The problem is Ubisoft releases games just to release games....like nothing they do feels like it has any passion anymore. Everything is about money, even Assassins Creed feels like a movie series that I wish would just end already but they keep making them and at this point I've lost any interest I had in it because the series simply does not feel special anymore. I feel like that's the issue with all of their games. They have no happy medium to what they do and because of that the company is suffering and has fans that have lost interest.
To be fair, the people behind the games we loved like the Ezio trilogy and Far Cry 3 aren’t there anymore. Sadly that’s how it is with many peer companies and it’s suffered tremendously as a result

Ubisoft also released Prince of Persia the Lost Crown back on January 18th of 2024. It was a 2.5D Metroidvania and it received positive reviews and even got two nominations at the Game Awards. One was for best action/adventure and the second was for innovation in accessibility, the ladder of the two it actually won. It innovated on the genre by incorporating a feature called, "Memory Shards" which gives you the ability to take a screen shot of your game and pin it to your map. This feature greatly helps you remember areas that you need certain abilities in order to access. Honestly I think they need to split their development teams into smaller studios and take a solely publisher roll, and I think we would both A. get better games built with less intrusion and more creativity. And B. get more game more frequently built with less budget. Another thing to consider is that restrictions and limitations, when you're working on limited on resources, create a breading ground for creative thinking and problem solving. Which translates well into game development, and lightens the load of work to (somewhat) realistic expectations.
As an Assassins Creed enjoyer myself I hope Ubisoft gets bought out and sells off the IP. They’ve been mishandling AC for years now and it deserves to be made by a competent developer.
Ubisoft established a pattern where there was no reason to buy at launch. The games were always broken so it was best to wait a couple of months for patches. By then it’s been easy to pick the game up for $20.
In my head cannon, assassins creed as a story was completed in assassin’s creed 3. Even though black flag was a good game, I felt it was more of a poor attempt to add onto what happened after AC3 and after black flag it all went downhill from there. Now Ubisoft just releases games to make money.
The last AC game for me is Unity. After bugs fixing it was really good. Best parkour, good graphic, fun multiplayer mission. After that I don't enjoy ac games anymore
This will be the decade of the fall of the titans. So many once respected gaming companies(Ubisoft, Blizzard, etc) falling so far from grace that they may never recover. Feels like we’re nearing another video game dark ages like in the 80s

How American of you to just talk about western companies and not really talk about the global gaming industry at large. Like, not everything in the industry is doom and gloom even if it's too easy to see it that way because of bad news within the industry happening everywhere; look at Japanese companies for instance like Nintendo, SEGA, Capcom, Square Enix (even if they have some problems) Bandai Namco, FromSoftware among other Japanese companies, the Japanese industry isn't entirely perfect and these companies mentioned aren't entirely perfect either, but for the most part it's doing very well enough that they're hugely carrying the industry along with indie games from companies that aren't even from the US and yet they're having their successes that are also helping carrying the entire gaming industry anyways. Yes, the industry undoubtedly has problems across the board and things really need to change, but there's still many good things to enjoy about the industry especially for companies that are seeing huge success for the best reasons, that don't seem like they'll stop anytime soon.
Oh and none of this would have happened if they decided to focus on making good games instead of micro-transactions and squeezing every dollar out of beloved franchises without innovation. So deserved.
