    I'm in total agreement. I think that they are making a mockery of the Ardbeg name by putting out such bottlings. I think they need to go back to basics and do a great release next time. We can tell the difference between this and an honest quality scotch that will make us want to sip over and over. Thanks Erik for your honest review. I had a feeling that under the latest management, that Ardbeg was floundering. Let's hope they get things right soon.

    As long as the core range remains the same quality, then that is all I will continue to buy from Ardbeg. These special releases are just too much $ for me to spend on a gimmick. The prices of everything has gone up and I choose to spend my hard earned $ on quality and something I would enjoy. I thank you for your honest reviews. They definitely help with making purchasing decisions. For your highly recommend reviews, you have been spot on and I have enjoyed those bottles. Cheers 🥃

    Much appreciated review!! Most of us who 👀watch reviews on youtube will send a powerful message about committee releases. Not all of them are worth buying.

    I would watch a full length video of you ranting about Ardbeg lol. It was my favorite distillery as I was getting into peated scotch, and loved the core range around the time of Blaaaack. They really have lost their way since, and other than the core range, nothing excites me anymore. At least you still see good releases from Laphroaig and Bruichladdich.

    Thanks again for the honest review Erik. I didn’t buy the Heavy Vapours as for years I’ve listened to the tour guides telling me how important the purifier is to Ardbeg malt and how it makes their whisky better than their neighbours. However I have got a couple of bottles of The Harpy’s Tale as it sounded like it should be ok. Never had anything matured in ex Sauternes casks. Also 13 years old should be ok. Will interesting if you review it. Keep up the good work 👍🏽

    Erik another great video man. Your integrity is speaking volumes here. I know you love Ardbeg, but they are just crapping on our community. I just can’t buy Ardbeg anymore as a result. Thank you for being you and being brutally honest with your analysis.

    i see a bottle of the galileo in the background. that is one of my favorite ardbeg bottles ever. and i'm sad to say i only have maybe 2-3 pours of it left. if you ever travel to tokyo. there is a basement bar that has the most rare and vintage scotches in the world. well worth a visit.

    Wow, outstanding review Erik! I could not agree more! You hit everything spot on. Very interesting and I am appreciative. I am a huge Ardbeg fan but the quality of some special releases and prices are very annoying. Ardbeg 10 and UIG are my favourites!! Excellent video! Cheers!! 🙂

    The girlfriend and B.O. analogies resonated big with me. Haven't bought an Ardbeg in a year and rolled my eyes when I visited their distillery shop in June. Uigeadail made them my favorite 3 years ago. I hope Dr. Bill steps aside soon - the marketing brain virus is strong in him or the org. Not sure which.

    Gave up on the special releases by Ardbeg, the quality is not keeping up with the prices they are charging. I'll stick with the core range if I need an Ardbeg but also finding I'm not drinking those that often anymore.

    Whats the difference Erik, between a wash still & a spirit still ? .... and did you try it with different amounts of water left over different time periods ? Verdict ? (if you did) and did it make a difference ?

    • @ErikWaitWhiskyStudies
      @ErikWaitWhiskyStudies  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A wash still is a stripping run in which you are just turning beer (about 8% abv) into a distilled spirit (about 22% ABV.) The second run goes through a spirit still which increases the spirit to 68 to 73% abv. After the spirt goes through the spirit still the distiller makes cuts, removing heads and tails (which contain methanol and unwanted faints) and keep the heart. I will be doing an in-depth series on whisky production in February 2024.

    I liked the Heavy Vapours. Much better than Scorch or Ardcore. I’ll have to look for that mint flavor next dram.
    Dr. Bill has said the Heavy Vapours is 10 years old. He has said this on podcasts. It is designed to be compared to the 10 year.

    • @ErikWaitWhiskyStudies

      It definitely does not taste like more than 5 years old.

      There is no way it's 10 years old.. The lack of a still filter would not change it so drastically. And if it is 10 years old, why not put that on the bottle??

    • @danielarney8554
      @danielarney8554 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FEWGEE1because they don’t put age statements on the Ardbeg Day bottles. They should, but once you do it once, you will draw scrutiny if you don’t. Check out the Whisky Cast podcast from April or May. Dr. Bill said over ten years.

    As long as the fanboys cue up to buy these ridiculous special releases for crazy prices they have no reason to do anything different. 10, ugi, cori are it for me
