This was a fun one! I have two tips for you. 1: Get dividers with pockets for recipes you haven't tried yet so that they are in the appropriate section and are right up front so that you don't skip over them. This way you don't have to bother with a sheet protector or post-its until you decide to keep it. 2: Keep the recipes for the current week outside the binder (I keep them with my handwritten meal plan) so you don't need to go searching for them, then just file them away when you're done with the week and onto planning the next week. Also, I do keep my sides in the same binder as my entrees so that I'm usually just working out of that one binder for dinners. Always love your videos!!!
Hi, I’ve been doing this for about 10 yrs, I write down things on the recipe if we want to change it for next time, plus some recipes we love, others are ok, so what we do is give them a grade A-C, anything we didn’t like, obviously we toss, we love the grading system. Have a good week.
I have recipes for both house and camper. I was kinda sad, myself I would probably not reprint soiled recipe cards. To me it makes them special. Especially since quite a few cards are written out. I like to see my mothers hand writing.
Never thought about it that way, that does make them special! Wow and if it is a recipe card that has been passed down in your mom's handwriting keep that for sure!
I really loved this video! It's like she read my mind because I have been thinking about updating and sorting my own recipes. A lot of good ideas in this video for sure. I just love how her brain works, there is something so fun and satisfying about seeing her go through those papers and having all the materials at hand to finish the project. It's just nice. :)
I wrote my recipes , I have typed some up. Don’t have many recipes but putting them in a binder is key. When I pass away my kid will remember and know how to cook the meals he likes. He eats everything I give him since little that’s the key don’t make food difference form them because then you just thought the child that from now on “ you don’t like it you get something else.❤
I have a recipe binder, but it’s like your first one you described- one giant one with everything! I like the idea of breaking them down into smaller categories over multiple binders. Thanks for sharing! 😊
I’ve been doing binders for years. It’s a great system, but like you, my binders are too small. Now I’m motivated to clean them up and reorganize. Thanks so much for doing this video. 💙
I loved this video specially because I am in the process of doing the exact same thing and although it takes time I am happy to see that I choose the right way to organize my recipes. Thank you!
I have been needing to go through my huge recipe binder and have been putting it off b/c I know it will be a big undertaking. I believe you just gave me motivation I need. So hopefully I can make it through and maybe have a new simple system as well.
A super helpful video which has come along at the right time for me! Sophie I would love to see how you create the front cover sheets and the spine titles. Thank you for sharing😊
Many years ago I did what you are doing now, except I made a notebook for 2weeks worth of meals to do, from veggie, salad, breads drinks etc. mainly for going shopping, less time in the store . I did a notebook for appetizers and drinks because we have friends who drop in and we start out with them and move on to cooking or eating out. I have just now made one for slow cooker, instant pot and make ahead freezer meals, will see how that works out. Just wait it will kept growing in making books it seems. LOL
I do something similar with recipes. I use pocket dividers and ALL my untried recipes go into those pockets for each category. I also put a table of contents in front of each section…it is a lined paper that I just hand write the page number and recipe on that page. Each category starts fresh with a page 1 so it is very easy to just keep adding tried and true recipes. I got rid of almost all my regular cookbooks!
Great video. Good info. You look very healthy. I love seeing the day in the life series you're doing and seeing how you fit in exercise. Also, I like your shirt.
Enjoyed watching you update your recipes! I have one big binder and you have inspired me to break into multiple binders. Looks like it will be easier to handle.
“AVID” watcher and subscriber here!!!! 🤩💜 I think you should put these binders/dividers in the Sophisticated Organization shop! Like you aren’t busy enough 🤣🤣 Hi, Jim!
My recipe binder system is similar. I have one for tried & true recipes and one for recipes that I want to try or have tried but need to make some changes. Both are subdivided by categories like yours. 😊
I have the old style recipe box, with all my recipes on recipe cards , and it’s a hot mess. Do you recommend me taking time to type them all out and putting in binders like yours? That’s a bit overwhelming, but maybe it would be worth it. If you have a different idea of what to do with my cards, please let me know! It’s a project I have put off for way too long! I love your videos, Sophie! You are an amazing young woman!
All great suggestions from other commentates! I would also look into sheets that hold your recipe cards! They sell 3 Hole punched sheets usually with two “slots” on each side to hold recipe cards! You can then add in the recipe cards you want to keep along with some new recipes!
How long did that take you in real time? Just curious. It would have taken me hours, but you're so organized in the first place and I think categorizing and planning and executing is almost second nature to you! Loved the video!
I still love index cards for recipes. Writing things down makes me not get too obsessive in collecting them. Super easy to flip through and sort because they are vertical. My mom writes the date she used the recipe and whether it was good on the recipe. I don't think it's dumb to keep the "don't like" ones.
Does it mattr how long you leave your labels on before tranfering with transfer tape. I left mine on for just a few hours and the cricut tranfer tape would not remove the labels from the smart permenant label page
Totally depends on what you are looking for! We found hello fresh to always have good meals, but as someone who enjoys to cook I found myself craving more complicated recipes or ones I could repeat in the future. It would be great for someone who is a newer cook or wants fast recipes. We liked sunbasket and have heard great things about purple carrot.
Is this a better way than saving them on Pinterest? I've often thought about making a binder, but wasn't sure about it. I also have recipes saved under various holidays or events, i.e. Fall, 4th of July, Birthdays, Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc.
Completely personal preference. I love cooking from recipes on paper. I hate using my phone, iPad, or computer in the kitchen. The screen always locks and my hands are messy or I want to use my device for something else and have to keep switching back between screens. Paper is just easier for me!
Great video. Instead of binders I use magazine boxes. For my favorite, go to recipes, I keep a copy on my cloud drive in case I need to refer to a recipe when I am at the grocery store. Not really a recipe organizing tip. I do all my cooking for the week in one day. It takes me a few hours. I may freeze part of it to use during another week. I started this while I was working full time and decided to keep it up in retirement.
Could you show how you type out categories on your computer, step by step. Make believe you don’t know how to use a computer.ha. It must be so wonderful to know how to do all you do.😊 how did you get all your recipes to be the same size sheets? I literally have a draw full of cut out recipes from old magazines that are about six inches by six inches. What would you do with cut out little size recipes? My recipe boxes that I do have are packed and really not very functional. Your system is a dream.🥰
What I always get hung up on is if I want to type the recipes so they all look consistent (which takes time) or if I just want to print them out and then write all the changes I make 😬
I have so been there! Perfectionist in me wants everything to look consistent, I obviously opted for the just printing and writing things in when necessary.

I need to find some with pockets that extend out past the paper, that is a great idea!
@@SophisticatedOrganization I use the Target Up&Up brand.

You can do it!
I love these ''Office Supplies'' type videos. Great work on these binders ! 😊
The best, thank you!!
Great video! I use a separate binder for new recipes. I have found that’s an easy way to keep track of recipes I haven’t tried.
I really like that idea!
Awww this reminds me of when my Andrew was little and I had my recipe binder. My recipes were all from Taste of Home.
Love that!

Oh yay, I'm so glad!
Love your channel! I've always been an organizer and a colour coder but even so, I always learn something new from your channel!

Before you type them out, check online first......I have found a LOT of old, old recipes online.....then just print it off.
Or scan and print instead of retyping!

A little less than 2 hours probably! I did it during nap time!
Loved this video I would also love to know the amount of time this took you start to finish in order to plan how much time to set aside
Less than 2 hours for sure! Filmed it during nap time 😊

Index cards are another great way to do it, and yes probably smart to keep the don't like ones so you don't repeat them!
I would like to know where you got the dividers. It can be difficult to find dividers that go out far enough over sheet protectors.
My jury-rig fix is to put a piece of card stock in a sheet protector and then stick a tab on the sheet protector.
It's honestly impossible!!! I used old ones I have had since I was in school. They are from Russel and Hazel, not cheap but they do work!
You motivated me to check on Amazon to see if such a thing exists. They do sell them on Amazon, but they’re definitely pricey.
Luv it

Shouldn't matter! I'm actually not a fan of the cricut transfer tape because I find the hold to be a bit too strong!
