I think the point being made is that there may be a way to produce natural gas that does not require input energy from humans due to the shale not being produced at large depths. In other words, its an efficient production of burnable fuel. Its the same as saying trees are a renewable resource for energy production.

I want to see someone send a drone down. I have a suspicion the other divers died because they went too deep or got decompression sickness. The last diver was sensible, he had a rope and a depth guage to make sure he didn’t die As foe the source, its simply a spring, much like here where I live in Missouri. They just happen due to water pressure. It’s likely the river contributes to there being enough pressure to force the water out. You won’t find a source.
Simon, the Marfa lights are also a phenomenon in Australia in the outback. Aboriginals say it’s the elders walking the land keeping watch over it and they call it Min Min lights. People see it driving and it follows you as you drive along even when you change direction. Been happening before white fellas electricity or cars.

Ugh… that last one just scares the living hell out of me 🤦🏻♂️ I was really into scuba diving and cave diving in my 20’s, was certified and had been on so many dives until my last one, which was in a cave, and I was pushed way too far beyond my comfort zone by the guys I was with, and I had to convince someone to come with me because I wouldn’t push further, and unfortunately one of the guys who kept pushing on didn’t make it back, and his body was just lost (I didn’t know him personally or anything he was just a part of the group I was in, I’d only met him that day, but I still haven’t been diving since I was 28 and I’m 35 now) There’s so much stuff happening underwater that we will not only never see, because it’s just not our world under there, but there are even more places that we just should not go solely for the sake of human curiosity. I think there must just be a massive void in a fault line close to there that is just sucking in water at an unbelievably fast rate, bringing it to that spot and spitting it back out. If you think about it on the grand scale, it wouldn’t take all that much for the earth to move water like that. So I think that’s what should just be assumed is happening, rather than having people continuing to kill themselves just so we can go ‘Ah, yeah, guess that’s what’s happening 🤷🏻♂️’ lol.

We had two tanks, one on either side, and the passages were so narrow that in some spots, you had to remove your gear completely and pass it through cracks in the wall to pass to your buddy just to get yourself through. Imagine lugging around an ROV with you in that environment lol… not that kinda cave dive.
I can't add or say anything to your story. I'm glad you pushed past the peer pressure to get out of a situation you were not comfortable with. But, I think your guess about the source of the water is pretty good. Simon said it is in limestone, which is very porous. If the whole region is limestone, then any rainfall, as well as the nearby river, are probably flowing into an underground cavern, and eventually out the hole where the spring is. I actually don't find it that mysterious. The real mystery is how they've managed to stop some company from buying it, pumping the water to fill bottles for sale, and eventually drying it out.

I’m almost certain there is just some seriously hardcore fault action happening down there where water converges, probably in numerous places underground, and just creates the most insane vacuum at the place where I imagine all of the men who went diving in there got sucked into and lost their lives. Now, I’m not arguing that Atlantis did exist but given the fact that we once believed Troy didn’t either only to later have it discovered (by a dynamite happy German) I’m going to go with the idea that it might well have been an impressive metropolis that has since been taken back by the sea or some other force of nature. Because the sole source for the idea of Atlantis is explicitly a thought experiment. It's like searching for Utopia or Lilliput. Are there sunken and drowned communities and lands? Sure. But Atlantis is not and was not one of them, because it's a fictional place created to illustrate a concept of national hubris.

I was exploring mount Baker with 2 friends while high on shrooms and we found this little spot, just off the trail but not visible from it. There were 3 pine trees with the same kind of curves, all facing outward from a center point, it was like 3 perfect little seats for us to rest and smoke. And on the shrooms it truly felt meant to be
I used to live in Orchard Park. The flame is super cool although it does go out. Brave is the hiker who lights it so other hikers can see it. It’s very cool. Also, thank you for not just saying “upstate” when talking about NY lol
Well it is helpful to those of us who don't live in the US to actually identify the country and region rather than just using colloquial terms that many won't understand.
If you had grown up in that area (as I did back in the 1980's) you would understand why most who live there call it Upstate as we wish to greatly separate ourselves from the eastern area of the state (Albany, NYC and the surrounding counties). These days, I rarely even identify myself as an Upstater...wanting to distance myself from the entire state.
All you need to do to make a tree grow like that is snap it while it's still soft, but not to the point where the skin breaks. You end up with this. It's supercropping. Except those trees were obviously done in that manner for ship hulls.

A car park and amenities have been provided for visitors. Salt is extracted and sold to the gourmet market. Wear shoes please, if walking around in it. The salt will cut your feet. Greetings from Dimboola in Victoria. Come and visit the area. We have the Little Desert here too. From bush walking, emus, kangaroos, to the town's main street and a very picturesque shopping area. Friendly, welcoming people. A river with good fishing and a caravan park on the river bank. We have it ALL!
There is a pine tree in my father’s yard that has a curved trunk. The guess is that it fell in a storm and then because it’s on a slight hill it just continued growing so it now has a curved trunk. Not likely the same cause in Poland but still pretty cool.
I was going to say I've seen a similiar tree, it broke in a storm but didn't die and when it healed it healed back crooked. Not as curved as the Polish trees though.
That is actually my guess as to what happened to those trees. Simon said the people planted them. If they did a poor job, and there was some wind, they might have fallen or at least tilted over. If there was a slight hill, it becomes even easier to assume that happened.

Hey Simon! You screwed up! The picture of Flinders Peak in this video is of the Flinders Peak South West of Brisbane Queensland Australia. There is a Flinders Peak on Middle Island, Western Australia, where the Pink Lake is ,but these two peaks would be over 3000km apart.
The crooked Forest is easy to figure out. You said some of the trees were planted in the '30s they're less than 100 years old. Okay then what happened from 1939 to 45 in Poland?? World war II. What was dropped all over Poland a lot of bombs and munitions. It would make sense that a bomb went off blew a bunch of trees over that were saplings or young trees and instead of them dying they survived. And since they survived when they started growing again they went up like they're supposed to.
Pretty good theory, not sure about them all leaning north though. Germany is south of Poland however so seems to work. Someone running over the area with a metal detector should be able to confirm that reasonably quickly.
I heard a theory once that it's because of tanks rolling over the young saplings. I don't know if it's true or not but I think it's my favorite theory I've heard.

I remember seeing a crooked tree like that when I was kid. If it can happen naturally to one tree it can happen to a whole forest. The propability for that just is insanely lower.

Marfa's lights sound much like the Brown Mountain Lights about 15 miles north of Morganton, NC. Those, too, have been seen long before the road systems were in place.
You should look at the Pink and White Terraces of New Zealand. Sadly were destroyed by an eruption. There are similar places around the world, but what I wouldn't give to see the Pink terraces in person, or even in a coloured photo!
FYI Fact Boy. That is just one of 2 pink lakes in Western Australia. The other one is Hutt lagoon. It is accessible and they actually farm bacteria for betacarotene.
In my home province of Newfoundland Canada there is a family park (Three or four picnic tables and a wharf) My family and I would go to when I was young. The name of this park was crooked tree park, there were at least 20 trees just like that in proximity to where the open area by the pond is. They are uncharacteristically denser in and around this dick Euler area, leading to me believing it may be either man-made or at the very least influenced by us. 1:44 On August 12, 2020, my home was hit by the worst storm I've ever seen. The winds were so fierce that already grown trees bent permanently ENE. New trees grow straight but these trees grow - some - sideways now. Even my hedges are now crooked. They all lean to the left by about 20 to 30 degrees. Natural weather is most likely the cause of this forest, as those trees look very similar to the large oak in my backyard that was devastated and has since grown into smaller "limbs" of the same tree.
I've seen trees that are bent roughly like those in the "Crooked Forest." These grow on a mountainside, where snow sliding downhill bends young trees over. When spring comes, the bent trees try to right themselves and grow into a sort of J shape. As for the Fosse Dionne, I'd think that, rather than sending down divers, they'd use a small submarine drone with a camera, and perhaps other sensors to study the water, flow, depth, chemical composition, etc.
In some North American tribes, local natives would bend the trees in a direction just like those shown and use them as trail markers The bend pointed towards the way the natives were to travel to hunting grounds etc.

I grew up a few miles from the eternal flame! From 2010-2012 friends and I used to hike there and smoke weed at the bottom of the waterfall on a regular basis and I've used the flame to light many joints hahaha.
I live like 20min drive from the enternal flame falls in Buffalo. Orchard Park is a suburb of the city. Chestnut Ridge Park is also the best place to go sledding for free in the area and if you have your own tabagon you can use the shute for free as well.
At about 4:10, the eternal flame in the falls, Simon says something to the effect that natural gas is not a fossil fuel. Natural gas is a fossil fuel and it comes from, just like oil, the decay of dead plants and animals.
Nobody knows why the trees are bent? They didn't ask many people then as its just an exaggerated version of something the Forestry Commission have known about for decades. Lodgepole pine was seen as a wonder tree on its introduction but it was soon found that it could suffer badly from basal sweep due to genetic & external factors like wet snow. So most of the affected seedlings ended up being given/sold cheaply to local authorities as ornamental trees in the UK at least. Most of the ones that were planted as timber producing ones have been felled by now. Heck the species name is contorta because of the twisted, bent pines found at coastal areas (shore pine). Basal sweep can affect other conifers badly too, but this one is noted for it.
As an actually Northern Nordic man, I am familiar with trees and I recognise twisted trees such as the ones presented in this video. They are indeed a product of Mother Earth, I have come across several beautiful, twisted trees in my travels in the Northern forests and woodlands.
i went to the eternal flame many of times, my uncle lives 5 minutes from it, be aware its a trek going down to see the flame!! i when i lived in Ny use to live in Boston,NY so yea its nice to see its right on/near chestnut ridge ridge park, be surprised many WNYers never seen it!! Also most of WNY is under the marcellus shale region, which is under many states i believe 6-7 , its actually slow seeping methane gas aka eternal flame. The whole area erie county and other counties have gas wells all over the region. Yea the whole bottom of the creek is slippery shale, and in summer it can be a trickle, Geologists from Italy to all around come to see it and study, sometimes you bump into many foreigners/non americans hiking down in the creek,
I've been a Buffaloian for almost 30 years and I didn't get around to checking it out until 2020 aka the year of the nature hike. I really enjoyed the hike to it, as did my sister and her two toddlers, especially the splashing around in the stream part. Only problem was when we got to the flame it was out and nobody around had lighters. Will try again eventually... in hopefully less than 30 years.

I was exploring mount Baker with 2 friends while high on shrooms and we found this little spot, just off the trail but not visible from it. There were 3 pine trees with the same kind of curves, all facing outward from a center point, it was like 3 perfect little seats for us to rest and smoke. And on the shrooms it truly felt meant to be

If you had grown up in that area (as I did back in the 1980's) you would understand why most who live there call it Upstate as we wish to greatly separate ourselves from the eastern area of the state (Albany, NYC and the surrounding counties). These days, I rarely even identify myself as an Upstater...wanting to distance myself from the entire state.

All you need to do to make a tree grow like that is snap it while it's still soft, but not to the point where the skin breaks. You end up with this. It's supercropping. Except those trees were obviously done in that manner for ship hulls.

There is a much more accessible pink lake, just out of Dimboola, in Victoria, Australia. Situated on the Western Hwy, halfway between Melbourne and Adelaide. A car park and amenities have been provided for visitors. Salt is extracted and sold to the gourmet market. Wear shoes please, if walking around in it. The salt will cut your feet. Greetings from Dimboola in Victoria. Come and visit the area. We have the Little Desert here too. From bush walking, emus, kangaroos, to the town's main street and a very picturesque shopping area. Friendly, welcoming people. A river with good fishing and a caravan park on the river bank. We have it ALL!
How did the divers die? Were their bodies recovered?
There is a pine tree in my father’s yard that has a curved trunk. The guess is that it fell in a storm and then because it’s on a slight hill it just continued growing so it now has a curved trunk. Not likely the same cause in Poland but still pretty cool.
I was going to say I've seen a similiar tree, it broke in a storm but didn't die and when it healed it healed back crooked. Not as curved as the Polish trees though.
That is actually my guess as to what happened to those trees. Simon said the people planted them. If they did a poor job, and there was some wind, they might have fallen or at least tilted over. If there was a slight hill, it becomes even easier to assume that happened.
We have a pine like that. Sunlight got blocked by an oak, and the pine grew sideways for a while before going up.
@@QBCPerdition they’re all curved only at the bottom, so whatever happened would’ve been when the trees were still pretty young. I wonder if there was a winter with particularly heavy snow a few years after they were planted, or something like that?

Hey Simon! You screwed up! The picture of Flinders Peak in this video is of the Flinders Peak South West of Brisbane Queensland Australia. There is a Flinders Peak on Middle Island, Western Australia, where the Pink Lake is ,but these two peaks would be over 3000km apart.
Australia has something similar to the Marfa Lights. They're called Min Min Lights, and they supposedly predate the arrival of Europeans in Australia.
The crooked Forest is easy to figure out. You said some of the trees were planted in the '30s they're less than 100 years old. Okay then what happened from 1939 to 45 in Poland?? World war II. What was dropped all over Poland a lot of bombs and munitions. It would make sense that a bomb went off blew a bunch of trees over that were saplings or young trees and instead of them dying they survived. And since they survived when they started growing again they went up like they're supposed to.
Pretty good theory, not sure about them all leaning north though. Germany is south of Poland however so seems to work. Someone running over the area with a metal detector should be able to confirm that reasonably quickly.
If true, wouldn't we expect to see the phenomena occur in other trees of the same age in orher regions nearby? We don't.
I heard a theory once that it's because of tanks rolling over the young saplings. I don't know if it's true or not but I think it's my favorite theory I've heard.

I don't remember where I heard it proposed, but I heard one theory as to why those trees are crooked in Poland may have been due to German tanks in the second world war knocking them over, but not killing them. I've also seen the idea proposed that it was done intentionally by farmers, but because of the war they were left abandoned and never harvested.

Just before watching the final segment about the French spring and the divers dying, I was watching "Goliath Awaits," about people surviving on a sunken ship. Watching the movie made me think about the horror of dying in such a situation. Then I saw this... Not good timing.
You should do a Bio on Axel Erlandson and his living tree circus. Along that line creators of "folk art" environments around the world. Artists such Howard Finster, Nek Chand, St. Eom, Ferdinand Cheval, and Joseph Pujiula to name a few.In fact a series on outsider art could be done. All of these people have unique non traditional and complex views of the would. One outsider artist who you should definitely grant a long episode on is Adolf Wolfi. He was the first case of Art Therapy. Also a strong influence on Jean Dubbufet and his creation of the Art Brute movement. I cant find an email for you guys anywhere so im leaving my suggestion here. I remember seeing a crooked tree like that when I was kid. If it can happen naturally to one tree it can happen to a whole forest. The propability for that just is insanely lower.
I have made sunflowers grow like the curved trees in Poland and Russia by accidentally marking where I planted them with a small rock or something similar.

Marfa's lights sound much like the Brown Mountain Lights about 15 miles north of Morganton, NC. Those, too, have been seen long before the road systems were in place.

You should look at the Pink and White Terraces of New Zealand. Sadly were destroyed by an eruption. There are similar places around the world, but what I wouldn't give to see the Pink terraces in person, or even in a coloured photo!
FYI Fact Boy. That is just one of 2 pink lakes in Western Australia. The other one is Hutt lagoon. It is accessible and they actually farm bacteria for betacarotene.
In my home province of Newfoundland Canada there is a family park (Three or four picnic tables and a wharf) My family and I would go to when I was young. The name of this park was crooked tree park, there were at least 20 trees just like that in proximity to where the open area by the pond is. They are uncharacteristically denser in and around this dick Euler area, leading to me believing it may be either man-made or at the very least influenced by us. I have been adamant viewers and very big fans for years, I finally get to tell the fact boy a fact!! Cheers Simon, I hope you keep up the great work.

1:44 On August 12, 2020, my home was hit by the worst storm I've ever seen. The winds were so fierce that already grown trees bent permanently ENE. New trees grow straight but these trees grow - some - sideways now. Even my hedges are now crooked. They all lean to the left by about 20 to 30 degrees. Natural weather is most likely the cause of this forest, as those trees look very similar to the large oak in my backyard that was devastated and has since grown into smaller "limbs" of the same tree.

I've seen trees that are bent roughly like those in the "Crooked Forest." These grow on a mountainside, where snow sliding downhill bends young trees over. When spring comes, the bent trees try to right themselves and grow into a sort of J shape.
As for the Fosse Dionne, I'd think that, rather than sending down divers, they'd use a small submarine drone with a camera, and perhaps other sensors to study the water, flow, depth, chemical composition, etc.
We show footage of a caterpillar eating a broadleaf whilst discussing a creature that feeds on pines; pines have needles, not leaves. Curious.
In some North American tribes, local natives would bend the trees in a direction just like those shown and use them as trail markers

I grew up a few miles from the eternal flame! From 2010-2012 friends and I used to hike there and smoke weed at the bottom of the waterfall on a regular basis and I've used the flame to light many joints hahaha.
I live like 20min drive from the enternal flame falls in Buffalo. Orchard Park is a suburb of the city. Chestnut Ridge Park is also the best place to go sledding for free in the area and if you have your own tabagon you can use the shute for free as well.

We have min min lights in Australia, they sometimes follow cars. Just don't follow them
Nobody knows why the trees are bent? They didn't ask many people then as its just an exaggerated version of something the Forestry Commission have known about for decades. Lodgepole pine was seen as a wonder tree on its introduction but it was soon found that it could suffer badly from basal sweep due to genetic & external factors like wet snow. So most of the affected seedlings ended up being given/sold cheaply to local authorities as ornamental trees in the UK at least. Most of the ones that were planted as timber producing ones have been felled by now. Heck the species name is contorta because of the twisted, bent pines found at coastal areas (shore pine).
Basal sweep can affect other conifers badly too, but this one is noted for it.

As an actually Northern Nordic man, I am familiar with trees and I recognise twisted trees such as the ones presented in this video. They are indeed a product of Mother Earth, I have come across several beautiful, twisted trees in my travels in the Northern forests and woodlands.
i went to the eternal flame many of times, my uncle lives 5 minutes from it, be aware its a trek going down to see the flame!! i when i lived in Ny use to live in Boston,NY so yea its nice to see its right on/near chestnut ridge ridge park, be surprised many WNYers never seen it!! Also most of WNY is under the marcellus shale region, which is under many states i believe 6-7 , its actually slow seeping methane gas aka eternal flame. The whole area erie county and other counties have gas wells all over the region. Yea the whole bottom of the creek is slippery shale, and in summer it can be a trickle, Geologists from Italy to all around come to see it and study, sometimes you bump into many foreigners/non americans hiking down in the creek,
I've been a Buffaloian for almost 30 years and I didn't get around to checking it out until 2020 aka the year of the nature hike. I really enjoyed the hike to it, as did my sister and her two toddlers, especially the splashing around in the stream part. Only problem was when we got to the flame it was out and nobody around had lighters. Will try again eventually... in hopefully less than 30 years.
I live about 15 minutes from the eternal flame and I can tell you from first hand experience that it is rather unimpressive to visit 😂

It’s interesting that places such as fose exist, though I’m a proponent of “learn everything you can about it, regardless.” Dredge it up, send ROVs, thousands of divers, etc. drag its secrets into the light. Same with the Blue Holes or underwater caves. Pump em out if possible.

Marfa lights could've been possible in the 1800's if the same path was used for stagecoaches or similar transport vehicles, that allso hat lanterns hanging off of them while travelling at night.
