Funny how the Thunderbird was winning all the Nascar races, so Nascar had to ban it when asked by the GM because it hurt their Chevy sales. Nascar it seems was not about letting the best car and driver win, but rather promoting sales for their favorite automaker handing out highest kickbacks.

I have nothing against dodge, ford, or chevy. In fact I prefer to always buy American made cars. (Also why I haven’t purchased a brand new vehicle and never will if I can help it). Anyway I personally believe dodge makes the best muscle cars by far. I am putting Plymouth under dodge for explanations sake. It doesn’t get any better than the 70’s barracudas for me. Go ahead and throw in the Dart, the Charger, the Challenger, the daytona, you get the point. Obviously chevy made some amazing cars in that era too like the chevelle, the camaro, the el camino, and the nova. Ford had things like the obvious mustang, the mercury cougar, the fairlane Torino, Torino Talladega, etc etc. they all msde incredible cars in that age but I think dodge wins out as the most iconic of the bunch. Dodge still makes the best muscle cars but they had an extremely piss poor period in the 90’s. The viper is obviously sweet and the stealth was cool looking but not that great of a car. They also royally screwed up in the 80’s. Anyway I am taking the long way around of saying that Ford has consistently built extremely nice muscle and sports cars. I will say that the 80’s muscle car scene as a whole was not very good but cars like the Thunderbird were superior to anything else being made at the time. I literally just bought an 86 Thunderbird in mint condition and I am even more in love with them now then I was before. I lucked out big time. I have had some health conditions that really threw a wrench into my life snd mental health went down the drain when physical health started declining. Anyway I am trying to get things back on track and I desperately needed a new car. An old retired couple had this 86 ford thunderbird that was damn near flawless and it was out of my price range by a long shot but I decided to inquire anyway to see if I could maybe get them to drop the price and I could have something to work towards. They told me their bottom end and I was like well that’s probably not doable for me and I don’t want to insult you with a bad offer so if by some miracle it goes down in price more feel free to contact me. Them being the good people that they are just asked how much I had and I said $1000 which is incredibly low for the condition and I felt silly even telling them how much I had because I was nowhere close to them on price. He just said “ya know what? We don’t use it, we don’t need it, and I would much rather it go to somebody who needs a car right now than somebody who just has money to blow” so he said “give me what you have and it is yours” so now I own an 86 thunderbird and I couldn’t be happier 🤣
