I bet someone with no fancy hacking whatsoever could break your lock with a wave rake (a type of basic, low-skill lockpicking attack). Or a brick, for that matter, although I suppose smart locks don't solve that problem. (this is not a defense of smart locks, they can be bypassed just as easily)

The fact that all the engineer had to do is generate a pair of private and public RSA keys to save his company an unimaginable amount of money in lawsuits is actually mind blowing - but the companies only care when it's too late.. 2022.

How long was this ago? 10 years? Their new stuff doesnt let you fix anything, as it just logs even the smallest fault and bricks itself until it is reset by a "approved" mechanic with the right software. Its gotten far far worse over the last couple years.

That car one is mind blowing, like how can you be so careless working on a cars security to understand what public/private keys are enough to search up a tutorial on them but not enough to realize the only thing that makes them secure is obscurity by length and unknowness
That's because when interviewing, companies hire people who can create a binary tree, or complete an algorithm problem, not people who are actually skilled at programming.
If companies hired people based on their portfolio and their skills, this would never happen, but companies are too lazy to actually check if the person they're hiring is fit for the job. Clearly the person they hired could solve their pointless interview questions that don't at all pertain to the job, but they couldn't figure out the basic concept of encryption.

Like I recently applied for a back end position and one of the questions was on flex-box layouts. I was baffled cause the position I was applying for had absolutely nothing to do with UI or UX or front-end development whatsoever, and alot of the questions where based on that

That key copy auto hack was pretty egregious. I now wonder how much vehicle code is copy pasted from coding tutorials.
Hyundai is probably a good place to start digging. That copy/paste wasn't caught by any higher up in a code review, so there's a good chance that our specialist did a bunch of other copy/paste jobs, since.
I was a junior dev at a car dealer ship and legally they are considered financial institutions so there are lots of extra laws that go into that. I seen literally 10s of thousands of lines of code that was just copy and pasted nonsense from stack overflow all barely stitched together
This is why we were warned to not buy no poop from the poop store.

in order to be kosher it would have to be: humanely obtained, able to be safely consumed, and intended for human consumption. And THEN other rules apply based off the animal that a product came from. By definition, it can't be kosher.

I would rather have a way for me to run custom software on my radio (infotaiment system) then for it to become a brick for whatever obscure reason when the manufacterer decides to stop supporting it
Also a lot of times the infotaiment system doesnt provide me with what I need (rds pi code, signal strength meter, manual radio bandwitch control, etc) so its a great idea to be able add that
