    4:15 Those are not broken water lines. That is ground water forced to the surface by the earthquake as "sand boils". Oh, and in an earthquake of that size, you are going to get aftershocks. Big ones. Soon.

    I know it's destructive but liquefaction is so interesting.

    Crazy things about this video is what that street looks like now (a few years ago the army was training there)
    And just the fact you had a camera back then, good video by those standards

    It's so peculiar to see this muck come bubbling up out of the ground in so many places in this otherwise normal suburban scene.
    I wish the camera had been held steady, though.

    Over two years down the track and the old house is still standing. Looking a bit sad. 5- percent of the houses are gone.

    I'm left wondering if the house sunk evenly. Or did you have to get the house jacked up and leveled?
    Cheers!

      @Mackstra1  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Cameron Hollis the house sunk towards the cracks that formed in the ground. We ended up loosing the house and land but we were insured :) so ended up getting a nicer house

      Sam McK Wow. They condemned the land! I didn'tknow that. My interestis piqued. I must research the aftermath. How terrible for those who were not insured. And it goes without saying, the terrible loss of life and serious life changing injuries.
      Cheers.

    @hebneh Yeah it ended up being about 1 foot deep around most of the house, spent a few days digging! And apologies about the bad camera work, as soon as the quake hit I grabbed the camera then went from there

    Liquefaction or torn sewer?

    • @Mackstra1
      @Mackstra1  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Liquefaction primarily and the sewer as well. The water table in the area was quite high and the share g force that was amplified by the local hills caused a large amount of liquefaction.

    Looks like busted water lines, now. I pray all will give their life to Jesus Christ before it’s too late.

      Kathy Newman nope. Its groundwater that is pushed up by compacting earth caused by the earthquake.
