In my younger years (the 1980's) I was a lyricist writing songs for amateur bands - including a band I was in. I had a songwriting partner that usually did the music. My partner's main inspiration for writing and performing was the Alan Parson's Project and a bit of the Beatles. My 2 biggest inspirations for writing was Paul McCartney & Wings and as you probably guessed.....Eric Carmen both solo and with the Raspberries. This song pretty much summed up my feelings back then in the 80's better than I could ever write it. RIP Eric Carmen. You will be greatly missed. Thank you for all the years of wonderful music you gave to all of us.
It's 10.30pm Tuesday night 12/03/2024 and I've just flicked the T.V. over to Ch 9 in Sydney. They were showing The Raspberries "Go all the Way" I thought "Why are they playing that?" "Is Eric touring soon?" Then I thought "Oh no he hasn't died" "Has he?" My fears were confirmed by the news voice over person. "Eric Carmen was 74" Now I can't stop crying. Not only did Eric help create one of the greatest, mind blowing Guitar riffs in Rock history, he then composed some of the most tasteful Ballads of all time. Good quality Ballads are extremely hard to write. Thanks for the great music and the brilliant singing voice Eric. Eric lived a successful existence and died peacefully in his sleep. "Come on Baby!!!" RIP - Eric Carmen
I heard on Sirius radio and thought I heard wrong... I went in the house after work and checked and found out very quickly it was true, his parents lived by my grandparents when I was a kid and he use to come to visit his parents and swim at the pool from time to time when I was like 10-12 years old and I had no idea who he was then but all the life guards had a big crush on him and would try to get his attention I think I might have said hi a few times and he was always genuinely a really nice guy! Fast forward many years later when I was working at a restaurant in the Cleveland area he popped in and I spoke to him again and again nothing but kind and told him how I remembered him as a kid! Total cool dude and really love all his music so much as a grown up! Super sad he is gone but his music will live on forever!
Eric said that he used to listen to his transistor radio under the pillow when he was a teenager. That's exactly what I did listening to 'Overnight Sensation' among other hits of the time. I love this song!
Back in the early 70's, many so called experts were saying that the Raspberries could become as big as the Beatles. Obviously that didn't happen, for whatever reason. But their power pop songs were, and will always be, absolute gems. Easily one of the most underrated bands ever. And Eric was the driving force behind this band. As a 65 y/o native Clevelander, this is just one more source of Cleveland pride. "What could have been", but enjoying the memories.
I would imagine it's pretty difficult to compose music that good for a long time. the beatles only lasted what 6 years? the raspberries were amazing. if they showed up in 64. they'd have been the beatles
Well you are most welcome;-) I used to to follow his early groups at the teen night spots around the Cleveland area back in the late 60's and early 70's...I was in many garage type cover bands, and these guys were our local heroes of course!:-) Think he was raised in a southeast burb of Cleveland, Lyndhurst. He still lives in a southeast burb of Cleveland, called Mayfield Hts.. I believe.
I'm so glad they did these shows. You can see what a great band they were in their time. Even then a lot of their fans couldn't understand why the Raspberries weren't huge. They had some hits and were fairly successful. But I think this live performance demonstrates how strong they were. Instead of the Hard Rock they deserve to be playing in a much bigger venue.
My favorite Raspberries song. I used to stand in total awe watching Raspberries on Sunday nights at the Agora. They were everything a rock band is supposed to be and more. Truly sad news on Eric’s passing. A part of me died also.
Like Ringo, Jim Bonfanti is a lefty playing a right handed kit ! 4:10 one of the best drum fills ever, and same on the record, it just really knocked me out back in the 70's and still does !
This song and album should have been as big as Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "A Night at the Opera" (one year later). Instead it was their last album, before Eric Carmen went solo. We, as fans, failed this band.
I agree on them deserving greater success. Actually I prefer the Raspberries more American "Beach Boys" influenced sound over the operatic sound of Queen. I've always thought of Badfinger as the British counterpart to The Raspberries. But the fans didn't fail them. That responsibility lies with Capital Records. And the nascent, post Woodstock music publications of that time ( like Rolling Stone) and hipster FM radio considered them uncool for being so commercial and teen oriented. I'm glad they did this show. It demonstrates how strong they were and why so many of us thought they should've been an even bigger success.
It is ridiculous how great they sounded at this show -- and I mean the band, not just Eric. Are the backing vocals partly a track? I wonder only because if they're not, good lord this is amazing. And if they are supported by a track, that's cool too as the backing vocals are so intricate and they sound perfect.
@@jimbonfanti6756 seriously?! I was sure there were tracks mixed in. 50 years later and y’all are still killing it. Well crafted pop tunes, flawlessly executed… I suppose EC gets the spotlight, but the band is tighter than two coats of paint. /much respect
Yes, it's hard to finds a better killer track than this one!!! Getting in my car and 'turn the radio up!!!....full blast it almost has the same effect on me as the The Who's FULL VERSION "Won't Get Fooled Again"!!!
Stone Cold Classic-original is a fabulous production (as good as anything by Spector ) and this live version does it justice-false ends in the last 2 minutes are exquisite.
nailed it...... you can see why so many musicians write about The Bizz....Pro Music is such a hard, shltty, row to hoe. It's amazing anything decent ever makes it to the public
@@jimbonfanti6756 That's really good, you guys made so many great songs, it's just amazing. But I'll tell ya, your tune with Wally and The Choir "It's Cold Outside" I made that tune my "teen chick" swoon tune. Back when that tune was all over WIXY 1260 (Super Radio!!;-) I used to sing along to it while playing it over the telephone to teen girls I was able to get connected to over the "click line". Or somebody should do a podcast? thanks in advance Bruce
@jimbonfanti6756 with the history the four of you have together, ( good and not so good) so glad to hear you can still hang out together occasionally. precious lifelong friendships. When I listen to any Raspberries music takes be back to 1970's, all my sweet memories come flooding back. Starting with Go all the way . I remember being with and, so in love with that boy while it was playing on the car radio. Thank you Raspberries for my sweet memories.
Always really liked Eric Carmen. Wrote good songs, projected an image of virility, and thus was hot cheesecake for the barbies. Should've been a bigger personality - he surly had the talent and he projected a good, positive image. So sorry he's gone.

Yep.... PLEASE GO ALL THE WAY and ALL BY MYSELF and OVERNIGHT SENSATION among others he performed and cut by others...
God Bless him....
I was at this show. Just about speechless. The band was incredible. I was invited backstage. Bit of a party. I’ll never forget that night.
Lucky you

I’m sad too. Been singing and humming Go All The Way for a few days now. We’ve now lost another great musician I (we) grew up listening to.
I'm sick. He was my first major crush. Such an amazing talent.

I just found out a few weeks ago now. Damn what a bummer. I am an original fan of the RASPBERRIES big time
Eric said that he used to listen to his transistor radio under the pillow when he was a teenager. That's exactly what I did listening to 'Overnight Sensation' among other hits of the time. I love this song!
Me too. From the mid-60’s, to now with an iPad and headphones. I didn’t make that connection until now.
You can tell Eric was enjoying every minute of this. That's exactly where he belonged with his band the Raspberry's. Great job.
You can tell he's enjoying this song.
Spectacular. Eric is a total genius!
The record I am leaving the Earth to.... simply the best single ever made

Love Eric Carmen. A total musician. He can do no wrong. :)
RIP Eric Carmen...thank you for the wonderful music.
One of the greatest singers ever. Ditto for the group. Thank you Cleveland…..

Yep…you can thank our City for Eric and Ben Orr…..both incredible singers.
How is the Singer from Cleveland not in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland
Raspberries masterpiece.
Maybe the most underappreciated group there was. Loved them at 17..love them even more 50 years later

SUCH A GREAT SONG! Seeing this live is extra special!!! Thx, Eric, Wally, Jim, Dave and all the others who were a part of this terrific band.

Jim Bonfanti is indeed excellent but the man who played the drums on the record was the godlike Michael Mc Bride
Such a cool guy at 58 years old in 2007
❤ timeless! RIP! I saw them at Painesville Armory then The Choir, what a voice!! The best of the best! He should be in the Rock n Roll of Fame!!
Eric wasn’t a member of the Choir
Amazing how he can sing above a pretty loud rock band like that. Hes certainly underappreciated here in the UK
Always loved his music. Classically trained. He hadn’t lost his voice. “Boats Against the Current” is my personal favorite,
I always felt that this was their greatest hit.....and it still is
Thank you Eric for this masterpiece! Thanks for all the music! Rip ❤️
I was at this show 6ft away from wally Bryson!
Fn amazing bad and I've seen about 1000 concerts.
Almost as good as seeing The Beatles!

I agree.

As amazing as ever. Still firing on all cylinders - holy shit.
Awesome live version. Man that dude can sing and Bonfani on drums is 🔥
I have loved this band forever also, they still sound amazing!
Brilliant Song..Just brill
Makes me think of Brian Wilson. Magnificent ..
Eric borrowed from them, the Who and Beatles to come up with wonderful power pop cocktails. So many teen dance memories. God speed Eric.
Such a talented artist!! His music is his legacy
I knew this song, but hadn’t heard a live version … absolutely spot on - expertly executed
Crying, grateful for him. Hear him now.
What a singer, band and such a high quality audio and video. RIP Mr. Carmen, you are already missed!
Had to order this record at Woolworths when I was 11 years old and waited for about three weeks for it to arrive. A wonderful, wonderful song! 😎
