For 5 years, they have been matched up to fight each other. Seeing Khabib get the undisputed title and retire undefeated after being matched up with him for so long, has to be so hard to just move past from.
It’s confirmed What josh Thompson said before..
Let's not forget that Tony was psychotic way before that
That first fight would have been one for the history book. Khabitch ran from Tony! When I competed, there was some guys that had my number and I couldn't get by it. Tony Ferguson had Khabitch number.......if not explained why he pulled out 3x?
@davidbell4626 same reason Tony pulled out twice. Shit happens. Nobody was scared of anyone, grow up
Why are you ignoring McGregor stealing the title shot, and holding the division for almost 2 years.

He will do fine, he's just entering his prime now
This actually was/is the first time the guy was/is himself, reflecting on life, the ups and downs of professional fighting, and mental health issues. Bravo to the great and aging warrior.
In an odd, yet profoundly tragic & inexplicable way, Khabib left a true peer & comrade behind to soldier on, alone (to take on the next generation), when Khabib abruptly & permanently disappeared from the front line (where the two great competitors were supposed to fight, with 5 unsuccessful scheduling).
"Not delusional" and he claimed he is faster and better than ever in this same interview LOL
I will forever remember the interview, were khabib was asked about tonys mental health and everybody laughed except khabib. He said "if he has problems, we have to help him".
Tony and Khabib have such a deep level of respect towards eachother. Its just sad to see how the UFC is milking tonys name.
It is Tony's fault.😊
Khabib’s cool for that
😂 He had better dominate and finish Paddy if not he is officially done.
@@osuk1Tony’s fault for cutting weight twice to stroke his ego and prove something to Khabib.
He would lose anyway. Justin Gaethje is a bad match up for him. And he was not at his prime. Tony Ferguson prime was at rda fight.

I always feel that Tony and khabib never dislike each other, I feel Tony respect khabib and his father but i think he didn't like the fact that fight never happened.
I agree. You could always tell that Khabib's trash talk towards Tony vs his trash talk against Conor felt way different. With Conor there was an obvious disgust and disdain, but with Tony it was more of a "listen to this silly stupid guy, he talk crazy" and with Tony it was like "eat some more tiramisu fatty LOL" it never seemed all that vitriolic between them.
In a press conference arranged by Ali he was asked by a journalist about Tony's mental illness and most of the fighters laughed at the stage while Khabib stood up for Tony and told the journalist to leave his problems alone as it is sensitive topic and if he needs help he would give hand. There was a long time when Tony and Khabib were regarded as the kings of the division. No one was even close to them. It must be upsetting to Tony that people have forgotten all about how great he was.
Unfortunately in this fight buisness you are as good as your last fight just look at adesanya.
6 straight losses suggests he might have been over hyped. And I love Tony, he had a great streak, he's a great fighter. But a lot of his fans have an inflated opinion about his fighting skills.

Tony loved "hating" Khabib. They were amazing rivals and I really do wish we got to see them fight in 2015/2016. Hope Tony destroy beta Pimblett and retires.

Truly mind boggling to think how many times this fight was scheduled and then cancelled.
Wish Tony did the Apollo Creed thing. Go to Dagestan and have a brawl with Khabib. Like two good buddies reminiscing about the good old times. Get those demons outta you, Tony.
I was thinking the same thing. That Khabibs says:" let's fight ...no one needs to know and afterwards we'll drink tea together."
I wish Khabib would be in Tony's corner when he fights Pimblett. Just as a support. I don't know if that would inspire him or ruin him more though.

"At the end of the day, there's another day the next day" - Tony Ferguson
This matchup falling through for a final time was the most devastating anti-climax I think I've ever witnessed. The stars aligned so perfectly between these two that I can't even explain how much of a loss it was. I've never seen anything like man, it was devastating. The minute Tony signed to fight Gaethje I knew it was a wrap. I thought Gaethje would spark him clean out in a round or two, but the actual result was far worse than I could have imagined. A life-changing beatdown occurred and El Cucuy was no more. R I fucking P man 😥
I remember watching the Gaethje fight live it was heartbreaking as a Tony fan
Couldn't have said it better. It's a damn shame, too. I remember hearing he accepted the fight Gaethje and I was really hoping he didn't because of the possible damage he could've and did take in that fight. Tony was and still is too tough for his own good... Dude doesn't know when to tap, submit, be hurt, etc. I respect it, but I don't want to see him continue losing for our entertainment either.
Tony win or loss against Paddy needs to hang it up, too many times have we seen this story with our legends.

Im praying for you, Tony. You'll always be a legend, never forget it..
Since December 2015 to May 2020, the UFC attempted to set up Khabib vs Tony but us fans were never graced with the opportunity in seeing these two legends battle in the Octagon. However, we never took into consideration how Tony Ferguson was affected in not facing the man he was questioned by fans relentlessly to beat... Khabib also retiring must of left a hole in Tony's mind that the opportunity to face The Eagle is no longer existent anymore. I am happy to see Tony being honest but it can be a correlation that Khabib retirement was the key factor to his current 6 streak but we can never forget that he also faced a dangerous and changed Justin Gaethje (calm to the storm) who put an absolute beating on Tony that we never saw in his entire career.
Thats when I went from hardcore fan to casual. I was so excited for that fight for years and the disappointment from never seeing it killed me.

Respect to Tony 🙏🏻
I always knew it about him.
Him taking jabs at Khabib online showed he didn't want to let go of that status he had earned through this rivalry.
The fact that he admits it hopefully is a sign he's ready to move on.
He wanted to beat an opponent that mattered. And back then everyone thought Khabib couldn't be beat by anyone in the UFC. Except him. Tony had fans that believed in him. We didn't know how much that meant to him. That loss from Justin took so much from him physically and mentally.
not justin but khabib
God i can relate to this so much in my personal life. When i lost someone important in my life, i lost all the motivation and purpose to compete in what I was competing in.
This hits home 😞
The world became gray
Ever since I lost my father.... I dont feel motivated at my job, or gym...
Hearing Tony so clearly and concisely admitting this is actually pretty heartbreaking.
Khabib retiring on an odd number (29/0) is like he was saving that one final battle to 30/0 for Tony. And when faced with the prospect of fighting Khabib, Tony goes 12-0 but without it skids to 0-6. Its kind of poetic how indubitably tied they are, but also sad.
Tony lost before khabib retired so you're almost correct but not quite
@@forwardmoving8252 he was about to fight the eagle and he flew away. Such a shame really. I think Ali was being a major cunt by making Khabib take a plane due to covid rather than sort another solution for the match.

He wouldn’t have demolished him. Reason why he was ducking him. You can say he wins now because of how Tony fell off but in his prime he definitely would’ve gave Khabib a run for his money.

What are you talking about? He had the title shot. Tony could have waited a bit longer and fought Khabib for the title. He wasnt forced to fight Gaethje. But instead Tony choose to fight Gaethje, and Gaethje ended his carreer. He had the title shot right there in his hands and he threw it away.
@@gibjohnson5720Yes you can blame the ufc. UFC 229 should have been Khabib vs Tony they were both healthy enough to compete on the same night but they couldn’t resist the Khabib vs Conor matchup. I think Tony liked and respected Khabib because whenever somebody mentioned anything about Tony's mental health Khabib stuck up for him and would say if he is going through something we have to help him. Wish they would have fought or competed in something but it wasn't meant to be.
Whoever dare to step on the octagon is a champion. Even though Tony knows that he's not the same, he's getting old, he's on losing streak, he still wants to entertain fans, he still wants that win. That's the champion mentality right there. That's the real fighter. MMA fans love Tony

Imagine having 12 wins in a row in a stacked division and never fight for the undisputed title, absolute joke and very unlucky.
Not unlucky. The champion was just too big to ever make weight and fought rarely so it never happened.
This makes my heart hurt. In the period of time before the fifth attempt of Tony vs. Khabib was cancelled, I was actually kind of angry at Tony for behaving like such a jackass and I thought it was cool that Justin Gaethje beat him. And now I feel really bad, I never wanted Tony to lose fight after fight and take so much damage. Hearing him say he misses Khabib being in the fight game and that he lost a little bit of himself when Khabib retired makes me remember that, as weird and chaotic and bizarre of a person as Tony is, and as irritating as he can be sometimes, he's not a crazy person. There's a good guy in him.
man i just love this dude
Damn that's honestly wholesome in a Tony Ferguson way ❤
Also... every time the fight got delayed, Tony's chances of winning decreased. When the fight was first scheduled, Khabib was very inexperienced while Tony was the veteran in his Prime, but when the 5th fight was scheduled, Khabib was in his Prime while Tony was declining at age 36.
Tony would've won before the knee injury khabib would've won after
Tony is 4 years older than kbabib. you know 4 years is huge in this sports. Tony was still on his prime 4 years ago. now he's completely washed up..
Honestly when Tony was 36 he's still in his prime because the fight was on his early 36, and also they supposed to fight for the tittle but got canceled again because Tony was tripped over a wire. that's the time where's both were on their absolute prime. Khabib was 29 or 30 while tony is 33 or 34
makes me wanna cry to see tony like this...
Man Tony’s story is so interesting. It’s like the first half of the tale is an incredible story of a warrior rising thru the ranks, and then the second half is the sad downfall of the warrior. I think when he chose to fight Justin, it all changed. Such a bummer cause he didn’t need to take that fight, as well as the later fights. He could’ve hung tight and got a title shot. Honestly a sad story man

The beginning of this video really got me thinking a little bit. When Khabib vs Ferguson was announced in 2020 I read a comment from someone that went like: "The only reason I have still not ended myself is because I need to see this fight happen". I can see tony and khabib becoming good friends after a couple of years .
Literally the most sense i've ever heard from this man.
