    Would have been cool to see something like the Aeon Closed X in place of the Sundara! It's a lot more comfortable, and it at least does a lot better in sound vs the sundara, not sure about your full thoughts on it these days though. Or even an option like the DT770/700, bathys, etc.

    • @clickbaitpro

      Yes and even 700 Pro X and Meze 99

      @@clickbaitpro Yeah I personally own all of them (sundara, aeon noire, 700 pro x, and meze 99), aeon is providing the best overall experience when it comes to ON THE GO. beyer comes in super handy when I'm recording guitar but is just lacking in comfort. The cup size is too small. Sundara closed doesn't sound that nice to me, and meze is no good for carrying outside, too huge. Aeon sounds nice, looks nice, and is foldable. Absolute killer when paired with ifi gryphon

    If you're going to discard the $600 option immediately then find another alternative.
    Comparing a $1,000 vs $100 makes genuinely zero sense. You may as well throw in a $7,000 option to skewer it even more.
    You even have the Apple AirPods Max that you've reviewed that makes sense for the middle purchase, even if it doesn't directly compete with the Celeste and AKG.

    • @clickbaitpro
      @clickbaitpro 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Aeon Closed X should be an option instead of Sundara. Airpods max isn't a competitor but still better tuned than Sundara

    • @Armbrust210

      Joshua has a history of compiling things that he recently reviewed into one comparison-style video. So just see it as that, rather than a complete look into the closed-back headphone market. Poke 2 and Sundara closed wouldn't have made it into the video if it weren't like this

    I have been owning the Celestee for a while now. I mainly use them at home, since my wife and I mostly chill in the same room and I do not want her noises to interrupt me or me to disturb her. I use that with an AUNE X1s GT and I love it. This headphone gives me everything I need for modern music. I still have the 660s to fall back to for more analytical listening, but I love the engaging sound of the Celestee ❤️

  • @MrQwertypoiuyty
    @MrQwertypoiuyty 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Another Focal closed headphone is the Focal Radiance. I auditioned both Celestee and Radiance and I can simply say that the Radiance is much "airier" with a bigger soundstage, maybe like the closed back sibling of the Focal Clear MG, but with slight bass emphasis. However, that's a higher price point than the Celestee!

    I think there's a pretty big gap in the market for $200-500 solid closed back headphones. Open backs seem to be so dominant for that price range and I'm not sure why.

    • @JoeNokers
      @JoeNokers 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Open backs are better headphones in terms of sound, they always will be at any price point it's just physics. But as for why there is a huge gap in closed backs in that price bracket, I have no idea.

    Would be cool to do a higher-end closed system build designed around office space use. (for example: a desktop amplifier like the fiio k9 pro paired with a LCD-XC, or a T60 Argon with a topping stack) I feel like some of your choices in this video for headphones was limited to what can be powered by a portable.

  • @alejandroelcid
    @alejandroelcid 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Looking at it as a "headphone system", mine is worth $300; Meze 99 Noir ($180, frequently on sale through Drop) and BTR5 2019 version (prior to BTR5 2020 release). It might not impress Josh at all but to my non-audiophile ears it sounds great and I am happy with this setup. 😁

    Am I missing something? Considering when you dropped this video, but what about SEVERAL game changer product available now. 1) Focal Bathys. I am using it, and it is replacing the dongle headphone solution. The Bathys is in Celestee territory. 2) Apple AirPods Pro 2 is now approaching or in audiophile territory. I use that at work when a large headphone is too intrusive. And even more recent, the B&W Px 8, which I hear is cheaper and maybe comparable to Bathys, just different. Audiophile ANC Bluetooth is here! Let’s see a review? The Bathys is roughly 1/2 the cost of the Celestee set!

    An M1060C with Fiio BTR7 ( 200$ for M1060C and 200$ for the BTR7) would a be a very good combo/build. Plus the M1060C comms with the carrying case too and you'll still have the option to make it an open back headphone to have a different sound signature, its headband is not the the best but it very nice with regards to its price. Very disappointed from the build option, we either buy some low-end headphone for 100$ or we jump straight to a 600$ build that doesn't offer even half of the option you get with the 400$ build I suggested... Maybe because you need to push your referral links...

    Cool mobile systems, Josh! Just a thought - I would love to see another 3 closed back systems, but intended for home use so that the world of DACs/amps opens up. A think a lot of people run both opens and closed, usually closed for when there are people (like a partner) who need to sleep but you want to listen to music. This is my case - my daily drivers is the Senn HD598 (soon to be DT1990s... or sundaras... haven't decided yet, I can get the 1990 for $400 or sundara for $300) but I recently got the DT770 Pro 250ohm ($99 direct from BD!) paired with a DX3 Pro+ for night time listening and I absolutely love this system. I'd love to try a tube amp with my 770s, but I've never owned or tried a tube amp. It'd be great to see what combos you can think of for this use case.

    Don't buy Apple dongle, if you own android device - sound is really quiet, significantly more quiet than my phone is able to output without it. Workaround I know is to install custom volume increase tool on rooted device.

      Yeah, I was a little surprised at Josh's suggestion. It's not $10 but Moondrop's Dawn is a good option and you can get it in either 3.5mm or 4.4mm.

    Travel around with a $1000 headphone is a little pretentious yet there are people walking around on the street wearing a $3000 or even $7xxx iem lol.

    you just made a video talking about how disappointing the closed sundara was, the only reason you've put it in this video is because it's new. are your recent videos all part of some joke or something?? 💀💀
