You didn’t even mention the “LOCATION” of splice joint in the member

I have one question.
In case of bearing or in case of moment with compressive force. The force should transfer by means of bearing but there is no direct contact between the columns as there is some gap. So how bearing will take place or again it will be tranferred through bolts?
We use cap plate to make sure that the columns are connected
