Thank you for posting. This is the heyday! Every time I see one of these, whereI attended, it reminds me how bad the track is now. MXSports making them fill in the start and add man made obstacles combined with no more cover crop seeding has just wrecked it. Would love to see today’s riders and Bikes on a track k this tough
I miss the old days! Nothing better than hearing a 500 two-stroke on the pipe! They sounded intimidating just idling when the rider is not on the gas while riding. Nice footage of Hannah, Magoo and Lechien! There were no personal buses and semi trucks back then!
Wasn't at this race , but was at "washougal" a few weeks earlier !!! Or was it later?? I was 14 ...the good ol days ..box vans ...and pit tootsies!!! Thank you .👍
Yep RIP Magoo. Great Vid, The bikes and tracks where so tuff back then, if the current stars Roczen, Dungey, Gjaser etc had to ride those bikes and tracks they would be surprised big time. 500 two stroke takes no prisoners. The tracks were rutted and bumpy because of the bikes. 60's and 70's riders have their own stories. If your'e a young rider on your 2017 250 4 stroke masterpiece of modern technology, dont think you aint like these guys, in 30 years time your kids will be on their "Tesla E hover mx bikes" thinking you look slow but you'll be saying "back in my day tracks were rough". Just my thoughts.
People you have no idea how tough this place is to ride until you walk up realize you can't walk down gravity cavity, greatest name for obstacles any where.
I was there back in the early 80's as well...dont remember the exact year...it may have been 84 but not sure.....but David Bailey, Johnny O'Mara, Ricky Johnson, Bob Hannah and of course Magoo were all there......I''ll never forget Magoo coming out of Gravity Cavity ! !
Mickey Kessler was alway strongest looking rider I'd ever,he had strong arms of any man I'd seen, great 500 rider that's what he on when I watch him race,he rode it like 250 or smaller bike he was tough, this wasn't the support race this real deal.
Oh yeah the biggest thing my older friends that worship this race, forgot to tell me was how wasted most of them got drinking, half of then never saw the race cause they were to wasted to get up till 5 pm after race was over, glad I went with my dad,wow Mick got the holeshot, imagine that, which he pretty much did every time I saw him race, cool beans...purple was Jo Jo Keller privateer hero
Wow I think this was my dilla, I was able to talk deer old dad to make 3 hours trip up north from freaking Jersey line, the one where I took 3 ,36 shot rolls of film, with a the shutter speed on the camera at 16th of one sec,108 blurry photos,Micky Kessler,I know him now,but didn't know him then,ah and to think he was one of those blurrs ,he has the motor wins at englishtown MX track,600,I used to joke with him about breaking his record, and I was thanking him for retiring the day the he retired for making it a little easier,he just laugh and said better get started,he raced e town 20 years I think,he kinda though it was funny when race he saw me start all the way on the outside like,I'd seen him do many times,I got the holeshots every time from any position on gate but I 100yards later found out why Mickey was doin it,real good jump ,outside right start left turn corner didn't have to let off just rail the berm got 30 foot lead going down first straight and was laughing so hard,I was stretching my neck up looking back to the start line to see of Mikey was laughing too,he knew that I always get great starts, and was thinking what is this crazy kid up to now starting on the outside, well I just figure I try it didn't think it would be any better, nice part was 25 rides on 40 rider gate there was 4 clear spots to my right and no one to my left one guy at the box,and I know they were all looking at me like what the he'll are you doin way the out there, everyone except Kessler, biggest holeshot lead I ever got thanks Mick leaving that gate spot open.
Motorhead great band, great, handle, don't feel special,I move to Florida with out bike, and was loaned a bike by the track, owners and sponser 92 KX 500,and got run over by the track announcer, cause his head was up his buttocks, then at my last race in north Florida,25+ class, guy next to me loses his left hands grip, face right to the cross bar I checked up for 100 ft veering off track to avoid him, somehow almost stop he falls of and goes right under my front tire as I'm bouncing to a stop on his ribs,my feet never came off the pegs, from 50 mph to stop,I called medical over and that was my last motocross race, some send off..huh.
