As weird as it sounds, I want to play EVE mainly because of the appeal of a 100 percent player controlled market. The combat aspect of EVE sounds hella fun don't get me wrong, but I think this is what I see myself doing. Thanks for posting this vid!
+L brea yup, I love the combat just as much as anyone, but my favorite part is logging onto my freighter alt, heading to Jita, stocking up on necessities then heading into lowsec to stock up my corps&other friendlies stations with a +50% markup ;) someone has to do it, and most people in lowsec will always pay to avoid a long trip themselves
you all prolly dont care at all but does any of you know a trick to log back into an instagram account?? I was stupid lost the login password. I would love any assistance you can offer me.
4:00 - So you can buy/sell/trade GROCERIES in this game?! Winner winner, frozen virtual chicken dinner! That's quotable; so much so that I'm putting it in my notebook. 6:50 - "It is an eternal truth in [commerce] that people pay for convenience."
I watched this video 3 months ago, I already had about 20b from seeding 0.0 markets, but this took me to an entirely differently level. I bought a trade character and decided to mess around with 2b on that character, that character now has 30b alone, adding my collective total to about 60b in isk and assets. TY MY MANLEY
This actually got me started pretty well, I have to thank you for this tutorial, it was very helpful on a lot of areas in trading :) I personally started 2 weeks ago, and so far I had like 8 friends joining me on EvE Online, as they heard me talking about it haha, so im sharing your video with them ;D Hope to see more EvE online videos in future!
Thank you so much for making this video. As somebody who is slowly bleeding ISK everday due to economic ignorance, this was very informative! If you have anymore insight for any aspect of EVE, I would appreciate future videos.
You can do it, just warp from belt to belt looking for 'commande' NPCs but some days you'll make 100million and the next you'll make 10, it's very much down to luck and it's easy to get bored doing the same thing for hours on end.
That depends on market conditions cerlestes.de has an ore price calculator that puts Kernite as the mineral of choice right now, that's found out in Amarrian space (Domain, Tash-Murkon, Devoid, Derelik, Kador, Khanid or Kor-Azor regions)
Well back before Tyrannis mineral prices had dropped so low that I was able to make money insurance scamming - buying or building battleships for less than the insurance payout and then self destructing them. Then Tyrannis came around and I flipped all my money into NPC planetary commodities which were certain to rise in price, that put me up to about 10billion ISK. Later I figured out that the demand for Nocxium was so high I made a profit refining cheap items it for the nocx. Opportunities.
I didn't watch the entire video but another aspect of trading in EVE is to be on the test server. One of the most powerful market movers in EVE is the nerf bat and if you know something is going to get changed before others, you can use that. An example, Meta 4 large energy neuts went from 400K to 1.1 mill in Odyssey as a result of changes to an Amarr battleship bonus. That's 250% if you purchased a few thousand of them.
Scott you got me into an odd position, I "played" eve a long time ago, I say "played" ... since allot of my time was offline skill training. Your videos made me decide to give it another try, with my first month coming to and end and concluding I probably wouldn't come back I decided to gamble all of my ISK on a website I found... and to my surprise won 2.5 billion ISK. So I figure I should play for at least another 4 months but I have no clue what I should be doing.
For hauling I would suggest using courier contracts. You are looking at the ability to move alot of stuff through-out most of high sec for low prices. This way pays other people to take the time to move it. It will allow you to spend time doing other things. Trading between systems is more or less a "meh" kind of thing. What I did starting out was taking things to Level 4 mission hubs from Market Hubs. Generally ammo, drones, a few ship fittings while avoiding the "ship" market itself.
Good video Scott. I just started eve about a week ago. Im gonna try out a few of the real simple ideas that you showed and mess around with it a bit. I also enjoy your kerbal space program videos too. Thanks.
Tip: go into your settings page of the market and tick "Mark my orders", they'll show up in blue now and you can right click and modify them from the market view itself, rather than going through the orders tab...
For high sec I would say run missions to get level 4 missions. They are pretty easy and keep you in high sec. This also allows you to see what drops in the missions to be able to put up buy orders at cheaper then selling price to also use that as a revenue for isk making.
Thank you for the brief tutorial on the market I was unsure how the market worked in eve but this cleared up a lot of my questions. See you in Jita Friend 07
You have the patience and the attention span of a saint, I personally just want to fly my space ship and do fun things. Like shoot other people, or crash at orbital velocity into a planet and make a new crater. The stock market isn't exactly gripping game-play to me.
What are the other types of money making schemes? Which is second best if trading is best? You're pushing me further and further towards starting Eve with all these great videos, just have to get some exams out of the way first!
If you want to so this, sometimes you have to haul to other stations, I watch the markets in Jita for 2-3 hours, look at Eve-Central and look for opportunities simultaneously. If I see a better deal somewhere, I haul the item there, and profit :) And look for items with larger margins, stay away from statics like minerals.
Great video, there are a few points that you missed but those mainly come from experience and cant really be described in videos such as knowing when to buy out a market or to pull out of one, trading has literally paid for my 7 accounts for the past year or so. I started off trading in pos modules and have come a long long way. Also jita is probarbly one of the hardest places to trade due to the speed that the market changes, you can make alot of isk there, you can also loose a whole lot more
Scot Manley. Man of many trades. Astrophysicist , Astronomer, Programmer, DJ, Meteorologist ,Geologist , Astrologist , nuclear physicist, TH-camr ,musician , father of 2 beautiful children and professional Scotsman lol . And now! Professional station trader . Whats next ? lol Veterinarian ?
Go with an Iteron IV you can cap out around 40k m3. That will jump from profit margin up quite a bit. Once you feel you've outgrown that trade up to a Orca for around 500k m3 of various space.
So the caracal is a great pvp ship... Hmmmm... I bought one with my hard earned isk and when I announced it to my corp they all said it is useless in battle. So I sold it and decided to stick to destroyers and frigates until I can get a scorpion or raven.
Scott Manley Wow thanks for replying Scott! I am now 23 hours away from flying a Raven, well I still need the ISK though xD. Exploration seems a strength of mine so it's cool. And useful picture, although, I don't understand half the terms used in it. Just so I don't waste any more of your (most certainly) precious time, I'm gonna ask my corp what they mean. Thanks again, and fly safe. Ohh if you are reading this I would like to ask a question: Do you still play EVE? And if yes do you plan on making more videos of it?
I remember making millions of ISK in EVE online till I got feed up with having to pay monthly and it was taking a large chunk of my life. I might play again if they ever make it a one time fee. Heck I'd pay $100 or more so I never have to pay another monthly fee.
Maybe you misunderstood me, maybe not. I want to be the one hauling :P i like the idea of being a "space trucker" type thing. I was hoping for a bit of a guide on it. Though your suggestions are very interesting, i'll have to check it all out.
You set up buy orders which allows people to sell items to you. When people fill those orders, you then take your newly bought product and you put in sell orders at a higher price which then allows people to buy from you. And it's almost impossible to make a PLEX on a trial account.
Hey there Scott. I've been debating this in my head quite a bit. I currently run 3 accounts. A Combat/pvp main, A Mining alt and a Trader alt that deals with Jita regularly. Would it be wise to keep them all on seperate accounts? Should I move my trader over to my main account and just log on him to check orders? Or would it be better to keep him separate so I can stay logged into him? I keep all my accounts logged in when I'm online so I can multitask and check things constantly. Opinions?
You can use Neocom for the iPhone to track orders and everything else in Eve. You just can't add something or change anything. Your still required to login for skills and other stuff. You used to be able to use TS3 on an iPhone but its gone now.
yes provided the item in question is in stock. pretty much everything is bought, sold and produced by players not by npcs. not every station is selling everything simply because no one there sells that product. its semi free to play right now so you might want to check it out.
Hello, i'd like to start a station trading alt and i've got a few questions: Is Jita ok for starting ? What's a good amount of isk to start with ? Also, what item do you suggest to start trading ?... I've seen this video 1 month ago, and so i don't actually remeber if there are the answers to my questions ...
haha, good luck forcing your friend into playing XD (unless they already really want it). I've bought a couple games for me and some friends to play thinking they would enjoy them but they ended up getting bored quite fast :/
Scott, I've heard it was possible to get a PLEX in the 21 day trial by run around in 0.5-0.7 sec systems and going to each belt and looking for faction wrecks and looting from them. I saw a faction wreck once when I was mining and the loot was a 45 mil warp scrambler. Do you think this would be a easy way to get a PLEX if someone doesn't want to do trading?
i'm thinking about getting into the game, but i don't feel like putting down 15euro a month, i heard that you can pay ingame currency for your gametime aswell, how much does that cost on average and how hard is it to get that amount as a new player?
Is there a program or website where you can enter your API to see how much isk you are making via the market? Something easier than a spreadsheet that I have to use everytime I create or modify an order. I would like to be able to keep track of things I'm buying and selling to insure that I'm not losing money in any item via price fluctuations.
Dear Mr Scott Manley Could you please please pretty please do an eve guide on haulage/trading between systems? IE, what sort of ship you would use depending on race, how you'd start out, useful sites, etc etc I'd be eternally (Yep, for eternity) Grateful, as i've just started playing and thats what i want to do Thank you in advance

Have a look at Dual Universe (on kickstarter), its economy is truly 100% player controlled (no NPCs whatsoever)
Zero Jake Thanks!
10 months later now...
how did it go?
+L brea yup, I love the combat just as much as anyone, but my favorite part is logging onto my freighter alt, heading to Jita, stocking up on necessities then heading into lowsec to stock up my corps&other friendlies stations with a +50% markup ;) someone has to do it, and most people in lowsec will always pay to avoid a long trip themselves
you all prolly dont care at all but does any of you know a trick to log back into an instagram account??
I was stupid lost the login password. I would love any assistance you can offer me.
Didn't realize how old this was until I saw the PLEX prices. We need a hero to fix this.
I'm not a solo PVP'er by any means, but joining fleets is the most fun I've ever had in any game.
4:00 - So you can buy/sell/trade GROCERIES in this game?! Winner winner, frozen virtual chicken dinner!
That's quotable; so much so that I'm putting it in my notebook. 6:50 - "It is an eternal truth in [commerce] that people pay for convenience."
Actually, yes, yes you can.
gotta love how the missiles in EVE have aerodynamic fins.
Yes all the minerals on the market come directly from player activity, mostly mining, but some come from reprocessing loot dropped by NPC's
I watched this video 3 months ago, I already had about 20b from seeding 0.0 markets, but this took me to an entirely differently level. "Sky stop breathing" = Epic
Sky made the day, well done. Been there done that , loved every moment when they are young.

how i long for the days of the 500mil plex xD
Tell me about it. Its over a billion now!
Gabriel Petroff 1.3 billion xD
1.5b and the ui sucks now and aura sounds dumb :(
TheMuskyChode 1.6B now
3.5b now
Good video Scott. I just started eve about a week ago. Im gonna try out a few of the real simple ideas that you showed and mess around with it a bit. I also enjoy your kerbal space program videos too. Thanks.
Is it weird if I say I love hearing your voice XD it's so soothing
Tip: go into your settings page of the market and tick "Mark my orders", they'll show up in blue now and you can right click and modify them from the market view itself, rather than going through the orders tab...
Crazy to see the price of plex in this 566m now 820m in Jita lol
FinRanomness Have ou considered, that was MY opinion?
The Fullmetal Titan It wasn't an opinion, it was a question, which I answered.
And now its 3m ...mhhh but you also need like 500 of it to have the equal use of an oldstyle PLEX
Thank you this video was very helpful. As soon as I saw trade skills I knew what I was gonna do

Hey Scott, Great video. I analyze game economics at my channel and you did a very good job with the Eve market!
"How to be a hedge fund manager in EVE Online!"
Hey man. Thanks for the tuts. It helped newbies alot how to make ISK from trading. Great job!
Kids rumbling at the background :D
Great tutorial, thanks!

(besides, that's just my Trade alt)

You should make a series where you start a new character with no skills and start with a small starting capital and work your way up by trading.
This is awesome!! You should do more vids like this!!
Go with an Iteron IV you can cap out around 40k m3. That will jump from profit margin up quite a bit. Once you feel you've outgrown that trade up to a Orca for around 500k m3 of various space.

I started playing this finally it's soo confusing but sooo fun!
I've been watching your videos for years now and I had now idea you had THAT much money.. I think another how to make money video is in order.
I remember making millions of ISK in EVE online till I got feed up with having to pay monthly and it was taking a large chunk of my life. I might play again if they ever make it a one time fee. Heck I'd pay $100 or more so I never have to pay another monthly fee.

Hey, are you still playing EVE?
Incredibly awesome video and great work! :)
No
if you do it and love it and
have learned the skills to make more orders and save fees and tax you can easily make 1b+ isk
Also, your bank is 89 billion in this video, that is close to the 91 billion that the persons screenshot had.
You can use Neocom for the iPhone to track orders and everything else in Eve. You just can't add something or change anything. Your still required to login for skills and other stuff. You used to be able to use TS3 on an iPhone but its gone now.
this video was freaking awesome
This might be old but hope you seen this, in this game, can you buy things like weapons ship etc in any station market just like on Elite Dangerous ?
yes provided the item in question is in stock. pretty much everything is bought, sold and produced by players not by npcs. not every station is selling everything simply because no one there sells that product. its semi free to play right now so you might want to check it out.
wow, i didn't know bout some of those things, just wow really helps me as a new player.
Im trying to figure out how to encourage trade in our freeports.
we have a player owned station fitted with a market but barely any trade.
You can always pay people to courier the items for you.
You should totally do an eve LP.
Hello, i'd like to start a station trading alt and i've got a few questions: Is Jita ok for starting ? What's a good amount of isk to start with ? Also, what item do you suggest to start trading ?... I've seen this video 1 month ago, and so i don't actually remeber if there are the answers to my questions ...
this videos great! I cant wait to get into eve and try this stuff out.
haha, good luck forcing your friend into playing XD (unless they already really want it). I've bought a couple games for me and some friends to play thinking they would enjoy them but they ended up getting bored quite fast :/
Scott, you have 6 billion ISK in Escrow!
good items can go bad in hours, and vice versa. you have to find them on your own
Perfect voice. Thanks for video!
subscribed and liked thanks for a fantastic insight in to eve trading a great help
You don't have to pay a monthly fee. If you're good at Eve, you can just trade PLEX and play for free.
have you considered doing something like an EVE Let's play?
Thank you very much, Scott!
Starting out playing.....This game is so daunting.
i'm thinking about getting into the game, but i don't feel like putting down 15euro a month, i heard that you can pay ingame currency for your gametime aswell, how much does that cost on average and how hard is it to get that amount as a new player?
More like a fat bounty on my head.....
Is there a program or website where you can enter your API to see how much isk you are making via the market? Something easier than a spreadsheet that I have to use everytime I create or modify an order. I would like to be able to keep track of things I'm buying and selling to insure that I'm not losing money in any item via price fluctuations.
Scott are you in GSF? I ask because you mentioned Hulkageddon. I'm in SMA btw. lol
actually, you can do 3lvl missions with one your friend alltime and salvage all wreck. 15-50mil for 6-8 hours for each of you.
WOW thanks for the very important info budd..
Dear Mr Scott Manley
Could you please please pretty please do an eve guide on haulage/trading between systems?
IE, what sort of ship you would use depending on race, how you'd start out, useful sites, etc etc
I'd be eternally (Yep, for eternity) Grateful, as i've just started playing and thats what i want to do
Thank you in advance
You can't, but you can buy gametime for ingame currency, thereby eliminating your subscription fee.
Spartan what you say is true but people wont just stop mining and selling the minerals. You can have 1 or 2 big groups worth together to try and raise the prices but there are 400k people in Eve so globally that would be impossible.
Great Video Scott! thanks
I never knew you could do trading runs for NPCs, I'm surprised thats in the game at all hah.
Scott, I have a question. No one can seem to give me a clear answer. Are all of the mined resources brought to the market by players? So say if players stopped mining, there would be a shortage of mined resources on the market? So if this is true would this game be a player driven economy?
Sorry if its a weird question, I am trying to get the hang of this game, dont know much about it yet. Thanks!
Scott im a bit on an idiot and i dont know english so good..so basicly you buy something thats cheap in 1 system and then u go to somewhere where they buy it for more money? and u can make a PLEX in 21 days?
Thanks for mentioning :)
How do you turn your HUD off when cruising around in space?
scott are you going to do a live stream tonight?
Nice stack of plexes... ;)
when did you record this? im searching caracal on the market in Jita 4,4, and only see 500-1000 volume :/
Really well done. grats!
Scott, I am trying to get into trading, I was wondering if I could contact you in game and maybe get some help?
I have no idea how people make money doing this in Jita. The margins are so razor thin. Over 2 days I bought 70 million isk worth of about 40 different items, then resold them for a total profit of 200k isk. Whoopy do. Is there an easier to find items with a larger margin?
I saw your comment on the other video, what do you have against Eve?
The moment you find out you've been doing it all wrong..
heh. hes actualy the only one of my friends who is interested in eve :P
hey Scott, is it possible to make decent margins in mass production and such?
Look at the volume being moved. (the bottom bars)
