When I was writing my dissertation there was a long period during which I couldn't force myself to write anything. I would sit in front of the computer and just stare at it, all day. I wasn't getting anything done and I was doing anything else good with my time either. What broke me out of that was cutting down to the extreme the amount of time per day I spent on writing, and then do whatever I felt like doing. I started with 10 minutes. I know you can't much done in 10 minutes, but a little is a lot more than zero, and I was able to increase steadily that amount until I was getting a reasonable amount done per day. Maybe the same method can work for someone else.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing. It took me about solid two weeks of writing to finish mine. I also never spent a whole day just writing. At most 2-4 per day. For me the writing was not the most challenging part, but knowing what to write about - the story- if you will. Even though it’s physic have a clear understanding of your storytelling is half the battle.
I greatly respect you, Julia: four kids, a husband, a job, and a master’s degree in the works. I do love your office, but to me, it would be very distracting to work on a long document. After more than 40 years I decided to go back to college; I got my bachelor's degree last month, and I will begin my master’s this fall. I have four places at home where I go to work on my papers, and I rotate them whenever I feel like it. BTW, I am not planning on going back to work; this is just for fun 😂. Best regards, good luck with your thesis, and stay safe 🙏. You earned my sub.
Thank you so much for the kind words!! When working at home, I usually write either in my office or in the kitchen 😅 Congrats on finishing your bachelor’s degree! I always admire people who a brave, courageous, intelligent, and humble. All the best for your Master’s! ✊ I personally felt like completing my MSc was easier than my bachelor’s.
Hi Julia, I'm a masters student in biomedical engineering and I have 3 weeks left! My thesis is half done and sometimes when I work I film myself while working and share it as study with me's in TH-cam. Lately I don't wanna write it so much. While I'm searching what I can do about it I found this video and it's been very helpful! Also, I wanna ask what do you do when (or if) you doubt your work or yourself and how to continue working when you feel this way. Any tips would be helpful and I appreciate it. And thanks a lot, I really felt I'm not the only one who knows what to write but don't want to.
Hi Irem! Thanks for leaving a comment! I filmed a video that will answer at least some of your questions. I still need to edit it and it will be out in the next few days. I hope you will find your motivation to complete your thesis. The feeling you get when you finally finish it is totally worth the effort! Good luck!
