Materials:
For the body anything around 5-6 oz, for the zipper frame and the D-ring strap 3-4 oz would do.
Hardware:
1/2” D-ring or O-ring
7” zipper
Tools:
Scissors, knife (paper knife or rotary cutter would also work).
Stitching irons: my pattern is made for 5mm stitching irons. If you
are willing to use any other size please make sure that the hole count is the same where
it has to be the same.
Needles - according to your thread size, a pair of harness needles.
Mallet.

I agree with what you said toward the end of the video, it is much easier to finish if the sewing starts at the top (middle of zipper) instead of in the corners.
