This album really hits home. A lot of believers believe in sucking up their emotions and grief and everyone tells them it's okay to do that, that it honors God. (I used to believe that) But hiding and pretending doesn't honor God. He already knows our hearts and our grief. I love that the lyrics are challenging and makes you think about how we feel and respond on a heart level. We can't push it down. We have to face it. It weakens us and then grows us, if we let it. God help us.
It's like they've never read Psalms or Jeremiah/Lamentations or Job. Though it's important to remember the ends of those Psalms or Job. That there is a God who knows. Sparrows and the grass are remembered. We are not forgotten.
I agree with you that this is a deep song, and agree with the song's sentiment you might as well be honest with God, but I can't get on board with some of the lyrics, especially the ones that seem to deny God's sovereignty, namely, "No good God would cause a thing so..." (the last word escapes me).
@@asdf8076I think that when someone is in the throes of unimaginable loss, those types of thoughts and feelings do come. To deny them and pretend they aren’t there doesn’t do anyone any favors. Our Lord knows and He is sovereign even over allowing those types of thoughts to enter the mind of the believer. It is there in that place where our faith is tested, and we see if we really believe what we say we believe. When the thought comes that no good God would ever cause a thing so ugly, we wrestle with that and realize that God isn’t the cause, it is sin, and yet God is in control of whether or not that thing came to pass and so when we face that thought that comes in the darkest moments of life, we gain a deeper understanding of the God because we have to either come away with one of two things: God is not good, because He caused this (which is untrue) or God is good, sin and the fallen state of the world the cause, and God allowed it to pass for reasons that we’re not entitled to know or understand because we are not God. If we never work through the thoughts and feelings and simply deny them outright, we either end up with a theology that doesn’t allow for deep suffering and doubts, which leaves sufferers feeling broken, or we leave the faith altogether. That’s my take anyways. God bless you.
I hope you hate it May the anger settle in your bones Don't make your peace with it I pray that your aggression grows Come on, I know you wanna be brave Come on, it isn't hopeful to ignore the pain There's a black light burning I think it's pulling down the skyline I hope you hate it (I hope you hate it) Sing out the dissonance It's awful but it's time for the truth Don't tell the half of it You'll only end up twice as confused Come on, this ain't a blessing yet Come on, it isn't beautiful to say it is There's a black light burning I think it's pulling down the skyline There's a grey sky looming We've been mistaking it for daylight It's been a long night, honey I need to cry but I'm fighting it off And you're still shaking from the blood-loss No good God would cause a thing so ugly It leaves you cursing while you're trying to pray This time I think they're one in the same I hope you hate it Come on, it's good to hate this Come on, I hope you hate it Come on There's a black light It's been pulling down the skyline There's a black light I say we curse it ‘til the sunrise Come on
The only band that actually keeps me hanging on Facedown Records, I don't know why all or the majority of their bands have changes so much till the point that they make pop or shoe gaze rock like Everything In Slow Motion. I'll be old fashoned but at least keep your essence alive.
Dudeeeeessss!!!! Got to see them here in KCMO last week and they were amazing!!!! Freaking love this album! And the past few Viscera and Ultraviolet! You’re songs just hit me so hard and always get me thinking! God bless you guys! Much love!
This song is pointing out this devastating time to me, time to hate it. Pray and curse at the same time. God knows how i feel, feeling like being teared apart.
For me this song is about me and my fiance being blinded by addiction and loving the false reality it created for us and it was like daylight for us. The toxicity ruined our family unit 😓
So are My Epic now anti-god? Been out of loop for awhile now and the seemed to go from very christian focused albums to songs like open letter and this that states "no good god would cause cause a thing so ugly" etc. or am I missing the point of the song?
One of the topics of this song was him getting mad at the fact his wife had a miscarriage. His anger isn't towards God but the miscarriage itself. I talked to him personally about this because my wife and i lost our baby and went and saw them. I told him our story and he actually told us that what this song is about. He actually has a video that explains this as well.
@Mr. Rich B.O.B Jesus teaches us we can lose salvation. OSAS started in the garden when the devil told eve she wont die. Most pastors here in america teach this false doctrine of hyper grace.. I used to believe that because it tickles the ears and easy too believe but thats not what Jesus taught. Dont waste your time trying to refute it bro all I ask is that you skim through :) Have a blessed week,
Beautiful song. I feel like I'm too old or moronic to understand the lyrics? preformed and recorded beautifully but I don't think I understand... like the song tho, good stuff.
I can see you guys are obviously offended because you like this song. This is not the Facedown Records type bands I remember. There is definitely a question whether or not they are Christian. See this link, this is proper heavy music. th-cam.com/video/lopRqID7IFE/w-d-xo.html
I enjoy their music. After listening to The Burial, Impending Doom, and Oh Sleeper, their sound is a nice way to add a change of pace without completely leaving this area of music. Others might like them because they're heavy but not, making them a way to ease into metal. There's likely many other reasons as well.

This hits me in my bones.. fav forever
love those sick ass guitar tones. Sounds like some big muff action to me.
I hope you hate it
May the anger settle in your bones
Don't make your peace with it
I pray that your aggression grows
Come on, I know you wanna be brave
Come on, it isn't hopeful to ignore the pain
There's a black light burning
I think it's pulling down the skyline
I hope you hate it (I hope you hate it)
Sing out the dissonance
It's awful but it's time for the truth
Don't tell the half of it
You'll only end up twice as confused
Come on, this ain't a blessing yet
Come on, it isn't beautiful to say it is
There's a black light burning
I think it's pulling down the skyline
There's a grey sky looming
We've been mistaking it for daylight
It's been a long night, honey
I need to cry but I'm fighting it off
And you're still shaking from the blood-loss
No good God would cause a thing so ugly
It leaves you cursing while you're trying to pray
This time I think they're one in the same
I hope you hate it
Come on, it's good to hate this
Come on, I hope you hate it
Come on
There's a black light
It's been pulling down the skyline
There's a black light
I say we curse it ‘til the sunrise
Come on
thank u

Wow, incredible
upload Tsuneni please :) Also correct me if i'm wrong, but parts of this EP feel inspired by the band Arcane Roots.
other parts sound so much like the deftones
It's kinda mellow & shoe gazey but I like it. It could use more Jangle in the guitars too.
