La Granja is one of my all time favourites. I made the difficult decision to not back the deluxe version as I have found that I'm playing games less when they have a million extra modules. I did recently back the 'sequel', El Burro though!
Thanks for this overview. It confirms all the things I hoped this game would be for me. I first became aware of La Granja about 9 months before the KS was launched, but knew that it was coming. The original version looked a little flat to me so I was keen to experience this deluxe production of it. Hopefully not long to wait now. I'm pretty sure this is going to become one of my partners favourite games with potential to be her absolute favourite.
I received my copy last week and played the solo mode. David Turczi... enough said. I can see throwing in several modules with every game. The Ladies of La Granja and the Broken roof tiles is a must for even the base game. Thanks for the review. I agree this game should be talked about again.
Love the artwork on this. Ill have to give this a try in Boardgamearena. I also did try Istanbul and was wondering why that game doesnt get talked about as much anymore? Older at this point? Also, just want to share some knowledge. I believe its pronounced La Gran-ha (as in hamlet) . thanks again for the review, you are probably my favorite board game reviewer.
Great review! Got my copy last week. The only correction is how pronounce "La Granja". La granja" is Spanish for "the farm." "La" is pronounced like the "la" in "lamb." "granja" is pronounced "grahn-hah." The "j" in Spanish has a sound similar to an "h" in English. So all together, it sounds like "la grahn-hah."
There are two ways of saying it: the j is either p4onounced like soft j like in the english word "yes". Or hard as a hard rolling "chr". Depending on the local dialect...
Looks ok. Quite happy playing the original. Not easy to swallow paying $150 CDN for a game I already have no matter how much bigger the dice are. Thanks for the look though. Cheers.
I have the original and think I’m one of the few that thought the art was just fine already. The sequel, El Burro, looks interesting too. Pledge manager currently open on Gamefound.
I'm happy with my original. Smaller box and board, and I actually like the graphics better. We play a 2p game in about 60min, and I'm not keen on dozens of modules. Still an excellent game, and glad it gets more recognision.
I backed this version and received it, And the box is a beast! I need to play it- need to play Solo first probably not sure who in my moms game group will like this one.
The deluxe version looks like the way to go. Everything just looks easier to see and use. I found the original too fiddly and it really did distract from what I thought to be a very enjoyable game.
I knew you would love La Granja. It is actually in my top 10 games. I absolutely love it.

This designer is great! Cooper Island is one of my favorites as well.

You sure it's not La like in "Las Vegas"? Lamb sounds off to me...
@@mikaeki5245 La "granJA" like "Jalapeño".
@@Max-pj9km yes. Except I was not talking about that, but the LA.

Would be interesting to know what other KS games you have backed or are in the process of backing
I don't back many at all. The only game I've backed this year is the Carson City reprint.
surprised you didnt review the expansions? are they any good?
I'll probably review them all together down the line
Would like to know how you pronounce Mojito or Jalapeño. Same thing.

If I had a dime for all the people that pronounce this game 'La-Gran-Ya'
La "GranJA" is pronounced like "JAlapeño".
I pronounce my way haha
Ohhh. This game looks beautiful. But dice games are a pass for me.
