- Excerpts of 20 Dakota words presented with the Plains Indian Sign language. Created and Designed by Dr. Lanny Real Bird and Produced by Fort Peck Community College in 2010. Volume 1 & 2 contain @400 Dakota entries. Flashcards and CD are available. DVDs are available at Fort Peck Community College. Participants include: Nellie Silk, Tom Black Eagle, Barry Chambers, Lanny Real Bird and others.
Ft Peck CC bookstore, Sisisseton Wahpeton college, Saskatchewan indigenous cultural center, whirlwind smoke shop in new town, nd also have them.
Such a great easy Signing for non verbals...using it with my Autistic teen..non verbal to communicate....more please..need more of this..ty

Excelent vidio, have got W.P. Clarks book and William Tomkins book, but to see the signs visually makes all the difference.

Glad you have put " Native" sign on a video. I'm not a fan of European sign with all the mouth moving. I hope there will be more.

Meanwhile...i was given my indian name only a few years ago....Bird Whisper (NOT whisperer) finding the word Bird in Sioix or Cherokee was easy. BUT WHISPER I AM.STILL SEARCHING. WOULD U HAPPEN TO KNOW ANY NATIVE WORD(s) for WHISPER?? I WOULD BE SO GRATEFUL.!! EVEN few of my indian friends didnt know.. Sorry so lengthy. New w notification stuff. I hope i can locate you down the road.

"Where" & "Who" are the same sign?
"Who" is indicated with "man" sign and question gesture while "where" is generally pointing about and the question movement

Sounds so much like sanskrit,hindi and farsi but very few words match...
Ya'at'ee Dr. Lanny Real Bird, I am trying to teach my Native students how to do sign language to the song "Color Nature Gone" by XIT here are the lyrics:

Can you help me with the signs, I have some of it worked out by don't know how to sign for colors - blue, green, grey, or the words clear, clean, fish, gone.
