 30 years they will be mentioned in the same sentence as MJ, Queen and Beatles, not Stray Kids, Big Bang, Exo or Psy. How do I know that? b/c they already are.
Good luck to Stray Kids, they are, by all accounts, very good. I wish them a loyal growing fanbase and also I wish their stream numbers and concert attendance to match their album sales.

As the meaning itself was never about the music but more so on the exposer that was brought to kpop itself. BTS and other Korean artist/ groups made impact in kpop today. And stray kids and other 4ths/5th gens will do the same. BTS will always be remembered for the impact and exposer that they have brought to kpop. They did make the biggest indent and that credit will never be taken away. But time will go on and there will be groups that will also make their own impact in some way shape or form!

BTS is like carrying the K-pop industry. They paved the way for other K-pop groups to be known globally, especially in the West. K-pop is really popular here in Asia. I have been a fan of GG/SNSD, a decade ago here in the Philippines, that is when BTS debuted but I thought of them as another rookie group and never thought they would conquer the world lol. Now that BTS entered the scene became known globally, K-pop became like an acquaintance and familiar to mainstream people, rather than "weird" music because it is a different language and style.

Your journey into learning about KPOP groups will be interesting to watch...Most profoundly, I think you will discover several major things. The term "King Of....." will have different connotations in different culttures and languages.... those who have expressed very negative commentts to you about your musical tastes and current favoritism of one or two bands Over BTS, may NOT actually be BTS ARMY (fans of BTS).... true BTS fans really do not attack other fandoms, however, once in awhile, reaction viewers will pretend to be, and create a lot of negativity in the false guise of being a fan..... and perhaps the most profound discovery you'll make. irreguardless of the way you currently view BTS through this video, is that with a discography of over 300+, you'll find that the messages in their songs, are most unique. Their rise to success within these past 10 is such a fascinating story, and most reactors have been finding themselves discovering this in their own time.

I think it's ok to have a different opinion and everybody have different tastes. I just started to listen to kpop again recently and GOT7 was the first group that got me into kpop again. I also started listen to BTS and loved their music. But also loved their story and how they got so far from nothing, that's really impressive. Those are the 2 groups that I love. I also tried to listen to other groups, but they just didn't got me yet, but there are some songs from others I also like and listen to. Stray kids is also a great group. Just seems to me like they do similar kind of music and not different genre (but just know some of their songs). But sure those songs are also really good and the members are very talented, also heard that they produce all this on their own. But for now I just like to discover more of the BTS songs, because there is so much to discover and they could be really different and also love their lyrics with deep meaning that sometimes touch my heart and make me cry, also so much story telling is going on there. So they are maybe my favorite group now. They deserved all the success.

I had written a bigass comment on the whole title thing discourse, but TH-cam is terrible and didn't send it. Anyways, what I tried saying is: everyone has the right to their own opinion, but paving the way does not mean being the first to do something, when you talk about music now, you talk about globalization, and that goes for pretty much every other entertainment section. The 1st and 2nd generation idols didn't pave the way for the things they did because they were the first ones, but because they POPULARIZED it in Asia (specifically South Korea, Japan and China). So, when talking about the 3rd and 4th one, you have to analyze who did that as well. And BTS is the name that popularized not only the genre itself worldwide, but facilitated the entry of other kpop artists in the US market (which is the biggest music market in the world). And they continue to do so, even on their hiatus. Even the spread of kpop reaction channels itself is mostly due to BTS. So, when talking titles, BTS can't be even put in the same line with the other kpop groups anyways, because they got so extremely big, they are put in the same conversations as the impact The Beatles had. Without any doubt, their only competitors today are Coldplay and Imagine Dragons, and are, for sure, the biggest musical act to ever come out of South Korea, taking into consideration sales, tickets, worldwide reach, general public knowledge, critics, awards nominations and wins, streams, accolades in general and notoriety. Of course, you can think whatever you want because it's your opinion, and as I said, you're entitled to it, but considering that they are one of the biggest musical acts in the world right now, certainly in the top3 groups/bands, I understand why people got a little upset hahahahahaha don't worry though, always remember that we all can have different opinions and personal taste!

It's fine to like Stray Kids or any other artist/group, K-pop or otherwise. As you said, music is subjective. However, statistics are not. Breaking ONE record does not make any artist the king of anything - especially not an album sales record. BTS has earned the stature and accolades they have through years of very hard work, being belittled/mocked/ignored/bullied, by enduring racism, pushing boundaries, and being overall wonderful young men. Phrases like "Kings of K-pop" referencing a group that benefits from what BTS has done for K-pop as a whole are always going to be triggering for an ARMY. Some ARMY will ignore it for the ignorant statement that it is - and before I offend you I don't mean that in the way it might come across. I mean it in the true sense of the word - without knowledge. Some people will go on the attack over it (most of the time ARMY wouldn't claim those people.)
Having said all of this, though, if you don't understand why such a statement would be triggering, you don't know the history of BTS, nor do you understand the history of ARMY versus other fandoms. You also know nothing about what BTS HAS actually achieved - especially compared to an act like Stray Kids.
I suggest you watch a BTS introductory video (Taylor Mari's is best), and then watch the Hardships video by xCeleste, before you watch any other BTS videos. Because honestly, the history you appear to be missing is a huge part of why BTS has the loyal fandom that it does...and why the fandom fights for BTS on a regular basis and doesn't much appreciate everything they have achieved to be knocked down with one achievement by another, junior, group.
In other words, you can call Stray Kinds YOUR Kings of K-pop, based on how much more you like them and their music/dance/performance...but on actual, true accolades/records/awards? Not even close. They have quite a ways to go for that.

It's the same as knowing who the king of rock is by comparing the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd and Queen it doesn't really make sense each of them is going to have brought something different and the greatness of one takes nothing away from the greatness of the other.

That's just not true bc the beatles, rollings stones, floyd were all global icons performing in sold out stadiums around the world. Meanwhile bts the only act that does that amongst those groups. (Not to discredit the other groups bc they do well in their own right, but they're just niche artists and not global icons ).Rather bts and e.g. coldplay are in the same category in this generation. I hope there'll be more asian or other nationalities artists that rise to actual global status instead of staying niche, and it'd be cool to see stray kids do that. But as of now, they're making small ripples with a niche audience and there's no movement in expanding that audience to stadium type of audiences.

Then I discovered BTS and after listening to a few of their songs, I realized the rappers and vocalists in the group are top tier. 💜 When we all first became to K-pop none of us did know _none_ of this either, we all had to learn the same things. 💜
Once Jimin was asked what he would say to debut era himself, and he said he would say to younger himself : "Hey Jimin, you nice, keep going." this is what I say to you: "You're nice, keep going." :) BTS is all about letting the haters brew in their own soup until they all wrinkly. You're not bad. i saw yesterday two so bad reactors they intentionally took out their bad days on their videos and called then "reactions"... You're absolutely awesome! Even with your - I hope accidental - times you trip on your tongue. I hope they are just moments that yout mind goes a bit farter than your tongue and one word that would make it all fine and supporting comment drops out and unfortunately makes it sound a bit like a diss. But those who jump on you for those Rare times, they have never messed up their words ? Never-ever? Yeah right, they surely have not! BTS has lines and songs for haters - we let their music to talk for us. You already know RM's line in Mic Drop "..hater you should love yourself, good luck." I take the last wish not as a nasty "nobody could love you" but honest wish "good luck .. for the rest of your life, if you don't make a change, as you are making yourself most miserable of all, with that hate." 💜
    💜💜💜
💜You couldn't know this 5 months ago when you did this video : 💜
BTS are 3rd gen of K-pop, not pioneer, they have their own stars, who lighted the way for BTS - 1st and 2 gen stars that are honestly incredible. 💜
I might be ARMY but credit must be given where it belongs. There were big and awesome K-pop stars before BTS, and they are idols of our idols. 💜
Also BTS is not the Kings of K-pop that "official" title belongs with good reason to one group that came before BTS. (Same as Michael Jackson is equally "officially" named as King of Pop and Nobody else can claim that title anytime soon - however good singer, performer, and dancer, they might be!) 💜
💜You saying you don't know any of them: You liked RM BTS's leader (and main lyrisist) in Mic Drop. 💜
💜The one doing "bird noises" is our kitty cat, he's probably calling out to have lunch - I mean he is other (first one was RM) of our former hardcore underground rapper who has awesome aggresiveness in his rap voice, Suga. (Apparently you get to know him by his other stage name : Agust D. - video that finally brought me to your channel. 💜 )
💜The one growling to your benefit, is Tae, stagename "V", he has awesome low voice that you would love, but can sing high up there with the rest of the vocal-line. (He loves Jazz and his whole "Layover" solo album has quite a jazzy feeling - did you also say you love Jazz or do I remember wrong ?) 💜
💜The one they are kicking on the ground (first), is their youngest and main vocalist, incredible JK. (Who you also get to know by his solo work, if I'm not incorrect. 💜)
(After JK's solo he kicks Tae and Suga sits on Tae's back while doing his rap. - Yeah this is normal Early BTS silliness. They actually love each other like family. Which is why they were celebrating their 10th year anniversary in June.)
💜You liked Jimin's high voice which was brief, but all of his own (He let crowd finish his lines which is how he showed love for the fans.) - Jimin with his incredibly high voice and Tae with his low voice, are born in the same year -which automatically makes them friends. But they went farther going full on soulmates - Jimin was earlier laughing straight up Tae's painful face - as Suga was rapping and sitting on him.
    - - -It is hard to believe looking at this, but they all actually, really love each other even more than we fans ever could. 💜💜💜
💜JK sliding into his lines - he is incredibly sporty and physical. (And million other things, but I'm trying not to write you a book) And there you see Why He Is BTS's Main Vocalist. 💜

This Attack on Bangtan performance is so funny! They are comedians on stage sometimes and this shows it. I love when V randomly says “Nico Niconi” and Jimin is dying of laughter so much he’s basically rolling on the floor and can’t sing his part.
You can like whichever groups you like, and I like Stray Kids as well, but BTS is my an absolute favorite. They have hundreds of songs and they are just amazing. Even Stray kids looks up to them and considers them the industry standard. I hope you will watch and react to A Guide to BTS: The Bangtan 7 by Taylor Mari next! I love seeing BTS having fun on stage.
At one time, some of them had a water fight on stage and chase each other around with water bottles in hand, while the others were performing. They've also had a giant inflatable playground on stage for the song "Anpanman", where they could climb up and slide down. Sometimes they simply fall over laughing because of the antics of another member (see 6:06. Jimin was still laughing for some time after that, unable to sing at 6:34).
One of the members, Suga, is now doing a solo tour, and it's so heartwarming to see him and ARMY try to make each other smile or laugh ... him banging on piano keys like a cat or ARMY pranking him with phones when he goes to the barricade to take video selfies (it's a whole inside joke thing).
Since you're a metalhead, it might be fun to watch "BTS are rockstars" by Boracity Magazine (on your own time or as a reaction). It's a video created by a fan of rock/metal and talks about the similarities she sees between BTS and rock/metal bands. She makes well-argued and well-thought out points.

That was unusual. At about 8 minutes into your reaction out of the blue you started on a war with prior commenters. As a first-time listener to you I had to say whoa, what is with this guy. I get you are relatively new to BTS and a regular Stray Kids listener, but these are two groups from different generations of K Pop who have admiration for each other. Same goes for Ateez. None are looking to be coronated Kings of K Pop. None of them are so self-centered as to want their recognition as title how they lord over others.
Technically Big Bang from a generation earlier than BTS and two generations earlier than Stay Kids and Ateez carried that moniker but for reasons peculiar to their generation. K pop has changed quite a bit since then. I think both BTS and Stray Kid members would simply blushingly smile at such an adulation but neither group would revel in such reverential treatment. Both are about their art and their fans.
So my recommendation is rather than triggering fanbases who can respond immaturely, concentrate on reactions without fanboy handing out King of K Pop titles. Saying a group is really good or that you really like them would seem enough. And don't simply switch from listening to a performance to a long emotional rant which feel misplaced. If you had a problem with commenters clear the air at the front of your reaction then show your value.

Ok! I've watched it. Firstly I'll like to say, good reaction!
Now, since i don't want to extend this comment so much because the other one was already big: I'll just say again, that, yes, you're entitled to your opinion, but remember you did mention breaking records when talking about why you think stray kids are the kinds now, and you also haven't really listened to much of other groups besides stray kids and ateez, so it's not really fair to compare tastes, I think (?). The one that facilitated the market for other kpop groups to begin selling millions was also BTS as well, and they haven't released a proper album since 2020, but even on hiatus their records, awards and accolades are pretty (extremely) hard to reach, it's not because they're not releasing anything that someone has to automatically take their spot as the top xx thing. So, for me, you should (and it's totally ok for you not to) be open about listening to other groups and etc. But be careful about the title and ranking things because kpop stans take that much more seriously than western stans.

Without bts, kpop would be a niche interest in america.
Their music is innovative and their lyrical depth is what brought them attention from a massive fanbase.
Seotaiji and boys were known for being political in their music. The only people in k music who took on that role after the commercialisation of kpop was BTS. They are political in their music and talked about social issues in their music from predebut.
No other global artist has the reach they have.

See, it's this right here. You once again basically took a swipe at BTS by only talking about who went first and it not being BTS...and left out any true discussion about the actual impact of BTS globally (not just their history and accomplishments - their IMPACT)- you give that credit to people who were barely global at all. PSY had one song hit it big (and BTS actually achieved higher than he did). PSY himself has talked about how he only wished he could have expanded that further, but he wasn't able to do it. BTS themselves have acknowledged that he helped them. Lots of people have "helped" - inch by inch. Only BTS has actually BROKEN THROUGH in the US in a way meaningful enough for other acts to follow. These are simple facts, but somehow you don't want to admit them, and I think it's because lots of other K-pop fandoms do the same thing...and it's that very thing that makes BTS fans so frustrated. Just as we ARMY are happy to say that Stray Kids is doing well and many of us congratulated their fans for breaking that album record, it would be nice if the other fandoms would stop belittling and minimizing the achievements that BTS has made and the positive impact that has had on their own faves' ability to succeed.

I thought kings of kpop was EXO's title.
BTS doesn't need that title they are already bigger than kpop itself.

I haven’t seen the video yet (I’ll save it for later) but I read some comments... Many forget that Psy and BigBang was considered the King of his time. Then we talked about EXO as the kings of the Kpop. And some time ago, we talked about BTS as kings...
Recently, the name Stray Kids stands out a lot like the new kings... And that’s normal!
Each generation always has artists who stand out and become pioneers. BTS is not the only group to have put a stone to the building and will not be the last. A new generation arrives, with new records, a new kind of music and attracts new fans. That’s the way it is, and we have to accept it.

@@AMetalheadsPerspective you shouldn't have to explain yourself...for you Straykids is King it's ok the same way other people will not agree with you and they won't change their minds either. It's futile... Just enjoy kpop and the merits of each song...

its probably because BTS are still currently waaaaay bigger than stray kids and even the hype around skz doesn't come close to bts's current popularity. I mean is gaining more streams every year than stray kid's entire discography that kinda says a lot. Of course SKZ are newer so its incomparable but still, when BTS, EXO or bigbang started to be called "the kings of kpop" they have already surpassed the previous groups, already broken all their records and already dominated the entire discography and set a new horizon to their industry. BTS is still the first group everyone thinks of when they hear kpop. Stray kids is way too niche in the global pop world and their only legacy is whithin a certain generation of a certain niche industry that is kpop. BTS were never called kings until they blew kpop out of the water. Stray kids has not broken any bts record, except that one album pre order which was manipulated by the amount of versions (18 WHOLE VERSIONS, which is kinda insane??, BTS only have had a maximum of 4 in their entire career, while most of their other recent albums have 2, the other ver being a more expensive deluxe ver that is released month later. Do you guys realize the difference ? BTS did not break bigbang and exo's records with some tactics that helped them. They just did it all by themselves with their fandom and no industry support. Oh and it wasn't just one or two records. They were already the most streamed kpop artist since 2016, and Dope was the most streamed kpop song on spotify in one year, until the end of 2015. 3 years into their career, BTS were already breaking everyone's records and were already a huge threat to the big ones. Is stray kids a "threat" to bts ??? When the gap on streams, achievements and awards is THAT big ?

If BTS had not opened its doors around the world, neither SKZ nor other K-pop groups would have been known as they are now. Paved the way means this.

The reaction to the video was great, you lost me pretty quick with the discussion after it. You were missing the point. Hopefully not on purpose.
Will give your reactions a few other try. I’m not the type to jump to conclusion just on 1, 2, or very few things. Wouldn’t make sense to pretend to know when i clearly dont even know well enough abt the topic to talk. 😊
Bizarre.
