      You made the title of the video too idealist (in its philosophical sense). Has nothing to do with mystical powers of clairvoyance
      Just avoiding being a source for profits of imperialist countries and the interests of companies they represent
      Big hugs from a big communist guy from Russia

      When one considers how Ghanaians trampled on the gems Kwame built for them without showing remorse, one can make a correlation as to why most slaves were shipped from this area.

    Nkrumah faced a unique situation that no other leader in other continents faced. He couldn't build a formidable country with just 6 million people. He needed the buy-in of other African leaders to integrate into a country/continent with the population and resources to chart its own development. That's what partly compelled him to write and to speak at conferences to convince the rest.
    Today, we believe as a country through our leaders that only our economic enemies can save us with good advice.

    • @talkingAfrica
      @talkingAfrica  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indeed! As Nkrumah said, none of our 54 African states are strong enough to thrive on their own and as such, our only salvation is in African unity.

    We need more African stories. More African history! Thank you for taking the time and making the effort to compile this video. Africa requires an Industrial Revolution the challenge is the byproduct of industrialisation as was seen in the west and then in the east; pollution. A tech revolution perhaps? I do not have answers / solutions. Does the end justify the means? China is doing well but are its people true beneficiaries?? All I know is that if we fail to learn from history we are bound to repeat it.

      Pollution is largely the product not of industrialization, but of capitalism. You can do things cleanly, but if there's more profit undoing it dirty, then guess whose toxic waste is getting dumped in the river at night by a low-level worker...

    Great video! A brilliant understanding and presentation of neocolonialism and how Nkrumah had sought to achieve real economic independence. Question; many criticise Nkrumah’s authoritarian turn, for example he had school children chanting “Nkrumah never dies” - did he mean himself? Or his ideology as is what it seems from the quote at the end?

    • @talkingAfrica
      @talkingAfrica  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      “Nkrumah never dies” means the ideas and vision of Kwame Nkrumah - which is for the liberation and unification of Africa - will forever be relevant.
      As his quote at the end of the video says, Nkrumah’s ideas represent “the INEVITABLE path which Africa must follow”.
      That may sound like rhetoric but I believe that, after watching the video and seeing the juxtapositions made, you can see what “Nkrumah Never Dies” means.

      Osagyefo really did try to do exactly that but you know it takes times and when you have saboteurs, both internally and externally, undermining and demonizing your efforts at every turn, it makes it a very Herculean task. “There are many who believe that Ghana has never recovered from the overthrow of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah “ ? Everybody who is really interested in African emancipation believes that not only Ghana but Africa never recovered. He was the engine of African emancipation and unity. @talkingAfrica Thank you for everything you are doing to enlighten all of us. I stopped reading Nkrumah's books because I always ended up crying because of the opportunity we missed. Could you please put together the opposition Nkrumah faced in his pursuit of African unity? Nigeria of all surprise me the most.
      I didn't know Dr. Kwame Nkrumah wrote books until I left Ghana. In our O'level history exams, I actually wrote against him. The question was what were the factors that led to Nkrumah's overthrow. Nothing good but negatives! That was what we were made to believe and that hasn't changed much in Ghana. It was only outside that I knew he is still the most prolific African statesman of all time. May his soul rest in peace. Keep up the good work 👏 🙌 👍

    I have asked my Ghanaian friends too many times and never got any reasonable answer: why is the main international gateway into Ghana named after Kotoka? 😮😢

    I think Nkrumah should have done what China did. Of course, hindsight is always 20/20. You don’t make it obvious to your worthy ‘opponents’ you plan to make them worthless. You have to be sly about it. Akufo-Addo made the same mistake with his Ghana beyond aid speech, which demonstrates we don’t learn from the mistakes of others. That aside, I’m not sure if it’s due to trust issues or socialism, the government established all the factories as opposed to nurturing and partnering with the private sector. Considering we Africans are tribal, maybe he should have sold the idea of intra-continental trade (of locally manufactured products) to the others so that they don’t feel as though they are losing their identity and autonomy…(they didn’t want to swap ‘whyt’ boss with a black boss).

    • @talkingAfrica
      @talkingAfrica  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Osagyefo made clear that his vision was for the Ghanaian people to control Ghana’s economy and that is why he favored public ownership of the industries and other strategic assets rather than private individuals owning and running it for profit.
      I believe you will agree that it is better for all the people to own the wealth and profit from it than for just a few individuals to own it all like we have now

    • @gh_blaqsoap2846

      @@talkingAfrica "...all the people to own the wealth and profit..." You mean as in socialism/communism? We are tribal people, and that may not be the best fit for us. I believe N. Korea has that kind of arrangement, I'm not sure how best that's working for them. For us, culturally, we don't have the concept of common good. So the govt workers end up hiring their family members even if they were not qualified for the position. We will need to be reconditioned for something like that to work for us. I'm yet to read Nkrumah's books, but just wondering if, upon reflection, he was able to point out what he could have done differently.

      @@talkingAfrica I don't quite follow...Sorry! for whatever reason, I couldn't scroll down to read the entire write-up! Edit: I get your point entirely. But I believe you will agree with me that we are not enlightened as a people. We have poverty mentality and we even abuse the very people trying to help us get out of poverty. There is no self-reflection and eagerness for personal growth/community viability. We expect solutions to be placed on our lap. That's from experience. That's why we need to be reconditioned as a people. I've been trying to help some deprived communities with learning materials, and I can write a very long essay on my (unpleasant) experience.

    • @talkingAfrica
      @talkingAfrica  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gh_blaqsoap2846 I am saying that, fundamentally, there can be only two things. Either, all the people own the wealth of a country and benefit from it OR a few private individuals own the wealth and deprive the masses from benefiting. Which is the case in Ghana today.
