The viewpoint of Louis is just another excuse we make to loath in our problems because that’s what’s easiest. The entire reason humans are where they are today (despite having endlessly more problems and hardship than we do now) is our tenacity and will to improve on ourselves.

Excuses are sometimes part of it and it's not black or white. But some people have genuinely shitty circumstances they didn't create themselves, that most people would not have the will power to overcome.
@@darkcranny3851 it’s a mindset, and also yes 100% SOME people are victims of circumstance in things like disability and country they’re born in, but aside from that virtually everything is up to you. Paying attention to diet is no more expensive than eating shit, working out is completely free in most cases and even if you’re extremely busy all you need is a short period before your shower or instead of another form of entertainment. Also, in terms of sauna usage gym memberships can grant you access to all that shit if you’re genuinely interested in it for literally less then the price of one family meal a month. Like I’d love to know what is the impossible obstacle it’s just a ridiculous excuse to mope around life and is exactly the type mindset that is why people are stuck in the mud thinking like Louie where “this is it, this is my shitty life”

It's not that any specific health practice is unrealistic (though maybe 90-minute sauna excursions are); it's that the act ITSELF of focusing so much time and energy to discover the optimized strategy to maximize personal well-being (literally Joe Rogan's entire persona it seems) is not something people who are swimming in debt with 3 kids rushing around between an underpaying shit job, the dmv, the grocery store, kids' school, etc have the time to think about. They just literally can't afford to think about anything else... And if you don't get that, there's a really really good chance youve never actually had to support yourself + others while being poor.

That was interesting, Louis was pointing out that their lives are so far removed from the average mans life that it's ridiculous, but Joe doesn't seem to be able to see that. I think Joe still likes to see himself as a "common man" but hasn't really realised that his success in life has slowly shifted him away from a common life and that the things he does on a daily basis are pretty extreme to the average guy and not something we could see or imagine ourselves being able to do.
Its all relevant i think, in America the average 'joe' is living in a bubble compared to someone in a 3rd world country... I do feel Joe got somewhat triggered by what Loui was trying to point out

Even my local YMCA has a sauna and I love going there after a workout or swim. No cold plunge. What I love here is Louis CK pushing back against the whole extreme body optimization racket. Every commercial on every podcast is some kind of supplement, or powder or pill or whatever. It is for men what instagram is for women. It's so weird to see people base who is the better comic simply by popularity. I promise Joe Rogan is so low tier when it comes to comedy, yet his podcast is so successful that people connect that with his stand-up. Louie's level of comedy is so superior to Joe's in so many ways. It's honestly not even close. Joe takes himself way too seriously, and his comedy is so pedestrian that more people can connect on a base level. But Louie's comedy has layers. Joe is so popular because he was one of the first to really lean into podcasts and his MMA. He is not known for his comedy.

I did that in Norway. Cooked in a sauna, then ran and jumped in a frozen swimming pool! I swam faster than at any other time of my life and jumped out. Never again.
One of the reasons I love Louis CK so much is I feel like our brains work in the same way when it comes to comedy and philosophical ideas. SO many times I have been watching him and have been yelling "yes! thats exactly how I think!". This is yet another time where I have thought the same thing as him.
This has to be one of the biggest "wooshes" from Joe.
They're both right. Louis is saying that the work you put into optimizing gameplay ruins the game, and Joe finds that the work to optimize the gameplay gives the game meaning.

@Jurica Dogan no the real woosh is that Joe still thinks buying a sauna is achievable for a normal person. Most people rent, and cannot even buy a sauna. Joe doesn't realize how out of touch he actually is, and louis is showing Joe that even the conversation is rediculous because most humans (even most americans) will never have easy access to a sauna. What Joe finds as conversation isn't at all relatable to a normal humans experience, and it was silly to compare it to being able to buy and wear shoes.
Joe doesn't do one converstation about unhealthy food, without immediately mentioning that he works out. It's like a verbal tick.

Finally Louis is saying what a lot of us are thinking. As a rich person it's fine for you to talk about rich things. You also need to know that 75-95% of the world's population isn't in your tax bracket and don't have the same luxuries as you do. A lot of people are working multiple jobs, and barely making bills and are making hard choices like food or electricity, and can only dream of a gym membership let alone their own personal home gym with sauna and cold plunge. Everything in Joe's life is taken care of, his mortgage, bills, savings, retirement, plus his kids college tuitions, insane job security, access to nearly unlimited resources at work and outside of work has access to the best of the best and often given for free just to be sponsored by him/featured in a post. I like Joe, but there's times him and other stars begin to be a bit delusional about the world around them.

Yeah I don’t think the guy hanging drywall all day is concerned that his cold shock proteins and his heat shock proteins are not in balance. Rogan’s job is sitting around in a custom building with all his favorite toys, getting stoned and drunk and eating mushrooms with his buddies…. that is literally his job and he gets paid millions of dollars to do it. It’s amazing given how fucked up the world is and how terrible most folks in the world have it that that life is even a possibility, let alone a reality for someone.

Alternating between extremes is not "moderation". Moderation is having a couple of spoons of ice cream a day, or a glass of wine, not binging a bucket or drinking yourself senseless once a month or so.
As a Finnish person its so strange when they talk about sauna and having money to have one or go there, im poor broke but we have saunas here everywhere and i go to one several times a week, the little payment that it costs 5e for month 2 times per week is included in the rent and if i dont want to pay that i just call some of my frends and go to sauna there, and cold plunges is like you drill a hole in ice and thats costs nothing, is tough work tough. Also wery strange when Rogan says that he doesnt enjoy being in sauna, its the best place in the world.

No, but it's like $8/lb for Coho salmon at Aldi, which for me is 3-4 meals worth. 3 lb bag of frozen vegetables is $2. 2 lb bag of brown rice is $2.
I think Joe is someone that is always asking questions and looking to find better answers then the ones we were given by the older generation. Louis on the other hand, is a cynic. Sure Joe goes hard into his hobbies and he's been doing it for years so what he's doing is immediately unattainable for many. But that doesn't mean it's unrealistic or one shouldn't try to better their life

I used to love staying at a hotel as a kid. and going from the Sauna or Hot tub, straight into the cool Pool. It would feel amazing. I'd go back and forth.
I downloaded Spotify just to listen to this episode and I really recommend hearing all of it, its sooo good. They go on forever with no lulls and no forced change of subject because its getting stale or whatever its just great and really engaging, they have so much in common. My favorite part was when they were talking about being a comic in the 90s in new york and how free they felt.

I hit the gym almost everyday when I get off work but I do have to take some days off . It definitely helps me from getting depressed. My diet though isn't great and I need to do better.
You definitely don't need to be above the food chain to get into cold plunges and saunas.... some people live paycheck to paycheck just to pay for their gym memberships. It's literally in the same realm.
You can buy a cold plunge for 120$ online (not one that stays cold obviously but it's doable)
And you can go to a gym that has a sauna. These are still REALLY affordable things, you just need to have the desire to better yourself in any way possible, which most people don't do.

Thank God Louis is back.
Joe Rogan lives in a bubble. He never has people call him out on anything to his face. Especially, all those mediocre comedians that most people outside the world of comedy would never have heard of if it wasn't for Rogan having the most popular podcast on the planet.
Not to mention guys like Lex Fridman, Huberman, Jordan Peterson, etc. Nobody would have heard of these guys too if it weren't for Rogan.. These people owe their careers to Rogan.
Louis CK doesn't give a $#IT because he doesn't need Rogan for his career. He doesn't even need Netflix or even anyone to produce or distribute his movies or his comedy, he does it himself off his own website! Respect!

I love Louis CK's reply to Rogan having his ego bruised about an actual "regular Joe's" comment on saunas. Yes it is healthier to do certain things, but it's also inconvenient and expensive if your life is already filled with other challenges. We can work harder and compete against each other to achieve such material things, but like should it be that hard? Just take a cold shower or work up a sweat and deep inhale steam. 😂
Joe high key right and Louis is coping by means of the lowest common denominator. While most people don’t have the money to buy a cold plunge or a sauna, most people have access to hot water and a closed bathroom door or access to a cold bathtub and a bag of ice. It’s all cops to protect his ego about his inability to be healthy. He is right about his points that he makes but I believe he is missing the larger ideology of a healthy indulgent free living. Think for yourselves people, Joe didn’t create the lifestyle, he adopted it.

Louis CK is just smart enough to rationalize his decision and lack of discipline to completely lose control of his health. Joe does go to far, with all the things that need prescriptions, exotic forms of recovery and these ridiculous diet. You can find the middle ground between these two: get your heart rate up at least 150 minutes a week(speed walking my dog does it), resistance train full body 3x a week (squat, upper body push,upper body pull), buy your food around the edge of supermarket (real food), sleep 8 hours a night. Don’t need to be insane like Joe and spend 6 figures on your body; but don’t be like Louis and completely let your self go, so you feel bad around people that do care and you can rationalize “bursting their bubble”.

I’m with Joe here, cold plunges don’t have to be expensive and in a world filled with consumerism, screens and addiction, taking a cold shower or plunge can make you feel great and that doesn’t have to be put into the context of a political bubble of any sort. These tools are accessible to most people and in Scandinavia their whole culture revolves around these practices. Saying it’s ‘not reality’ makes no sense. We should not ridicule people for improving their mental and physical health

One of the easiest thing you can do for maintaining mental health is meditation. And all that is is exercising focus. Whether it be on prayer or mantra or even an image in your head. If you can distract yourself from idle thinking a little bit, that could be very beneficial. It's also free

Everyone is hating on Rogan cuz he talks about cold plunges and sitting in the sauna? Lol he’s taking care of his body. He can afford all of it he’s worked hard for it. I’m nobody with lots of money but I have time in my life to get those things in. What’s the big deal?
DIY NIR sauna and DIY cold plunges are possible for under $200 if you are creative. Cost is often dictated by pre conceived expectations. Think different.
Rogans become kinda annoying and dumb, like hes stuck in his ways. I find he talks wayy too much without saying much at all, like he’ll drag on about a subject which kinda goes without saying while interrupting a guest and stalling their point. And he repeats himself soo much, if you go to any jre episode with redban as a guest you’ll hear joe say the same things you’ve heard him say a MILLION times before. And I find he’s very skeptical at the wrong times and not skeptical enough when he should be. Theres a video of him addressing accusations of him being controlled opposition, and he gets a little ridiculous by saying (sarcastically): “oh yeah all this stuff from the beginning was all a part of the plan to become controlled opposition”. I think it’s likely that someone that works for intelligence has been in touch with him and has influenced the way he talks on his show, whether he knows it or not and how much he knows is the real question, but by the way he drags on the conversation when something controversial like a “conspiracy theory” about the current administration/world affairs comes up, makes me wonder why he’s so against the topic or against being open minded nowadays.
I think his feeling of the need to fill the air with anything so that theres no dead air on his show might have messed with his ability to have a more honest, organic conversation. He’s so afraid of appearing dumb by entertaining the more wild beliefs of his guests. And he’s always trying to find his “take” on things instead of just letting things flow the way the guest makes it.
Theres a part where joe gets interrupted by louis and he sniffs his nose in a way that tells that his ego is getting hurt a bit. Louis ck is the best comedian ever so joe should be able to put his ego aside and shut-up and let him talk about what he wants. So crazy to me that they’re both 55 years old, and that louis actually respects him as a comedian.
In his recent podcast episode with sam and colby the ghost hunters, joe says that stress induced back pain only occurs for crazy people, which is such bs. I’m becoming convinced that joe has brain damage or is just getting really old and set in his ways. I thought the mushrooms would help with this kinda stuff but apparently not.
I disagree because a nice cold bath in a stream is EXACTLY what our ancestors did. So its not a luxury its part of how our life should be lived, thats why people like doing it. It makes them feel like they are SUPPOSED to, not how this unnatural modern world forces you to feel

Joe believes eating herds of Elk and doin pure loads of kick boxing, smoking cigars and drinking whiskey is fine for you. However, he never talks about meat and carcinogens and how that plus stress is by FAR the biggest contributers to cancers and other serious illnesses to end lives short. Turtles have been knows to live 150 years, they rarely do marathons. Humming birds to MAD excercise but die very quickly. That to me is disappointing. Sleep 5 x 90 min REM counts consistently. Eat LOADS of iron based greens (spinach, sprouts, garden peas, seaweed). Raw fish, oat milk not animal milk (some fruit not too much sachrine - banana and orange every day) and drink 6 pints of water every day consistently. Lets see who lives longer.
Something not many people consider as well is that we live in a very different time than our late ancestors. Not defending any side but in a lot of instances, modern problems require modern solutions.

Life is about experiences, when your cold you appreciate a hot drink, when your hot you appreciate a cold drink, same goes for living healthy vs not.
The grass is always greener on the other side, so the best way to live life is to keep jumping the fence.
In general, it seems like I feel better from that dry thing Louis is talking about when I eat good fats like avocados. Also, flour in moderation seems to be pretty great if it's from Italy. We got flour from Italy online really cheap and make pizza dough or bread (We just use a machine.). Or just get pasta from Italy which is cheap at Walmart. I little goes a long way. If I eat pizza from here I have to go crazy too. The gluten is weird and unsatisfying. I'm pretty poor, but home made bread with olive oil soaked in herbs will get you through cravings pretty quick. I guess you can tell that I hate willpower and only want hacks to get through life!
My GF took me to one in trois riviere. I thought I'd have to go through it for her. Twenty minutes in and I totally got it.
Everything Rogan does to accumulate wealth is based on other people seeking escapes from there own lives. People choose to listen to him having conversations with others, they choose to listen to him try and be funny, they choose to watch other people fight......If everyone was content and able to be satisfied with there own lives, own goals and aspirations, they wouldn't waste there time watching others do it.
Being in awe of celebs is something ive never understood. The few times ive seen some in public it didnt do anything to me. Just said oh i recognize that celeb and moved on about my business.

The irony is they are (intentionally or unintentionally) recreating primitive conditions with the cold plunge. Our ancestors used to bathe in frigid streams and lakes and seas daily. Its our modern world which has become so unnatural. Thats the point Joe should have hit back with, he missed it.
