27:00 HEALTH WARNING ... there is a Bahlsen factory in Berlin, where you could buy that stuff/all the Bahlsen products at a quarter of the price (in nondescript white bags). It is the "Bruch", the stuff that got "slightly smashed" in the production line. Getting there is a bit hard for a tourist though, so ... come to Berlin at your own risk!
One bit of the "city Autobahn" passes that factory and you can SMELL it ... sometimes.

Fun fact: Germans actually looove their paprika flavoured chips. It might not be everyones favourite, but it is the most predominant flavour here and also considered the "original" type of chips 😄 when I first heard people from other countries mention they've never tried or even heard of those, I was so surprised! Actually americans got the peperoni term wrong. The sausage is called peperoni salami, but americans shorten it by cutting of the important part (salami), while the chili-like vegetables are called peperoni. (peppers means eighter bell peppers (which are kinda related), or the spice pepper). Thats why almost all other countries call the tall, thin spicy vegetables peperoni. and the sausage spiced with peperoni (thats where the name comes from, duh) - peperoni salami. (and since peperoni and bell pepers are quite closely related the chips (peperoni & paprika (which is dried and grounded red bell peppers) tasted similar.

Schogetten are indeed very popular. Middle of the range, price wise. I think many people love that they are these little separate nibbles :). Also interesting to note that there are discount versions of many popular snacks. Some of them you tried in this video. In many cases, you have the "original", and then there are "knock offs", usually from discounter's own brands. People then fundamentally disagree on whether there is an actual difference in taste/quality, or if you're really just paying more for the brand name. In my experience, it very much depends :D

    Oh my dear ladies,
how nice that you're trying some of our sweets again.
    As always: well done.
We don't have a bag of NicNacs without having to search for at least one nut on the floor. 🤣
If you ever get your hands on them - I really, really like the Snickers Creamy Peanut Butter.
This paprika flavor in chips is actually a typical German thing, but every non-German I've met who tried these chips said afterwards that they tasted damn good and that they didn't know why they didn't have them in their home country.
Oh, by the way, a pepper is a little different here than it is for you.
And pepper also means something different than it does for you.
As I've already mentioned, for me the "Ohne Gleichen" are really outstanding! Simply without equal.
But I'm a little biased, because the brands "Bahlsen" and "Lorenz" originated in my home town of Hanover.
In Germany we call the hits "Keks" - a word coined by the founder of Bahlsen, Hermann Bahlsen.
His early advertising slogan (1898) was "What does humanity eat on the go? Leibniz Cakes, of course." In German it rhymes 😇.
But since Germans hardly knew any English at the time, they always pronounced it wrong and it no longer rhymed. So he used the word phonetically - Keks.
"Kalter Hund" (lit. cold dog) is not just LIKE a mini cake, it is a (mini) cake. It consists of butter biscuits and cocoa cream.
Natasha, your pronunciation of "Gut und Günstig" was perfect 👍👏.
As far as the best chocolate goes, we have so much choice here of really excellent quality that there isn't really one best for everyone. Personally, I really like the Lindt brand of chocolate - they're Swiss, by the way :-).
Love and peace from Hannover, Germany.

The recipe for Kalter Hund originated in the 1920s in Germany. It became especially popular during the post-war period when ingredients were scarce, and simple, no-bake desserts were preferred.

All the things are really popular in Germany, the beer is one of the famous ones. We don't call them cookies or biskuits, in Germany thats all a Keks.
The Cake thing you had is kalter Hund, cold dog in english. It is from eastern Germany and should be a cheep version of a choclade Cake, kids loved it when the Grandma make them.
Shogetten is actually not that popular here in Germany, the last years the company startet to make the fançy flavous and get more popular, but Milka, Lindt and Ritter Sport are just the really popular brands.

    • @m.h.6470

Kalter Hund is definitely NOT from eastern Germany. It is well known throughout Germany and even Switzerland. And several Scandinavian countries (Norway, Denmark) as well as Mediterranean countries (Italy, Greece) have very similar cakes.
So it is very likely, that the original source of the cake predates modern Germany.

    Hey,
so Bitburger is one of the most popular Beers in Germany.
The Nic Nacs are also very popular. I like the normal NicNacs better than the Double Crunch.
Never heard of the HitCookies before.
Corny is also one of the Most Popular CerealBars in Germany. The BananaOnes are the best i think.
The Crunchy Break are the inexpensive alternative to the Hanuta but they are as good as the Original i think. But Hanuta is more poular then this.
Chipsfrisch is a very popular Brand to. I think the Paprika Ones are more eaten, then the Peperoni because most like PaprikaChips. As far as i know.
Cant see the Brand of the ChocOle Sticks but i think it is DeBeukelear? Whatever, these Sticks are fine for Party-Fingerfood. Thats why you can open them like this and just put it on the Table.
Fritt is also very very popular. There are many Flavours and all of them are great.
Schogetten are not the most popular Chocolate but it is on Top of the List. Think Milka is the Number One.
Chips from Lorenz are very popular too. I Like FunnyFrisch more.
Bahlsen - best Cookies of the World for me. They are doing many different kinds of Cookies. Think if you test it all you need Days eat them.
Kalter Hund normally is a big Cake here in Germany. Someone thaught why dont put it in Bars. So there it is. Never eat them but cant be bad i suppose.
Also never eat the Gut und Günstig Cookies. Gut und Günstig is like a Low Budget Brand. I think you can buy ANYTHING from Gut und Günstig. Not just Food. Dont know anything that you cant buy from Gut und Günstig. The Name means Good and Cheap i think.
Schogetten again, there are soooo many different Flavours. Think i like the normal Edel-Alpenvollmilch flavour most.
Dont know if you have things like Salzstangen in Amerika. These are popular too. Also the MilkyWay, KitKat and Bounty Bary (cant imagine that they dont exist in america, these are most popular). Dont know if you tried Lakritze. They are very popular in Germany to BUT (!) you either hate it or you love it. There is nothing in between. Lakritze is a 1 or a 10 for the people. I think it is a 0 but you have to try i guess.
Sorry for some Translation Mistakes. I tried my best^^ Greetings from Germany

To the question about buiscuit or cookie, there is actually a really funny story about anglisism in Germany. The word we use is "Keks". But its origin is a Bahlsen addvertiment from the early 20th century were they market their cookies with the english word Cakes. Before then the words used was either Plätzchen (more for chistmas cookies) or Hartgebäck (hard baked goods), the way shorter word Cakes stuck around and was then germanised into the word Keks. So from an english perspective we call out cookies cakes.

Everytime i see those anywhere, i think to myself: Yeah, now i want those 🤣 Btw. they also exsists as "BBQ Nic Nac" and "Spicey Nic Nac"... i think it were those Spicey ones that my father said the burn 2 times... the first when you eat them, the second time... Well, you know. Like you explained with the Chips 🤣

I can't remember a children's birthday party where there wasn't a Kalte Hundeschnautze. Kalter Hund = cold dog, Kalte Hundeschnautze = cold dog snout.
