  • Exploring different paths from point A to point B is a great way to learn your tools and train your ears. In this video, Reuben Cohen shares his impressions after hearing different combinations and types of compression. He also walks us through his decision-making process to obtain maximum sonic impact and size on a rock song.

    these videos are gold! if it's not too much to ask could you please elaborate on that first track on your pt session? or even do a video about converters/headroom calibration . thanks

      Great topic. We will add this to the list of topics for videos.
      The first track on the PT session is a 1 kHz printed at a specific level that we use to calibrate and measure our equipment. We mostly use it to get and document settings of the A/D level. We'll go over more details about this on the video. Thank you for watching!

      @@LurssenMastering looking forward to it, i really need help with this in order to get the most out of my analog gear and a/d . i also wanted to ask if there is a particular reason for using multiple converters (ie uad d->d benchmark pitching ,capturing with mh and again d->d benchmark? ) except for src independency . thanks in advance for your time and effort you put in these videos

    Amazing video! Learning about your unique approach to mastering, and trying out the LMC plugin, has been eye-opening. My question is, I understand you work with the tube and Solid state EQs side by side. Is there a particular reason you choose to use the EAR EQ for the boosts going into the Shadow Hills? Because that would mean that the chain is Solid state EQ - Tube EQ - SH Comp - rest of chain. Is that your preferred order? Or are there times you do these sidechain boosts with the Solid state EQ?

    Awesome videos! Correct me if I'm wrong but... the Shadow Hills is not a a tube compressor, is it?

    • @jackkosto
      @jackkosto 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought this as well, no tubes as far as I know in the SH.

    • @LurssenMastering
      @LurssenMastering  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You are absolutely correct. It is not a tube compressor, it has optical and a discrete compression sections. It does have a magic eye tube indicator and thats the reason why we got used to call it a tube compressor, but it's technically wrong. Apologies for not clarifying that on the video, thank you for catching that and for watching our videos. We will make a video on how we dial the settings on our Shadow Hills compressor, stay tuned.
