- HUSTISFORD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The first of April is an anniversary tied to many heavy hearts in both the NASCAR and Wisconsin racing communities.
It was 30 years ago, April 1, 1993, Alan Kulwicki, lost his life along with three others in a plane crash near Blountville, Tennessee. It happened just months after the Greenfield-native was crowned the 1992 NASCAR Cup Series Champion as an owner and driver, the first from the state of Wisconsin to achieve the honor.

Awesome segment. So many in the NASCAR community still miss Alan to this day. His amazing run in 1992 is still talked about to this day.
Alan Kulwicki gone but not forgotten! Alan was a friend to everyone, he help others when they needed help. He showed the world how a private ownership racing team could race the best in Nascar and still come out on top and win a championship. He also is remembered for his still going Charities and don`t forget he gave us the Polish Victory Lap. Sad he died at such a young age as others in the sport of racing have. We all remember and always will !
What he accomplished will never be repeated I don’t think. Every one was happy he won the championship
Needs a movie made about him
Still miss him
From what I understand this was a family member I never got to meet passed away before I was old enough to know him...ashame too seemed like a great man from everything I seen
He died doing what he loved. GOD bless him!
Flying to a race track after a long day of signing autographs?
He was an engineer and did it all himself. Truly amazing, and Larson did the polish victory lap yesterday after his win.
it seems like so many NASCAR drivers have died in plane and helicopter crashes. RIP
