    Programming is like a roller coaster of emotions. You go from feeling like an idiot to feeling like a genius over and over again until you finally learn that you’ll eventually figure your problems out, and when you do, it doesn’t mean you’re a genius, and when you’re still struggling, it doesn’t mean you’re dumb. It took me 4 years to figure that out, but here I am, still loving to write code!

    • @Nolimitation1

      I started learning coding and I found it to be easy. But I was bored to tears. I felt coding to be as boring as writing essays and I just started. I thought to myself do I really want to do this for 20 years? HELL NO! I would rather tile a bathroom. I can see how coding a guidance computer for a space probe/launch vehicle would be fun and rewarding but 99.99% of programming is not that.

      @@mrwhitesam6917 Sometimes it is. It depends on what you are coding. But coding is more boring than it is hard and that is probably why it pays well. Because few people want to do it much less spend the decades to get really good at it. If you are content with coding than good for you more power too you but I think it is excruciatingly boring. If I had to code for 10+ years I would lose the will to live.

    im a "late bloomer". When i took comp sci my freshman year, it was arguably the worst learning experience of my life. I hated not immediately knowing the answer to things, for me to code for hours on end and to get 20+ error messages, not understanding the code im writing half the time. My professor's teaching style really didn't help either; his intention was to get us to solve problems on our own, but he would give us minimal information then chuck us off the deep end. When i finished the 2 courses i told myself i would NEVER code again.
    I approached coding on my own about a month ago, now 3 years later. Using my own process, i've begun to fall in love with learning again, and even though im doing this as a hobby, i can see myself not quitting anytime soon. It clicked, finally. Sometimes its also not just about how badly you want to do it, but the environment you put yourself in while learning it. My class was constant pressure from the get-go to people who never "hello world"'d in their life.
    When i approached it now, i just let myself be. If i felt the want to go and toy around with learning, i did it. Fast forward a month and i probably made more progress learning code in this singular month than i did over 2 semesters, all because i let my curiosity drive the learning, not a grade.
    I probably got a bit off topic, but the points you made in the video really are accurate. Sometimes youre not made for it, but i also wanted to thrown in my own loop: sometimes youre just not in the right environment mentally to learn it.
    College has made me hate subjects i grew up loving, and with coding, even made me swear it off for years. To everyone out there who are struggling with what you thought you were made for: take your experience learning a class or subject with a grain of salt, you'll be surprised how much more you learn if you let your interest take the wheel, rather than a grade. The less you worry about a grade, the better off youll be

      This is exactly what I need. Thanks so much for your input. I have the same problem - my professor expects too much, doesn't explain anything and just gets frustrated when we take too long, solves it for us and then moves on. It's so frustrating. It's frustrating trying to solve something for a while but the major factor in that frustration is the time constraint.

    That whole constantly fixing problems, not being able to figure things right away, not understanding my job and all that, definitely frustrates me. But that could be because my work is timed right now. So we are thrown into things and have to figure certain processes out, but have a short time limit to do it, which lowers our stats and affects our pay. I studied maths in university and could not for the life of me find employment related to that field. So as a "last resort" of sorts I applied for a position in a software firm. I've been working there for 9 months now and even though the work climate is stellar in every aspect, the actual act of coding itself, studying unfamiliar things all day and constantly feeling like I'm the dumbest person in the team (which, in regards to technical prowess, I absolutely am) makes me loathe my job. I find it harder and harder to concentrate and I habe to read most code multiple times even just to get the basic gist of what's going on and the complex interplay between different puzzle pieces is confusing me to no end. But not in a good way where I enjoy tackling these things. It's just draining my life force away and I become more and more unhappy each day.
    But I also have not the slightest clue what other field of work I could pursue instead. So for the time being I'm stuck and have to watch my mental health decline further and further.

    • @John-noon
      @John-noon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I’m so sorry to hear about that. I know how hard it is to be stuck in a job you hate.
      Have you looked into careers involving math that are projected to be in demand? Surely there has to be something you can do. Or Perhaps you don’t want use math anymore and there is something else that interests you that you haven’t considered?
      I truly hope things work out for you. For me, once I lose intrinsic motivation, it all falls apart. Taking care of your mental health is paramount to work. Be patient and kind to yourself.

    Good video. Liked how you touched on the idea of getting used to being frustrated from not knowing the answer. I'm currently going through the Odin course, and just realized the projects and exercises are intentionally built in a way that forces you to research and ask around on the Discord BEFORE looking at the solution. Frustration is a part of the process, and it means you're really putting effort into figuring it out versus hopping on Stack and asking for a solution immediately (we won't name names 😂). As far as computer sitting is concerned, I have the gamer bg as well, but I time my productivity with pormodos and go out for a walk at least once or twice to refresh. Once I finish and get some income, I eventually aspire to work on my craft on beaches and waterfronts. The scenery helps with the creative process.

    Not sure if coding would be for me. The part I’d struggle with would probably be the frustration of feeling like I’m not learning anything lol. But I’m looking at coding mainly because I’ve been curious about digital marketing which benefits from learning the basics of html/css.

    As much as the domain of programming excites me. I think deep down I know that it's just excitement and admiration for the people who have made such awesomeness possible. From the first computer to freaking robots, I admire the minds of people who have led this thing up until here. I think I liked the idea of being one of them and pushing my mind to do great things like them, but its time to accept that this life is not for me. And I would very much like to be a coder if I see it fitting, but right now, I think I don't see myself living this life. But it just amazes me at the talent of the people who have made all this possible

    Well all of these points are spot on and i just started learning coding yesterday from a place called Khan academy and they were just teaching stuff like intergs and it was really been a while since i have been into something and i didn't even noticed few hours just passed but i was actually in animation before and i loved building animations but it is also looking to be pretty interesting so i Don't know if coding is something for me but i hope atleast try it for a while now before i decide if i wanna make coding my career.

    😂😂 Felt like bro was talking directly to me. I'm definitely meant to be a programmer/coder. bah. I'm a jack of all trades. I love most aspects of our 3D world. Mechanical. Electrical. but also love computers and all their components that allow functionality. Programming really woke me up though, I wanted to know how things world. Now, after many MANY videos, I have a better grasp.

    I cannot sit behind a desk or in front of a computer for very long, but I love problem solving, researching, long periods of mental work and the idea of expertise. To anyone reading this, do you know a career that can provide those things while letting me move about?

  • @kumarm9221

    Most of the white collar jobs now a days requires to sit in front of the computer, I am a mechanical engineer working on ANSYS software for analysis, though we don't do coding but it is an application software we often sit Infront, we do very little bit of coding for automation of our work. I agree it is less compared to developer, also the other side of the jobs which don't need much sitting are professors, HR and Marketing/sales. My cousin is into marketing he enjoyed travelling a lot when he was young but in mid 30s he is frustrated of frequent travel. Every kind of job has it's own pro's and con's.

    I live in a country where working in a cubical is considered a top-tier job, even if your job is simply writing documents or something, while working outside (in a resturant, for example) is frowned upon even if you're literally a manager or making a good income, they view them as "illiterate and ignorant" because it's not a "stable" job and "humiliating"
    they think if you work in a cubical you have a way better status than the outdoor jobs. So basically you get a lot of respect, a better and wider and more positive recgonition and even viewed upon the females as a successful person with a lot of money.
    Tl;dr i gotta do it cause i have no choice

    I just turned 25 and I am dealing with a quarter life crisis. I have a cushy job as a virtual receptionist which I HATE but it pays my bills and I cannot find anything that is as sustainable. I am looking for anything I can learn to keep making the amount I am making now or more. I want to escape dealing with people all day and do something more practical. I am not sure if this is something I want.. I am currently dealing with the pain of finding WHAT I WANT TO DO because I cannot make a living making music.

    My parents want me to get a degree and I was thinking about CIS, but I know it’s not for me.
    I like being able to “build” things, but I don’t like having to be sedentary staring at a screen. I think CS is cool, but it’s never really been something I wanted to peruse. I don’t know what to do now :/
    I am leaning towards integrated studies with a focus in CS/CIS vs CIS degree, but then again if it turns out I actually like coding it would pretty much be too late to switch majors. I’m an incoming junior at the moment.

    Hey, great vid. I have a question tho': how do you learn software programming if you already work 8+ hours( from 900 to 1800 hours) in front of the computer but on finance and after those hours you feel like your concentration goes down the drain with almost any other field of expertise you'd like to master or learn. Sometimes not even feeling like gaming or doing stuff just finishing work, doing some sports, eating and going to sleep just to get back on the grind stone the next day . This means you have maybe almost 2 hours a day which are arguably productive and some maybe 4h/day in the weekend ( because one might like to think they are not a husk and also need to take care of their mental health and family). Could this be achieved with learning only for almost 18h/ week at best ? Thx

    • @tramarthomas6105
      @tramarthomas6105 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have the time, the dedication and the interest then yeah it's possible. You'll have to make the most of your time though, and you'll want your learning path to be clear and defined. I'd recommend following The Odin Projects curriculum if you want to get into web development. If that doesn't work for you, then there are other options

    How prevalent are remote jobs where you can realistically stay home most of the time? Or are the vast majority of positions requiring you to actually come in and sit in a cubicle?

  • @limitless1692
    @limitless1692 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If you are willing to work for free, then coding is for you.
    If you want to have money and make a living from coding, then coding is not for you.
    Software Development is oversaturated with people.
    To the point where it is impossible for somebody to hire you. You can check, each job posting has between hundreds to thousands of applications.
