Why would MJ not call himself the King of Pop? He was very well aware that’s what he was known as. He even used the title on lots of promotion, even his This Is It announcement featured texts that said King of Pop. Not saying this song is real. But MJ calling himself King of Pop is very in character imo.

I remember from the time that MJ kinda had a conflict with Sony about his next project. Sonly wanted to release an album with cds of older tracks and one with new material. MJ hated the idea. His actual plan was to release a double album with all new tracks. Apparently the compromise was History with two cd's, one with old material and one with new material and it was released as History past present and future. MJ never liked the idea of complication albums. He was right, especially in his case. After all, the most important albums released under Epic/Sony were 'Off the wall, Thriller, Bad and Dangerous' at the time. The songs on these albums were widely known to the public, the albums already sold insane numbers. If you want 3 compilation albums you could just as well by the full previous albums anyway. But besides from that, he just didn't like the idea of compilation albums at all. MJ was an album making artist, just like Prince, he putted tracks together that fitted together on the album he worked on. It was part of the creative proces of making albums. About this track, I think this is recorded at his home studio. These home demo's often were almost finished songs that he brought to the studio where the tracks would be recorded to the final product. His home studio probably was his place to try stuff out before he was ready to to share it with his team. In his studio he had a few musicians with him as well, in rare instance his played a piano or guitar. but mostly he instructed musicians what he had in mind and let them do their thing with it to widen his creating proces.
