Thank you very much for sharing videos such as this one, I recently learned about PISL and I became very interested in its characteristics, I haven't had much luck finding books about Hand Talk for me to buy and learn from so having videos like this one is great, I hope you keep sharing more and I wish that many other people become interested in this beautiful sign language.
Natives had a form of sign language. My grandmother and dad used gestures at times. When nana would pump her palm back and forth, we knew, we were gonna get it for misbehaving, we were in a public place where she couldn't slap our lil booties. Thank you for this video, so interesting. My dad used the whistle language more, he is from the Yaquis.
I am a so called "fluent" PISL speaker but some of these translations are weird in my opinion "I am here to tell you all I know" seems very loose as a translation. I am seeing "I am here [reference to situation]" which I guess could be translated as that? I would say "I talk to you because of my knowledge" if I were to translate it like that. I love Bitter Root Jim Flathead's story about bears. Amazing. Seeing how many common signs used by PISL Indigenous Council also appear in ASL and LSQ, I hope this will serve as a great example and proof that ASL and LSQ does not just come from LSF, but also Indigenous sign languages! Unfortunately, many places including Wikipedia on history of ASL fail to recognize Indigenous nations' great contributions to ASL and LSQ. Wikipedia's ASL only mentioned "there were reports that the Indigenous peoples of the Great Plains widely spoke a sign language to communicate across vast national and linguistic lines." but did not say how it contributed to ASL. (I know Wikipedia is not reliable but it is often the starting point for further research with citations and used by many to gather basic knowledge about a subject.)

Bitterroot Jim is my great grandmothers Father. I myself am a bitterroot Salish person. The blood of these men here on the video still continue today.
How incredible it must be to watch the movements of your ancestor. Especially one who lived such a remarkable life that is long since gone...
