John especially always looks like he should be in the 1920s or 1950s it's so badass. Zooey looks like she could be a flapper girl if only she had the properly adorned headware.
This is him being himself. He's always this quick and witty. If anything, I think Zooey was being a little nervous. I heard her voice shaking, and her trying to play up her jokes. Not that I'm making fun. I just felt bad.
kateofthecity bahahahahahah have you watched her in interviews?! That IS Zooey! She’s actually surprisingly relaxed in this one! You should definitely watch her interviews!

Tara Oakwell you may be a genius. I wish there was a single good reason for a Dick Van Dyke Show movie, because that casting would be impeccable. (Forget the frenemies, they should BE Rob and Laura)
Usually when the guests don't know each other the conversations are stiff and awkward and James has to keep introducing new topics, but John and Zoey got along so well and the conversation kept flowing and it was really refreshing to watch
I agree, they look like they are on a 1960's talk show instead of this show. You can simply cut out them on the right and paste them into a very old talk show and they would fit right in.
I love how genuinely impressed John looks at about 4:59 when he hears that Zooey is starring as Belle. Like his head whip to the audience as he starts applauding like "wow, did you guys know this??? That's amazing!"
That’s kind of his thing when there are other guests on. It’s endearing. I know people get so annoyed when jimmy fallon laughs too hard at a guest, but that’s head whip is kind of Johns equivalent of the laugh too hard, but it’s endearing rather than annoying.
linda x He lets them speak whereas other hosts fish for short, engaging stories. It’s what people usually gravitate towards but I much prefer this style when it comes to comedians who are engaging anyway.
I could see these two playing husband and wife in a sitcom, but you don't realise it's actually a horror?! And every episode becomes sinister and sinister. Idk what they do that's creepy yet though.
Lauren Steenkamp in one episode he has to walk in and lug a human head onto the kitchen table and say “ Work ended early so I brought dinner” and see her dicing up severed fingers like baby carrots and she’ll be like “ good that’ll go great with stew.”
I’d definitely watch this movie. He hates dogs but is unemployed and is hired to be this snobbish working lady’s dog walker. And then a love story ensues. I’d watch that. Just imagine John Mulaney having one-sided conversations with an adorable dog sounds like a scene I’d rewatch a thousand times.
It looks great, but it looks so uncomfortable! My mom used to make all her clothes in the 60s and 70s, and they were very "tailored" like that, and I always thought they looked very cute but SO CONSTRICTING haha no thank you.
Compassionate Curmudgeon awesome. Perfect. Couldn’t have said it better. They MUST be in something together but they have no chemistry bc too similar yet so different.
James Corden is such a good host and actually lets his guests talk. He doesn't mind having the center of attention be on someone else (unlike Fallon) and I love that.
Isabel Smith i think he tends to do that in interviews that are a bit awkward or he doesnt connect with the host well. Which I understand, tbh, i do the same thing when I go to parties and i have to talk to new people. I tell the same funny stories that ive told a million times before cuz i know that they work. So being a stand-up comedian it makes sense to me that he would to the same thing.
@@isabelsmith3775 I feel like the more comics become comfortable doing interviews and with themselves the less they rely on their material and can just have conversation. You could tell that John was still doing bits here, but they didn't all seem staged. Chappelle has gotten that way with interviews. He just has a conversation and is naturally funny. Burr is like that, too... Norm... Watching Louis CK get there over the years of late show interviews was great as well. He really got comfortable doing interviews.
he seems way more comfortable here, plus fallon is normally more scripted so he has time to write it out but this is improv and you can tell this when zooey and james are talking, he is thinking of a joke.
Smitty Werbenjagermanjensen I hope they become friends but I don’t think they had chemistry.. almost too similar or something so sorta low key competing for talk time. I love them both and wish they could somehow do a sketch together.
Soooo does anyone else think that John and Zooey are immortals??? But like really young ones that were made immortals in like the 20s or 40s?? They give off that vibe to me.
coming from a chubby person it's the absolute truth, I've literally had groups of people start rubbing my hands because 'they're so soft!' which is, if you were wondering, not a justifiable reason to pass around someone's hand in a rubbing circle
@james merten JUSTIFIED! Seems very justifiable to me. Hahaha I bet also when you were younger and chubby, girls and teachers would just pinch your cheeks so hard... it hurts and aint cute anymore. 😂 but hey, they say dont touch your face to prevent pimples... but back then.. still... clean AF. :D
Mulaney's accent and tone makes him sound like he walked straight out of a 1920's gangster movie. "Say, I ain't no Bluenose, see! I got my giggle water right here, see!"
They look like they're getting along so well it makes me so happy :) (not that other celebs on talk shows don't but it feels much more casual here rather than an interview)

A lot of guys are not privy to such details. I'd say the same applies to male majority jobs (not that I'm promoting this), but to most people, "I'm a software developer" is a good enough explanation. Does the S.O. know what a static variable is and she's not in I.T.? I have to say, probably not.
as someone who lives in Maryland, John Mulaney saying "I was at an outdoor concert in Maryland, and I had to spice it up, because it was Maryland" is hilarious, both because it's so relatable for anyone not living in Baltimore City, and because there's a 100% chance that their mushroom dealer was living in Baltimore City lol
The way John and Zooey are dressed looks like they are a hip couple that belongs in the 60s or something, i love it
lol i was thinking of the same thing
John especially always looks like he should be in the 1920s or 1950s it's so badass. Zooey looks like she could be a flapper girl if only she had the properly adorned headware.
M.L. Soll c
Yes! Exactly. Her dress is so perfectly Zooey. I would look insane in it, but on her, I can’t stop looking at it and marveling. Love them both.
Glad there's others, I genuinely think they'd be terrific together in a period comedy show
i need a movie with zooey and john wearing these exact outfits and playing a sassy married couple
I like the way you think
More bro and sis vibes. People marry their opposites.
Partners are very much decided on a biological level of someone who differs from you as much as possible.
Biology is only one factor. Cousin marriages are still common in certain parts of the world.
But they also pull off elaborate capers together, with lots of guns and car chases, and little domestic quips along the way.
“I did a lot of drugs at concerts... just to be blunt.”
I’m surprised no one laughed at that.
People aren't used to puns from Mulaney
ohhhhhhhhhhhhh
I did. I didn't exactly take him seriously, and until he mentioned the hallucinogenic, I was like, "OH, you were serious?!"
And I was like 420, by the way.
Right??? I did!
I could listen to John Mulaney’s stories for hours
Same
He’s a good story teller
i have been for two now
Over 4 hours total of Mulaney interview on 2 episodes of You Made It Weird with Pete Holmes podcast ☺️
he has had the strangest life and i love it😂
John always looks like the cool youth minister at the local church but then he reminds you he did coke
Lol true. I love listening to him talking about shroom stories though, it's way too accurate.
He has a TESTIMONY. 😂
I just get alot of agent Smith x Jimmy neutron ☺️
It's refreshing that he owns up to it.
To be fair, the local youth minister probably did coke too.
If there’s ever a live remake of 101 Dalmatians, they need to play the couple
You know there already is one right? It's pretty good too.
I wonder how they would adapt that into movie form
Brilliant! They would be perfect.
😯😮😲 YES
omg yes perfect
I love watching John desperately try to think of a brilliant joke while people are talking.
I do the same exact thing all the time. I go completely silent for like 10 minutes of conversation thinking of the best joke possible
filteredcreativity hahahahaha 6:20
This is him being himself. He's always this quick and witty.

You underestimate John. He's too fast to be desperate.
John owns my whole goddamn heart.

Sad
Same 😍
How does that work? Retweeting from youtube?
haha... same.
Zooey & John seem like a they're from 1950s, and their chemistry is amazing!
So true - except for the significant lack of "I was on shrooms at a Bowie show" anecdotes in the 50's...
Bowie was a born bit late to participate, but psychedelics played a bigger role in the 1950's than yo might think:
www.theguardian.com/film/2017/may/12/cary-grant-how-100-acid-trips-in-tinseltown-changed-my-life-lsd-documentary
They’re both kinda old school, I dig
Tara Oakwell you may be a genius. I wish there was a single good reason for a Dick Van Dyke Show movie, because that casting would be impeccable. (Forget the frenemies, they should BE Rob and Laura)
her laugh and his voice just give me that vibe
Usually when the guests don't know each other the conversations are stiff and awkward and James has to keep introducing new topics, but John and Zoey got along so well and the conversation kept flowing and it was really refreshing to watch
they probably knew each other from snl
That's just the magic of John
Think she hogged the show and conservation.
They look like a posh 1960's couple
I could totally imagine this. Driving around in a Pontiac, complaining about hippies. But John Mulaney just has that voice and presence.
I agree, they look like they are on a 1960's talk show instead of this show. You can simply cut out them on the right and paste them into a very old talk show and they would fit right in.
They completely do!!
John Mulaney would kill a trans-atlantic accent ngl
I love how genuinely impressed John looks at about 4:59 when he hears that Zooey is starring as Belle. Like his head whip to the audience as he starts applauding like "wow, did you guys know this??? That's amazing!"

That’s kind of his thing when there are other guests on. It’s endearing. I know people get so annoyed when jimmy fallon laughs too hard at a guest, but that’s head whip is kind of Johns equivalent of the laugh too hard, but it’s endearing rather than annoying.
I read that in his voice, thanks for that laugh
i always feel like he controls the reactions of everyone in the room even without saying a word
I really like that James has a conversation with his guests and that the videos tend to be longer than, like, a minute.
linda x He lets them speak whereas other hosts fish for short, engaging stories. It’s what people usually gravitate towards but I much prefer this style when it comes to comedians who are engaging anyway.
This is such a targeted comment😂
Graham Norton is the real king
These two should be in a movie together in the future
fla la if they ever remake His Girl Friday
Rigsby 1 yes!!!i love this idea!!!
GOD no
Tarantino
fla la yes. Needs to happen.
I could see these two playing husband and wife in a sitcom, but you don't realise it's actually a horror?! And every episode becomes sinister and sinister. Idk what they do that's creepy yet though.
They look like that overly perfect friendly neighborhood couple that offer you pie and then shove you into an oven
Lauren Steenkamp in one episode he has to walk in and lug a human head onto the kitchen table and say “ Work ended early so I brought dinner” and see her dicing up severed fingers like baby carrots and she’ll be like “ good that’ll go great with stew.”
I didn't know I wanted to watch that until now
oh my god yess i want to see that!!
Like the opposite of the Adams Family. Sounds brilliant
Zooey and John need to star in some kind of dog-themed romantic comedy.
filteredcreativity and have Petunia in it too!
I second Petunia
+filteredcreativity but who will play Cruella?
I’d definitely watch this movie. He hates dogs but is unemployed and is hired to be this snobbish working lady’s dog walker. And then a love story ensues. I’d watch that. Just imagine John Mulaney having one-sided conversations with an adorable dog sounds like a scene I’d rewatch a thousand times.

You have 3 creams and dont know what toner is....mmmhhhhmmmm
why is there no comments
MazterP28 this was the funniest line
This is true.
But what’s toner help lol
john looks so reserved and innocent and listening to him talking about him tripping on drugs is so crazy to me
bisexual agenda is being in love with both of these people
I'm straight and I'm in love with John mulaney 😂
Lana Magdić me too buddy!
😵
Honestly a mood
I love both of them, and they have good chemistry.
They could definitely be related. I'd believe if someone told me there were brother and sister. It's like they've known one another for years haha
That's because they time traveled together from the 50s
john is her real life robbie
Diana Magarian holy shit
Zooey & John have great chemistry! This was Fun
It's like they've been friends for years.
Dave H. Are they really and you're being sarcastic?
Gigi Shobaki no i believe they just met here! So no sarcasm! I agree, they give off a vibe as they have been friends yes!

Totally. Seems like these are the goofy kind of people I would hang out with, if I was in those circles. XD

He looks like both the property brothers
Yes!!! Their long lost triplet!

which Jimmy?
Which Jimmy
Fallon
Because Jimmy likes it to be more like a convo instead of storytime
Jimmy 🤷♂️
If I could just have a podcast of these three people talking in a room for an unspecified amount of time, I’d be ecstatic.
John mulaney is a national treasure
That should be the name of his next show John Mulaney: National Treasure
i like the interviews like these where john doesn’t just recite his latest standup tour
