This is not a typical romance story. It is witty, fun, deep and demonstrates an awareness not often in reality that avoids the disneyfication often present in today’s modern print era. It is entertaining and introspective. It was a joy to read and Melanie Jacobson is one of my new favourite authors. The narrator adds the charm of optimism and cheer.
Even though I had already read (and enjoyed) this book, I decided to listen to it while traveling back and forth to visit my aging parents. I'm so glad that I did. I had forgotten how funny and sweet it was. The narration was perfect! Thank you. I loved it!
Melanie is one of my favorite authors and the narration is spot on. Thanks so much for the enjoyable time. Jack and Emily are so real and authentic. Shawn and Renae are great supporting characters (the whole Paul thing is too funny).
"I made a point of examining my pedicure peeking through the peep toe..." Why do I like this line so much? Oh my gosh! AND: "Rock climbing man-bun guy?" lol I'm not even 3 minutes into this book and I'm really digging the way this author writes... lol "grizzled Andrew" lol! too silly! lol I'm really liking this book! An hour and a half in and finally a female character who has integrity, who is smart, has empathy for others, who is funny and strong - finally! (spoiler) I'm at the part where Emily is on the boat with her boyfriend and realizes she has to break up with him... She was going to do it right then but decided against it - cuz he was so good to plan such a nice day and she didn't want to wreck it for him... so so so often authors write stupid, vapid, whiny female lead characters, it's so nice to find one with substance. (3 hours in) Oh my gosh! (spoiler) I love their first date! How unique was that! lol and so cute! (5 hours in) The dynamic between Jack and Emily works smoothly and flows rapidly - but with ease - I am really liking that. AND Emily is a well balanced, smart, put together woman, all the inner dialogue she is having with herself - I understand completely and makes me like her even more! I love how logical and self-assured she is. Dang! I'm so glad I found this audiobook - it's so rare to find a female main character who is everything I want to be in my own life. And dang! there are so many funny parts in this book - lol - like I'm laughing out loud, my window's open and the kids who are playing out there stop and stare at my window - laughing! lol (8.5 hours in) well dang, that took a dramatic turn... This started out being a sweet, fun romance, to a deep, raw, thoughtful book... My heart is aching... Sigh.... Oh what a wonderful book! I loved everything about it! The ending was short and sweet and thoughtful, and just made me so happy! I loved how it ended (Spoiler) with the shoes it had started with - oh! And another thing that was great - no sex! It didn't need it! There was so much story, so much everything I didn't even notice there wasn't any sex until this moment. I have to find more by this author! Really REALLY worth the listen!

I had to stop listening at 1:47:10, I couldn’t take the pushy roommate anymore, and didn’t like the main female character that how unappreciated she is and trying find faults on Paul’s gestures.
22 min in and I am giving up, her friend is toxic, doesn't have any respect for her relationship or her boundaries, her friends criticise her boyfriend for things she actually says she likes in him so the friend needs to back off
I love the book & now audiobook. I don’t usually comment but I was really confused in some of the dialogue who was talking. Maybe a little more voice change so we can tell make from female.
I wish they had used a male narrator for Jack, the continuity of the story line is difficult to follow when both main characters sound the same, great book though 🙂
