- In this video I take a look at how to mod your official LEGO 2020 AAT set into a more accurate replica of the vehicle it's attempting to portray! The set is really nice as a toy, definitely a well put together lego build, and I wanted to see if I could keep the same basic design and push it into the realm of something more like what I would design for my own collection.

Sure they could have dropped it 5$ but for a set like this without any major discrepancies or design sins isn't that bad for me.
It would probably be like 60 bucks and they would thrown in another battle droid and called it a day
And hopping that if it was the case, we could get more Tano Troopers in this set!
I just got it last week (1/14/22) at a local Walmart on rollback for 32$
It looks more like a moc and not a modified version
Yeah - it shares about 60% of the original design :) perhaps a redesign is a better way to think of it?
@@2bricks lol ya but I like it I have 3 of the sets and I’m gonna try to make a bigger version of it more accurate to the show and not like this piece of junk LEGO threw together and said: this is a set for kids no adults play with it so it doesn’t have to look like the show... and I’m mad at how unrealistic it is to the show or movie!!!!😡

The gap between the base and the body has the exact height of one plate plus one tile if I'm not mistanken, so that's easily fixed.
I really like the feature you introduced to lock the angled cylinders in place.

Thanks for the ideas, you can actually fit 2 battle droids in the back if you have a couple of spare 2x4 tiles, it's really easy just snap 1 tile onto the floor, then use the 2nd tile as a overhead rack to hold the droids, the droids need to be facing opposite directions looking towards the side to fit them in in a 2x4 space together but they will fit, it looks really clean the way they slide out together hanging off the tile ready to stand

@@2bricks do you have the 20th anniversary slave one and have you modified it ..I wanna know if the interior can be better ...I've just added a yoke to the interior and covered up the hole in the back
I did get that set but it’s long since been dismantled and turned into MOCs :) I wasn’t *too* thrilled with that set, I liked it ok but the proportions were so cartoony I just wasn’t very inspired to mod it

This is probably one of the best designs for this tank ice seem so far. Much appreciated for the instructions, but you should charge for them just a little bit.

@@2bricks yep! I have a question, I’m completely unfamiliar with rebrickable. Could you describe how to view just the parts needed to modify it?
Yes! On the rebrickable page for the mod there is a part at the bottom with a picture of the official set, and it says “this moc is a modification of the following:” and then next to it “compare moc 53017 to 72583-1” that link will take you to a page where you can see alllll kinds of stats about my model, the original, which parts are unique to my one vs the set etc etc. in the column where it lists the parts unique to my set there is an “export parts” button. Choose “bricklink xml” and it will give you a file you can save and then upload to bricklink and get exactly the parts you need!

Looks amazing can't believe you can put in the work of one person and come up with an amazing high quality design. Where as the lego employees can get away with being lazy and putting out clearly sub par products. Please keep up that awesome work always

I wasn’t thinking about it! I did my custom AT-RT back when they announced the set and I’m not super motivated to do a reskin of it. I’m always thinking about the next thing I want to build!!

Fascinating. I like the base a lot. I’m curious that you didn’t try narrowing the top turret at all. Seems to me that it is way too wide compared to the “neck”. I was able to take out a stud width on each side and still keep the hole for the droid in there too. But my solution around the hinge of the main gun isn’t as nice as yours, so I think I’ll be changing that. As always, love to see that 2Bricks thinking!
Yeah it might be my nostalgia goggles for the 1999 version but the top turret always felt pretty wide to me, but looking at the source material it probably should be narrowed a bit! Maybe you can do a best of both scenario!
@@2bricks I think that's what I'll try. I agree, they definitely changed the shaping a bit from Phantom Menace to Clone Wars. But since I like Clone Wars better, I'll probably lean that way.
Gotta say, now having built this, it's even better than watching the video of it...so different having it in hand!
I did make a few changes, which I think makes it look just a bit cleaner. I used two 1x2 cheese slops on either side of the front hatch, and it just makes a cleaner front slope between the turret and the base. I also added some more tiles around the base of the neck to fill in those gaps you mentioned. And putting a 2x4 plate across the bottom below the turret allows the back hatch to stop against it and make that slope match the two blue piston builds on either side of the neck. Lastly, I definitely prefer the turret width narrower by 2 studs. Winds up the same total width from one piston to the other, but it's still wider than most of the neck, and just seems to balance out better overall.
But serious thank you for this build, it's easily the head of the class for AAT's in my opinion! Cheers!

I did, yeah! Both the trade federation version and the CIS version which you can see in my video “clone wars expansion! - LEGO Star Wars fleet series #27” at the 1:15 mark :)

Great moc! i am definitely doing this. I checked out the moc on rebrickable and i have a question. What do you use to make your instructions? Is it a software you have to download? also, i do have a mac so idk if it is mac compatible.

Funny, I went the other way, and instead of making everything bigger, I just made the head smaller. Yours is infinitely more accurate though, just don't have enough pieces.

I only say this because it played a big role in rebels but you should make a rebels shpryna corvette it’s the same minus and engine and a slight color change
How did you take the part in the back out to add another droid?
I just removed that large black window piece that sits right in the middle of the design and doesn’t really add much stability wise!

i have a question. so on the link it says 359 total pieces used. is that on top of the 286 pieces? or 645 total pieces?
No that’s 359 total - you can compare the 2 sets, see the unique pieces in my version etc on the rebrickable page by scrolling down and clicking on the image of the official set where it says something like “compare with set”.
So i would need to just buy the set and then the 73 pieces from either of the two websites listed?
I believe so yes! I’d have to double check the parts count listed but that is the idea!
So yes, I just double checked and you are correct - the set plus those 77 additional pieces and you’re good to go!

It is a lot less smooth witch takes away from the much needed aesthetic, hence the original does a much better job and is just as accurate as your 'remake' so to speak

Thanks! though I don’t think that’s the case, I just think they’re shifting over to more toyish designs rather than accurate models. I personally don’t like that shift but I’m sure I’m not the target audience either lol
