As Trudeau addressed the Unites Nations about the fact the canadians 'get it' and understand their resposibility for the abuse of local native culture, the Mapuche tribe in southern Chile are experiencing the last days of existence. As of the end of sept. 2017, mapuche have been on a 117 day hunger strike protesting life sentences for starting forest fires. This continuing tragedy of injustice is just the lastest, but i fear is the final push to subjegate the last free tribe in the Americas. A band of people that has blunted every invasion from the Aztecs to the conquistadores. The Mapuche people need the world to know of their plight. Justin Trudeau spoke of the native american civilization in the past tense, but in Chile it is current events. Help the Mapuche now before its too late. We have a real chance to change thw course of history and stop the final eradication of the final native americans.

Some people just don’t understand, have you ever seen northern Manitoba conditions on reservations and rural areas? I have first hand. It’s amazing to see the government airing out its dirty laundry like that. It’s not bashing the country it’s being honest. All the government can do now is try and reconcile with the people and try and keep its end of the bargain . Like many other countries around the world we share the same daily struggles as and other non developed country.

Since the first nation's cannot plausibly say they would be wealthier without any historical settlement, supposing there was no Canada, we owe you no special compensation. Natural resources alone is insufficient for having a rich economy, just see the nations of Africa. First nations today should realize that they are merely citizens like the rest of Canadians with the same rights and opportunities. The reason for their poverty is because they are often preoccupied with living in reserves and living among their own people, rather than looking for opportunities and a better standard of living in the cities. We should not subsidize this kind of behaviour. We should tell them they are responsible for their own economic fortunes based on the decisions they make today.

I dont quite understand the hate for Trudeau from fellow Canadians. I’m BY FAR saying that he’s perfect, but I find he’s not as bad as our previous administrations.

I am worried about our Canada.Trudeau has been acting a LOT like all the leaders we have grown to hate.He is a reactive minister,if he sees something that looks good for his political standing,he jumps on it.Often when important topics come up,he avoids the questions or steers the topic back on to his opposition in the political race. When it came down to the USA-Canada trade negotiations,he bowed down to the USA at the last minute.
Now the agenda will turn to the North, especially seeing both the USA and Russia becoming more interested in the north. It might be years away but the THREAT is coming and likely from Russia first as they will try to take over our Canadian north regions/waters.How will Trudeau react, imo like a puppet,he will do whatever trump tells him to do.IMO we need a MUCH better leader, one that realizes the future is changing ,we need a leader that is a visionary and not a reactive minister looking for votes. In other words,Trudeau is imo more worried about his leadership than he is about Canada.

Talking about past injustice makes Canada sounds remorseful, remorse makes Canada appear different now from its past...? But the truth is the same injustice and same racism is still ONGOING in Canada, the government, joined with the media, just simply covered it up. This is exactly what happened to me. Today, the Canadian government can make me a criminal of thought only because I challenged a White supremacy theory at U of Toronto, tomorrow when there is a large scaled ethnic conflict as perceived by the White population, what can the government do to the minorities, one can imagine...

Odd to hear him describe colonialism in Canada through the eyes of the British. French were known to have good relations with the native Canadians. Samuel De Champlain founded New France (Quebec) and is an icon of peace between native Canadians and colonials. Most people don't even realize the French were upon the Canadian shores as early as 1504. The Jesuit Relations provides proof.
